Again, sorry if this should be in another thread, but its a new development and would probably get lost on Page 5 of one of the older ones.

I don`t want to give Rondo too much. Our half court offense doesn`t look good when he is in the game...opposing teams double team off of Rondo every time...him not being able to hit the jumpshot is a huge problem...

I'll go on record and say that Rondo gets extended before the deadline expires.

I feel like the agent wanting Rondo to be paid as one of the top 5 highest paid point guards in the league is too much. Am I crazy for not thinking Rondo is a top-5 point guard in the NBA?

no.... but I dont think he is that far off. I'd put Paul,Rose,Williams,Parker, and Billups ahead of him.

i think $10 mil per gets it done. it's what he's worth, gives him security, and gives us some flexibility going forward.

hopefully this happens.

Don't see that AT ALL.

What I saw is an offense that didn't run very well with him out of the game.

The jumper problem is OVERRATED. Rondo can dominate a game without making a shot. 8 points, 10 assists, 3 steals, 6 rebounds, 2 turnovers. Not too shabby. Don't forget that he shut down Mo Williams for most of the night.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

No, at least not currently. However, it isn't crazy at all for the agent to argue that he will be a top 5 point guard in the near future, as a lot of NBA "experts" are on record predicting he will be an all-star in the next year or two. Since this next contract will basically set in stone his salary until the age of 29, it isn't unreasonable for the agent to argue that his contract should take into account an expected improvement in play over the next six years.

you all know I'm rondo's pimp but I'm a team player pimp.
The offense didn't look as good with him out of the game like this guy said

I hope he just takes the offer. Its its 55 for 5 that is a good deal. If it were me Id want the security. Sure hes already made a few mil but after taxes and fees it really isn't THAT much. The stroke of a pen right now would make him and his family set for life.

None of this matters anymore. Ainge offered him 9 a year his agent can say all he wants in the end if Ainge says 10 how can Rondo leave it on the table after saying what he said in the spring. Money is money and all that but the kid could be an institution with little kids wearing his jerseys and mama's naming their babies after him. Work in an option if it is that much of a concern he will outplay his deal he is going to be a FA again at 28 if he is really worried about being underpaid. 50 mil is a lot of money.

He signs the deal and I will give him a kick ass BBQ out in Medfield. All the trimmings for real.

I think he should sign. I'm not convinced that any team is going to offer him a max offer sheet, as they'd know the Celtics would just match. GM's just don't play games like that as they know these things can come back and haunt them, ask Glen Davis. Rondo doesn't have a heck of a lot of leverage at this point in his career, and should be in the position of having another big contract down the road.

The guy is an athlete, he's a freak injury away from taking an enormous hit on contract if he doesn't sign now. $50 mil sets you easily up for life assuming you don't pull a Walker.

IMO, this gets done this week.

I hope they come to an agreement on an extension so it won't be a distraction this season. Look how much people are talking about the extension this week. Get it done so everyone can move on to Banner 18. :D

I'm very disappointed. I expected Wolves to be all over this board about how Ainge now he's so much more valuable than $9 Million a year......very dissappointed.

For a guy who wouldn't get off Rondo's johnson before the season started....he's nowhere to be found right now.

Now it is starting to sound like we should do it whether he signs or not.

After watching Mo Williams I appreciate Rondo more and more. Besides shooting the ball well Mo does almost nothing to facilitate that offense.

Why would he? They let Lebron facilitate it. <g>

I would be fine going up to 5/$55M to resign Rondo. I love what he does for this team and if it means we lock him up for the duration of the time we have the Big 3, or this championship window, I'm willing to pay him a little more than he's probably actually worth ($9M or so).
