The party is just beginning
Noah was referring to the infamous "altercation" with Ben Wallace, which resulted in a two-game suspension determined by his teammates.

"It was weird to me how I would turn on the TV and people would act like they knew what happened," Noah said. "But there was no media in there. It was just the team. I never knew who said anything but next thing you know it's on ESPN and all these reporters are calling my room telling me about the altercation between me and Ben Wallace. But that never happened. Did it upset me? Yeah, because I never had scrutiny like that with people saying things that weren't true."

Brown calls Wallace league's "most misunderstood"
Not long before Doc Rivers set out on what he’s now dubbed the “Begging Tour” that eventually lured Rasheed Wallace to Boston, he went to Larry Brown to get an opinion from a coach he respected and one who had also spent two years with Wallace in Detroit. Brown told Rivers two things. “I told him to get him,” Brown said, recalling the conversation after his Charlotte Bobcats shot around.

He also told Rivers. “If Kevin goes down like he did last year, and you have Rasheed Wallace, that’s a pretty good alternative.” Brown and Wallace were together in Detroit for two years, and in that time the Pistons won 108 games and an NBA title in 2004. Wallace had already been labeled a bad apple after eight seasons in Portland. The Blazers traded him to Atlanta in the middle of the 2003-2004 season. Wallace played just one game with the Hawks before the Pistons made a deal for him, and what Brown learned when Wallace arrived in Detroit, was that Wallace was that “He’s the most misunderstood guy in the league.” “He’s as good a teammate as you’ll have,” said Brown. “He’s as good a teammate as I’ve ever coached. Plus he’s a great player. He’s a great defender. He can make shots. He’s a great competitor. “I’ve really never met a player that played with him that didn’t love him. I really have met a coach that coached him that didn’t love him.”

In the short time that he was with Brown, Wallace picked up 33 of the 296 career technical fouls that have made him the league’s mascot of anger management. In that regard, Brown said Wallace is simply human. “He’s like a lot of us,” Brown said. “He’s a bad sport. But again, if he thinks the call is right, he doesn’t say anything. If he thinks it’s wrong he can’t help himself. And a lot of us can’t. Kevin [Garnett] gets upset. But they’re two of the greatest guys we have in our league. They care about winning. They care about the team. They respect the game.” In his first season with the Bobcats, Brown led them to a franchise-best 35 wins last season. He said he had interest in reuniting with Wallace in the offseason, but a team trying to build isn’t nearly as easy to sell as one that’s contending for a title. “I think Rasheed’s in a perfect situation,” Brown said. “He’s with a lot of great guys that have the same values he has. So I think it was a heck of an acquisition. We wanted him, but he wants to have a chance to win again, to win a championship. And I think he picked a team that has a legitimate shot of doing that.” While he was in Detroit, Wallace never averaged more than 15.1 points, and the year they won the title, he went from scoring 18 a night in Portland to 13.7 with Brown in Detroit. That quality wasn’t lost on Brown.

All-Star Granger practices, might play
All-Star forward Danny Granger participated in this morning's team shootaround, but the Pacers want to see how he responds before deciding whether he plays in the season opener tonight against the Atlanta Hawks.

Granger is dealing with a right bruised heel.

Swingman Dahntay Jones missed the shootaround with an upper respiratory infection. He is questionable. Reserve center Jeff Foster will play tonight after spending the past two days in Boston receiving treatment for an ailing back.

Rose to start Thursday's season opener
Derrick Rose will be in the starting lineup when the Bulls' season begins Thursday night.

A day after acknowledging that Rose would be healthy enough to play, Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro left no doubt when asked if his star point guard would be in the lineup for the regular-season opener against the San Antonio Spurs.

After missing three weeks because of an ankle tendon injury, Rose is ready to go. "I don't think anybody thought the injury would take as long [to heal] as it did, but it was kind of a different injury I guess you could say," Del Negro said after practice. "He feels better, and he's been practicing, so that's a good sign. He's still a little rusty. I thought he practiced pretty well [Tuesday], which was a good sign for us."

Utah Jazz: Korver has surgery on his ailing left knee
Jazz shooting guard Kyle Korver had the bone spur removed from his ailing left knee today in what general manager Kevin O'Connor described as "successful arthroscopic surgery" in New York.

No timeline on Korver's return was given, but O'Connor said the Jazz will have a better idea on Nov. 9. Utah plays in New York that day, and Korver will travel with the team to be reevaluated.

