Jeff Teague?

Post#1 » by kdizzle » Tue Oct 27, 2009 2:06 pm

Just wanted to get an idea of how teague has preformed in the preseason and what the internal chatter is on this guy?

Will he get a decent amount of minutes this yr? Is he more of a scorer or passer?

I know bibby and crawford are in front of him depth wise, but would appreciate some insight.

Also, how has Crawford been playing?

Thanks!

Everyone reads but nobody responds??? You have been a member since 2003??? Anyway I thought I would suggest browsing our fine forum before you post these type of questions.

There are several threads on the Atlanta board that speak of both Teague and Crawford, reading these will answer your questions.

Teague was a bright spot for most of pre-season. Teague had a rough game during the final preseason game, going 0 for 15 from the floor. His quickness is amazing and he can get to the rim in the blink of an eye. Teague's jumpshot hasn't come around yet but I think it will be hard to keep him off the court. Crawford was dinged up most of preseason so it was hard to get a feel for him. Crawford struggled in the final preseason game also but everyone in a Hawks uniform struggled in that game. Crawford will score, no doubt about it. Can Crawford become a better defender is the question.

Can Crawford become a better defender is the question.

Are there really people thinking that Crawford is going to turn into a solid defender?

Defense is probably AT LEAST 70-75% EFFORT, so it is possible for him to become solid defensively...He doesn't need to be a stopper...

Wing defense is probably 60% effort, 20% athleticism, and 20% innate ability/anticipation.
Post defense is around 20% effort, 40% athleticism (or size) and 40% innate ability/anticipation.

Jamal Crawford has pretty good athleticism, maybe an 85 or so. He doesn't try especially hard, but he doesn't not give a damn either like Sheed when he's lazy, so he gets a 50. I think he has terrible ability and anticipation other than playing the passing lanes and disrupting handling, so he gets a 35 for that.

(50 * .6) + (85 * .2) + (35 * .2) = 54, which is quite a bit below average.

I actually like this breakdown, I should save it for later.

I am glad i didn't eat right before the Orlando game because watching Teague shoot from the perimeter made me dry heave. If i had eaten before the game things could have been messy.

I agree with this. You can't play for Woodson unless you show effort on defense. Craw's length and size alone will cause some problems if he just plays hard on that side of the ball.

Good defense also takes muscle and a high pain threshold. Crawford is lacking in those 2. I think he wants to play good defense -- he just gets beat up whenever he tries.

gotta admit, Teague didnt have the "Marvin Williams" form on his jump shot but if it falls its 2. Lets give the rook until the All-Star break to see what he can contribute.
