The 2009 World Series will be the 105th edition of Major League Baseball's championship series. The best-of-seven playoff will be played between the Philadelphia Phillies, champions of the National League, and the New York Yankees, champions of the American League. The Phillies are seeking to repeat as World Series champions.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

How awesome would it be to see old friend Petey back at Yankee Stadium for Game 2?

lee has owned us for a while, but with CC going, that game will be decided by the pen

the key is pedro, we have to tee off him, hes sly, but his stuff is nowhere what it used to be

hamels? just have to work him, he has struggled so we need to be patient with him

blanton? that guy doesnt have really plus stuff, again, should be able to get to him

overall? great matchup and I would start CC in games 1, 4, 7 and gaudin in 5

Throwing Gaudin in game 5 (in philly might I add) is pretty much throwing a game away. The guy has thrown 1 inning in about 3 weeks, and it will be nearly 4 weeks by the time game 5/6 come around.

Gotta go with the same staff as last series. Drop Cervelli, Guzman. Add Bruney, Hinske.

what are your guys thougts on this series, i think its hard to gauge both sides: yanks have better pitching than LAD, so phi batters will have to adjust, and phi have better O than either Min or LAA, so our pitchers will have to adjust

seems like a tough one to call?

I don't think the Phillies have faced a tough opponent yet. We just beat an extremely tough Angels team but we haven't faced an offense as good as theirs.
- Starting pitching is kind of even: Hamels, Lee and Pero VS CC, AJ and Pettite
- Both teams can hit the ball (Howard and A-rod are both on fire)
- But I believe we have a better bullpen
So if we can keep the games close till the late innings and get their starters pitch counts up (make them use their bullpen), we should be able to win.

They have the worst bullpen of any teams we've faced so far. Lidge doesn't scare me one bit and is due for a beating. We all know what this team does to bad bullpens.

We're one of the most patient teams in the Majors, even if Lee pitches a gem I doubt he passes the 7th, so we'll always have a shot if the game is close.

pedro in game 2 :-?

key in the series for us is to work the count, get their SP out ASAP and make it a game of the pens

I'll still take ours over the Phillies 10/10 times though, regardless of whether our pen is pitching up to potential or not.