Korver will return to Utah to begin the rehabilitation process as soon as he feels well enough to travel. "On Nov. 9, I think we'll have a better feel," O'Connor said Wednesday at the Pepsi Center while the Jazz were going through shoot-around practice in preparation for tonight's season-opener.

Ben Gordon looking to claim NBA title with Detroit Pistons
Ben Gordon hopes to turn Detroit Pistons into NBA champs again following his big-money move from the Chicago Bulls. The London-born star, 26, signed for the Pistons from Chicago this summer on a five-year deal worth £34million.

And Gordon is set to make his competitive debut for the Pistons tomorrow in Detroit's opener away to Memphis as the NBA season officially starts today. Detroit last won the title in 2004 but Gordon is optimistic his new team can unseat the LA Lakers. "It was tough leaving after being in Chicago for so long but at the same time I knew I was coming to a great situation in Detroit," said Gordon. "The Pistons still have a few pieces from the championship team and with the addition of some new blood I think we'll be able to fit in well. "I want to get a team chemistry going and try to help the team win as many games as possible. "The goal here in Detroit i s always to win a championship so we're going to work hard to help get the Pistons back to being an elite team. "I look forward to working with the guys and winning some games."

Gordon was raised in New York and played for USA in the 2003 Pan-American Games. But he has vowed to only pull on a GB jersey in future and is penciled in to play for the hosts at London 2012. He was due to make his Great Britain debut under coach Chris Finch in September's EuroBasket, but opted to sit out the tournament to finalise his Pistons move. But he added: "I haven't made a commitment to when I'll play but I'll definitely be playing with Great Britain. "Hopefully it will be sooner than later. "I'll base the decision on what's going on in my life at that time, when I'm mentally ready to play."

Davis suspended
Glen Davis’ injury is costing him playing time — he’ll be out six to eight weeks after today’s surgery on his right thumb — and it will cost him money, as well.

According to director of basketball operations Danny Ainge, the Celtics have followed through on the threat to suspend Davis for getting in a fight with a former high school teammate.

“Yes, we’ll suspend Glen for the game tonight and tomorrow night,” Ainge said a short time ago. “And we’ll have further discussion on how long that suspension (will last). We’ll probably keep it more internal, but we will suspend him.”

Bell passes on wrist surgery
Charlotte Bobcats guard Raja Bell is skipping wrist surgery, at least for now, meaning he could play games in a week.

A Chicago hand specialist told Bell he wasn't taking an unreasonable risk by trying to rehabilitate a torn ligament with rest and treatment, rather than commit to corrective surgery that could cost him four months.

Bell said he can shoot without pain, but that passing is painful because it requires him to snap his left wrist. Bell anticipates defense to be difficult, since it requires him to use both arms to impede players he's guarding.

Thunder sign Thabo Sefolosha to extension
The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed guard Thabo Sefolosha to a multi-year contract extension, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed. We’ll post contract details tonight or tomorrow. “We are excited that we were able to reach an agreement that will keep Thabo a part of our core group moving forward,” said Presti. “Thabo represents many of the qualities that we look for in our players, great competitiveness, a team first mentality, and a strong work ethic. We believe Thabo’s best basketball is ahead of him, and his desire to remain a part of the Thunder family allowed for us to make this happen.”

Sefolosha averaged 8.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 31 minutes per game last season with the Thunder. Sefolosha, who joined the Thunder via trade from the Chicago Bulls on February 19, 2008, is currently in his fourth NBA season.

Sefolosha, drafted 13th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2006 NBA Draft, played five seasons in Europe prior to entering the NBA Draft. He started his professional career as a 17 year-old with Tege Riviera Basket of the Swiss domestic league in 2001. Sefolosha also spent three seasons with Chalon-Sur-Saone of the French Premier Pro League and one season with Angelico Biella of the Italian Serie A.

Spurs exercise George Hill option
The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have picked up the option for the 2010-11 season for guard George Hill.

In his rookie season Hill appeared in 77 games, averaging 5.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 16.5 minutes. As a starter he averaged 9.7 points, 3.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 27.9 minutes in seven games while filling in for the injured Tony Parker. During that stretch Hill posted his four highest scoring games of the season: scored 20 points in 29:28 minutes on 11/19 vs. Denver, had a career-high 23 points in 22:37 minutes on 11/21 vs. Utah, tallied 20 points in 28:36 minutes on 11/24 at Memphis and had 19 points – along with a career-best 11 rebounds – in 32:40 minutes on 11/26 vs. Chicago.

