Who could win 6th Man Of The Year if not Rasheed?

Rasheed Wallace is still my leading candidate to win the Sixth Man Of The Year honor. I base this opinion on the presumptions that Perkins will inevitably get injured (I hope I'm wrong), and I expect Rivers to play Wallace a lot in the fourth quarter of games.

Others who I believe are legitimate candidates... In some cases, they could become a starter if someone gets injured or is traded.

Kirk Hinrich

Ben Gordon

If Perk gets hurt for a chunk of the year and Sheed steps into the starting lineup, wouldn't that disqualify him for 6th man?

Sheed has a very solid chance, I'd say he's right there with Terry, Ginobili, and Barbosa, giving each of the four about an equal chance.

Is Manu definitely coming off the bench this year? I thought he was starting again. Terry, Odom and Sheed sound like he cream of the crop to me.

What does that have to do with anything? Roger Mason Jr didn't get a sixth man of the year vote last season.

EDIT: Scratch that, completely missed that he got three, from three very dumb members of the media that probably don't know the difference between the bench and starting. Most aren't that dumb and if Sheed starts for any major period of time, most will vote for him or be less inclined to vote for him.

I dont consider Terry as a bench player. A bench player doesnt play 33 min a game. Its a toss up between Sheed, Manu and hopefully Lamar.

Um, that award was pretty much invented for the Celtics, in that the concept was pretty much invented by the Celtics.

Odom, Sheed is 35 and his body is closer to 40, cuz he doesn't take care of it. Sheed makes what 3 3's last night and all the experts think this is the norm? He's is as inconstistant as they come, but he's a heck of a bball player and you'd want him on your side for sure. Many are saying Daniels is a more important signing to the C's.

It's odd though Sheeds been in the league forever, but people think he's Dirk all the sudden, this is one out of ever 20 games he has a shooting night like that.

Terry's the front-runner... But my sleeper choice is Hinrich.

If Gordon stays off the bench in detroit he'd probably be a solid pick, he should still be up around 20 points most games

I don't see Sheed in the running. He has the talent but not the will to go out and try to rack up "numbers" at this point in his career he just wants to win. If the C's are cruising -he will cruise. He isn't trying to pad his numbers like some young guys..

I know that, but the anti-Celtics bias, especially now that we're good again, is unreal... 8-)

Rasheed Wallace can't compete with the 30+ minutes a game that Terry gets. But he can fill up a stat line and his statistics should remain steady all season barring a serious injury.

Sheed will definatley not with 6th man of the year award. His body is too old, i watched the cavs game and man he made a lot of mistakes. on top of that he airballe dsome pretty good looks. Boston has a great team but i dont think sheed is their best bench player. In terms of who contributes to the team more you cant compare sheed to ginobli or terry or the other guys. sheed will be at best like 10-13 ppg. i think daniels was a better pickup for you guys then the sheed

I'm not one who'll judge a player based on one game, his first game of the regular season. Age has nothing to do with this. Because Walton was I believe thirty-four when he'd won it. It's about staying healthy and getting an opportunity to play. I expect R. Wallace to play a lot as long as he's healthy. He'll be another veteran Rivers trust.

Walton's satisfaction with capturing his second championship and winning the Sixth Man Award was immeasurable. In an article in the Boston Herald, McHale said of Walton: "You watch an old, old guy like that, with the most hammered body in sports, acting like a high school kid -- it's both funny and inspiring at the same time. Every game was a challenge, and he didn't let any of us forget that."

I mean it isn't as if I'm saying Rasheed will win it outright. I don't believe that... But he's my choice and I'm sticking to it. If not him, then I'm choosing Hinrich.
