Ny and MN trade idea
If NY really wants to run after two Max FA this summer they need to move Curry's contract.
Curry+Gallo+2011 Draft pick (*unprotected)
for
Blount+Cardinal
2 things to take into consideration
1.) I do not believe 1, let alone 2, Max Free agents are going to go to NY. They simply cannot offer the type of supporting cast that the Nets, Miami, Chicago can. So the unprotected 1st could be a top-5 pick in a healthy draft.
2.) I think our best way to add talent will be to do trade not a Free agent signing. Even if we do this NY trade, we still have the cheap/exp contracts of Gomes, Wilkins, Stewie, Pav, (28% of the cap w/o Gomes) and assets such as Sessions/draft picks/Pekovic in order to make a trade such as the Gay or philly deals.
NY gets a chance to get 2 Max free agents. Which is what they really want/need to convince the fan base they are relevant.
We get a potentially scary high draft pick, as well as a Nice expiring contract for next year (huge) that we could use for a trade. All we give up is free agency this summer.

Re: Ny and MN trade idea
I think its one of those deals that might make realistic sense for NY if they want 2 FA's, but NY RealGM fans will completely destroy. Some think Curry has value...
I am all for it..personally the FA crop (that we might be able to overpay for) does not necessarily interest me...so i am more than willing to trade it for something like this.
I am not a salary guy, so could someone help me understand how taking on Curry/Gallo would affect our ability to sign pekovic(do we know how much he might want?)

Knicks fans have said they would not use Gallinari to move Curry.
If they feel the bright lights of NYC gives them the chance to lure two superstars, (maybe a better chance than one!) if they have the cap space, I'd deal Gallo in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, we won't learn what NYK's front office would do from their RealGM fans or fan/mods.

Re: Ny and MN trade idea
Knick fans are idiots. (hence why I posted this year not on the trade board)
Shrink, give me more thoughts on the money that moves here. What does NY clear, what does this do to us?
I think the biggest issue for Pekovic will be playing time. I personally would start him with Al and bring love off the bench. Play each around 30min or so. If we tell Pekovic he will be a big part of the team it would help. If anything Pekovic/Love would lead to Al possibly moved for a wing--but I like having 3 solid bigs.

I agree Rev, but I know original estimates a couple of months ago on here, were that Pekovic might want more than the MLE. Obviously, other contracts can be moved to accomodate him, but I was curious, cause I think Pekovic will have bargaining power, and I am not sure how low he will go...
But...I would consider a Pekovic, Gallo, NY 2011 1st...a successful offseason because I think 2011 might be the year to have FA cap space.

NY can't trade their 2011 pick since they don't have a 2010 pick. A team can't trade their pick 2 years in a row. Or so I understand.

You are gambling on a couple of things:
1) we can't use the cap space money next summer effectively.
2) that new york will not be able to bring in (two) free agents -- but we are making it far more likely that they do so. Will we get top 5 pick, if the Knicks get say Amare and Rondo, to add to Lee? [Would Amare like to play for D'Antoni again, the guy who made his career?, would Rondo fit into a runing scheme? (though Rondo could go off the market his weekend)]
Unless you believe that Curry has real trade value and might be a "keeper" [I don't think he is a keeper and most teams won't touch him with ten foot pole, both because of "on and off the court issues".] it seems like a poor risk to me.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>sorry didn't see Gallinari....that changes things.... I"d have to think if he was worth our cap space....not sure I know his game well enough to say.....

$14.5 mil in 2010 cap space would end our free agent dreams in 2010, but give the Knicks a chance at two free agents of the four superstars (LeBron, Amare, Wade, Bosh).
I didn't say it very clearly before, but if I'm NYK, I think I consider using almost any assets to try to move Curry and/or Jeffries. I personally think their chances of getting two of those four is greater than getting 1 of the 4. For example, if you're Bosh, NYC's bright lights may appeal, but you're still going there to be a mediocre team, and take a beating from reporters for it. However, if they can sell you that you can join with LeBron or Wade, suddenly your team is a winner, and you're coming in as a savior.
For us, we're saying Gallinari and a 2011 pick are worth $14 mil next season and the loss of our cap space, plus the future rookie deals starting in 2011. Gallinari will be worth nowhere near $14 this year, but the deal might be worth it longterm. The pick better be worth something, so we're gambling NYC can't bring in two stars, and NYC's gambling they can.
Knicks fans usually say that Gallinari is the only guy completely off the table in a move to get rid of Curry.

I think NYK would be smart not to trade the Gallinari. Trading a player who played 28 games after returning from a serious injury is one of those buy high sell low situations. I think NYK overrates him a bit (suprise), but no reason to put a for sale sign on his back.

But they need to offer something good to get a team to eat $10.5 mil worth of Curry, especially next year. They just don't have a lot of good assets to move that much salary.

This is a rule, but I believe there are rules around this. Being that their trade was done years ago I think it could work. Similar to how we had our pick sent to the clips and a future pick sent to the celtics.
I have seen other people use trade ideas involving the NY pick next years, so maybe those threads were wrong?

Re: Ny and MN trade idea
I like Gallo a lot. I know NY would not want to move him for Curry, but thats the point. Gallo is really the only valuable piece they have to move Curry.
PeeDee, I would likely do this deal for the 2012 unprotected pick+Gallo. The key is unprotected.
I really like Gallo's skill set, but also adding a Pekovic and a Gallo might have appeal to Rubio.
Gallo> Gay (for me)
Pekovic/Hollins
Al/Love
Gallo/Brewer
Turner/Flynn/Ellingson
Rubio/Flynn
30min for each 8 man group (Pek, Al, Love, gallo, Turner, Rubio, Flynn, Brewer,) Ellingson/Hollins 10min spare.
Plus a FRee agent or whoever we get for the Ny pick.

Good find peeDee.
Ted Stepien rule is you can't have traded, so you have no 1st round picks for the next two years.
But rev's right -- we could sidestep it. If MIN wanted to trade for NYK's 2011 pick, they could try to acquire a late, unprotected pick from a sure contender, and send that to NYK. For example, we send BOS $3 mil in cash and they send us their 2010 pick. We could send that to NYK, and they'd avoid the rule. You can trade away both of your picks -- you just have to have "some" pick the fans can expect over the next two years.

Gallo is putting up some nice stats. 16 points, 22 points, and today 30 points. If I was NYK and just had to trade him, I would wait. Let him get his value up.

What about something based around Sessions for Duhon? (Took this from Rube Chat, I have to admit). Duhon is not a bad point guard, he just isn't starting material.
Sessions/Pecherov for Duhon/future pick?????

No. Sessions is a positive value. Even if we are not using him properly, we should wait until a trade for a wing player happens. Session clearly has more value than Duhon.
That future pick would need to be sweet.
btw, rubechat? That kind of adultery will not be tolerated.
