Caron Butler talks about his Mountain Dew addiction

To try and give this up was crazy for me! I was going through withdrawals. I was in the bed sweating. My wife would turn over in the bed and ask "Are you OK?" Honestly, those first two weeks without The Dew [were] the roughest two weeks of my life. I'm talking headaches, sweats and everything. Before that I drank at least six 12-ounce Mountain Dews a day.

Wouldn't you have cramps or something drinking that stuff that much and playing something like Basketball??????? :o

Sounds funny, but after pumping all that caffeine and sugar into his body, I have no doubt he was hooked. Stuff is just terrible for you. Good thing he's an elite athlete or he'd be pushing 300 lbs.

It's not fair that these guys (Butler, Odom, Ochocinco) can eat all the **** food they want all day every day and still be in peak physical condition, whereas I eat ONE bucket of cookie dough and gain five pounds and have to sleep for 4 days.

Funny, I had a two liter per day addition to the green sugar for years and gave it up cold turkey with no problem. Of course, I did the same thing with another type of white powder (though I wasn't on that one for nearly as long). Guess I must have a pretty strong will, though all the credit must really go to my faith in scientology. :)

Keep your hands off my smokes though, a guy needs at least one vice (women don't count since they're everyone's weakness).

Not to mention the fact they don't have that pesky menstrual cycle you've been putting up with for so long.

He says that about quitting MOUNTAIN FREAKEN DEW

Dude and you wonder why he misses games with injury. Caron I love you, I miss you but that quote comes accross like Caron is the weakest little sissy in the history of the NBA.

Please tell me that is a fake quote or that Mountain Dew is new slang for crack or something. It sounds like a crack addiction. Many of us have quit smoking, drinking, coffe & soda maybe even drugs or steroids and I don't think its as tough as Mountain FREAKEN Dew for Caron

No, but does it lower the amount of people you have the chance to impregnate.

It would be very similar to quitting coffee. He basically had a caffeine addiction.

I'd like to know more about Caron's experience.

I'm a Mountain dew addict, it's basically the only soda I drink but I typically go through about a 24 pack in a month. I try to pace myself but it takes work to skip it for more than a day or stop at one 12oz can. I could easily drink 3-4 cans a day and think nothing of it.

When I used to eat fast food regularly, I gravitated towards places like Taco Bell or KFC that had Dew on tap. I'd get the 44 oz'er and always have at least one refill. That or I'd go to 7-11 for the 64oz Big Gulp. For a while I'd even drink it in the morning and muse about the fact it contains orange juice.

I am naturally lean and very active physically so I've never had to actually worry about what I eat/drink/calories. I've been able to cut back my intake but I know the Dew is still the weak link in my now otherwise fairly healthy diet.

I've been there. Up until about 5 years ago, I was drinking 4-5 cans/bottles a day. It was Coke, and then Mountain Dew. I finally gave it up when I was having heart palpitations from all of the caffeine, and I thought I was having a heart attack! Scared the hell out of me, but that's what I needed. I drink an iced coffee or two a day now, but that's it. Soda is a rare treat once in a blue moon now. I don't even really like the taste of it anymore.

I don't understand how athletes can have these fast food addictions though, even if they are in supreme shape and burn it off like it's nothing, that crap builds up (especially the amount he's talking) and it's gotta make you sluggish. It's kind of unprofessional imo , even if they're really good, they would all see improvements if they were healthier and I think it's kind of their duty to do so since they are pro athletes. Their bodies is a big reason for those checks with all those 0's...