An early entry candidate in the 2008 NBA Draft, Hill was selected by the Spurs in the first round with the 26th overall pick out of IUPUI. He is the first player school history to be selected in an NBA Draft and appear in an NBA game.

Kyle Korver has left knee surgery
Utah Jazz guard/forward Kyle Korver underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor announced today. The procedure was performed Wednesday morning in New York City by Dr. David Altcheck, who reported that the surgery went “extremely well.” Korver will return to Salt Lake City to begin rehabilitation and will be re-evaluated by Dr. Altcheck in New York City on November 9.

Korver (6-7, 212, Creighton) appeared in only one preseason contest for the Jazz this season, scoring two points and picking up three rebounds in 14 minutes against Real Madrid on October 8. Appearing in 78 games (two starts) for the Jazz in 2008-09, Korver averaged 9.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 24 minutes per game. The six-year NBA veteran made a team-high 103 three-point field goals in 2008-09, shooting .386 from behind the arc. The guard/forward was also selected to participate in the 2009 USA Basketball Men’s National Team mini-camp this past summer.

Originally acquired by the Jazz from Philadelphia on December 29, 2007, Korver has appeared in 128 regular season games with the Jazz over the past two seasons, averaging 9.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in 23.0 minutes per game. Korver holds career averages of 10.2 points and 3.1 rebounds, while hitting .404 (837-2073) in 465 games (103 starts) with Philadelphia and Utah.

Detroit Pistons @ Memphis Grizzlies: Grizzlies fans will have to continue to wait to see Allen Iverson take the court, as he's still nursing a hamstring injury. The good news is Mike Conley is expected to play tonight. This game will be an interesting match-up, with two fairly similar teams going head-to-head. Charlie Villanueva and Zach Randolph can both put up glaring numbers without playing much defense; Rodney Stuckey and Conley are young point guards looking to prove themselves, and a healthy Iverson and Ben Gordon would be lethal sixth men (if Iverson really is willing to come off the bench). The Pistons are generally considered the better team, but Memphis certainly has the better frontcourt. This game might turn out to be a good test for Detroit! Austin Daye and Jonas Jerebko are serving suspensions tonight for Detroit.

Over His Girlfriend: So by now you have likely heard Celtics' forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis has been suspended indefinitely by the team for an off-court altercation which resulted in him breaking his thumb which will cost him at least 6 weeks of the season. Reports from Laurel J. Sweet and Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald say that Davis got into an argument with his "best friend" and former LSU teammate Shawn Bridgewater over what police say was accusations of alleged contact with Davis' girlfriend by Bridgewater.

The Celtics will be fining Davis and its being reported that Celtics primary owner Wyc Grousbeck was extremely upset over this situation and wants to be a punitive as he can be under the NBA's fining and suspension guidelines. "He's going to have to chip in for this situation he caused," Grousbeck said to the Herald. "This was an unauthorized activity resulting in the team losing his services, and he's going to have to pay for that. There are going to be consequences for that. "But we're still looking forward to his return. He's still a part of this team. We want him to get past this and get back on the court."

Davis signed a two-year $6.3 million deal this past summer after failing to drum up league interest in his services on a larger deal. The NBA allows for a player to be fined 1/110th of his annual salary for every game a player is suspended or in Davis' case $27,200 per game.

Cory in Aurora, IL:
The Bulls have made the playoffs 4 of the past 5 years, yet haven't had an All Star in that time. Can you think of another team with that kind of steady success without any All Star talent?

Steve Kyler:
Not off the top of my head, but the Bulls over that span really haven't had any serious "stars"
In 2006 - it was Ben Gordon and Luol Deng and those guys just were not impactful enough...
In 2005 - it was Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich that were the top scorers...again neither were change the game players.
In 2004 - Eddy Curry was the leading scorer, followed by Kirk... again, I think even the most ardent Bulls fans would agree those are not All-Star names.
The Bulls have for the past several years been an average team that made the playoffs, so unless you have a "star" a real star, middle of the road teams don't get All-Star nods.

James in New York:
I've heard many times that anybody can put up good stats on a bad team (it's why Brand never made an All-Star team with the Bulls). So, if that's true, how do we know Kevin Durant is for real?

