He's overpayed, no doubt. But I get a bit annoyed when people say he didn't play well here, because he played great. He's the only guy since Cassell to really earn the starting PG spot, and he's the only guy that never got benched. And he was just a throw-in. I don't see how people can say anything bad about him in his time here, yet people only say bad things about him.

I thought Banks was pretty awesome for us, I loved going to those games. It made you realize how good KG could be with a real scoring guard sidekick, because Banks was getting 4th quarter isolation looks down the stretch, he could finish through contact, and his jumper was even falling more than advertised. The Hudson contract had the Wolves gun shy though, seems to have worked out because he sucked so much w/ Phoenix, but thats full court fastbreak basketball. Banks' value for us was in the halfcourt and played the best basketball of his life. Any player that gets to play w/ KG and run the offense like that seems to really step up their game.

Banks wasn't a throw-in, at least according to McHale. McHale made it sound like we added the first round pick to the trade especially to get Banks. The only reason we didn't resign is because we didn't have his Bird rights, which is something McHale didn't know when he made the trade.

Yeah, I don't really believe McHale though.

You did have his Bird rights. He just wasn't a restricted free agent.

I remember specifically that we didn't, because his option wasn't picked up.

There'd be nothing necessarily wrong with taking on Banks if there were incentive, but there's not incentive in that deal.

Yeah, the rule is that if an option year of a rookie scale contract is declined, you can't then use Bird rights to re-sign them for more than what the option year would have paid. So ignore what I said there.

That said, nothing was stopping you from using your MLE on him. Well, apart from sense.