Steve Kyler:
Fans vote in 5 players... so there are five guys that get in on popularity... the rest get in on coaches votes... coaches vote in winners, what teams are at the very top of the standings... in Houston in 2007 4 Pistons make the squad... last year 3 magic players make the squad.... coaches equate All-Stars to winner, who is the best player at their position that causes teams to win. The Bulls sucked when Elton Brand was there, I know I covered them...As for KD, we don't know that KD isn't good player on a bad team, but I;d say there is enough evidence to suggest he's going to be great... he was the best player for Team USA this summer, thats a pretty good squad. But I agree, your not a great player until you win.... I think KD will get both this year.

What do you think about Hamilton To Utah, Bozeer To New York and Lee & Robinson To Pistons? Which Detroit player is the more likely to be traded; Hamilton or Prince?Cheers

Thomas Beer:
Nah - Jazz don't want to take on Rip's contract.
Hamilton is more likely to be moved - could happen sooner rather than later...

Iverson blames Curry, not Pistons
Grizzlies guard Allen Iverson was sitting down at the FedEx Forum today, talking to reporters, when he stopped for a moment to wave down at the other end of the court. He greeted members of the Pistons’ traveling party, and it was apparent the player who many fans blame for torpedoing the Pistons' era of dominance last season has no ill will toward anyone currently associated with the team. He saves his bitterness for former Pistons coach Michael Curry. “I was put in a bad situation that I, obviously, wasn’t mentally ready for because I was promised it would be another way, and it was totally different,” said Iverson, who will sit out tonight’s season opener with a left hamstring injury. “Obviously, it didn’t work out. The head coach isn’t even there any more after one season. “It didn’t turn out the way Michael Curry said it was gonna be.”

He added that if current Pistons coach John Kuester were around last season, things would have turned out differently than a losing record and first-round playoff exit. “It would have been a 100% different or 100% better, a thousand percent better, because I would have known what I was getting myself in,” Iverson said with a laugh. “I’m pretty sure Q would have been straightforward with me about how things would have been, and things would have ended up that way.” Iverson said Curry lied to him by saying Iverson would never have to come off the bench. Curry hasn’t commented since being fired by Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars in late June. When Iverson briefly returned to the lineup after a back injury last winter, Curry had Iverson come off the bench. Iverson played a few games, openly complaining about the role, before he and the Pistons agreed to shut him down for the season.

Pistons guard Rip Hamilton, who was at the center of the controversy by starting ahead of Iverson, backs Iverson’s account and thinks the pairing could have worked if a better coach were around. “I just thought that the coach we had at the time (didn’t allow us to be) at our best, and when you don’t have that, it makes it difficult because all guys are just trying to figure each other out on the floor on the fly other than putting us in situations where we can make each other better,” Hamilton said today. As far as any rift between the two, Iverson and Hamilton, who share agent Leon Rose, scoffed. “I think the media tried to make it something that it really wasn’t, that we weren’t friends,” Hamilton said. “We talk off the court all the time, to this day. “It was just something that was magnified to a spot where it was me versus him, and it never was. We were always very supportive of each other. We just didn’t win.”

Pistons battling Grizzlies in season opener
It's Allen Iverson's new team vs. his old one tonight, as the Detroit Pistons travel south to take on the Memphis Grizzlies in the season opener at FedEx Forum. The compelling story line will likely have to wait, however, because the future Hall of Fame guard has a partially torn left hamstring and will not play tonight.

But Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins has many other players to rely on, such as Rudy Gay, O.J. Mayo, Darrell Arthur and Mike Conley. Hollins, who was named the Grizzlies' head coach for the third time in the franchise's short history in January, was the team's interim coach during the 1999-2000 and 2004-05 seasons. He hopes to do a better job than former full-time coach Marc Iavaroni, who guided the club to a paltry 11-30 record before losing his job. Hollins hopes this season that some new faces will change the losing atmosphere in Memphis. One in particular is Zach Randolph (Michigan State). The oft-criticized big man is surrounded by young players and must not set a bad example like he has in the past. He will help rookie center Hasheem Thabeet, the second overall selection in the 2009 NBA draft, after he signed a multiyear contract in July.

The Pistons, meanwhile, are coming off a down year. The teams split a pair of meetings last year, with each club winning on the other's home floor. The Grizzlies' 89-84 win in Auburn Hills on March 15 snapped a seven-game skid against the Pistons, who have won their last four visits to Memphis.
