Looking back, the Favre/Packers relationship going bad

I don't think it goes back that far myself. My thoughts are the relationship went south when the Packers had Randy Moss on the hook to join the Packers in a trade with the Raiders, then threw him back for no reason what so ever leaving Favre to think the franchise had given up on winning and wanted to rebuild.

That's just the way I see things as somebody on the outside looking in. Maybe you Cheeseheads see things in another light being on the inside.

First of all, that's not how the possible trade with Moss went down. There are debates whether it was Thompson or the board of ownership that turned it down based on character issues they thought would arise with Moss. Also, I do know that they said the Patriots made an offer and they never called the Packers back to counter-offer.

Finally, I'm not sure Randy Moss at the time would have guaranteed winning. I and many others definitely wanted him, but he wasn't even attempting to play with Oakland and they were terrible. I don't know if that officially moves you toward "winning" instead of rebuilding. Obviously, in hindsight he was amazing for the Patriots.

Oh, and even though they didn't trade for Moss they went 13-3 and were a play away from the Super Bowl. I wouldn't say that means they were trying to "rebuild."

It was one of the many things that shouldn't have pissed off Favre that probably did and made him want to leave Green Bay. Troy Aikman said what a lot of us have been saying on here for a while. Favre had no intention of coming back to Green Bay after his first "retirement".

I remember reading that Moss had a lot of say in where he was going to be traded. Before New England entered the picture, Moss was pushing hard to play with Favre in Green Bay. But then New England came in with a similar offer to Green Bay's and when that happened Moss told Oakland he only wanted to go to New England. Which seems to make sense. At the time Green Bay looked like a team on the decline (this was before we went on the '07 NFC championship run) and New England looked like an elite team with an elite QB and Coach.

Aikman's the only national guy who's been calling out what really happened. Favre had enough of GB. He became a prima donna, wanted more a$$ kissing, didn't get any from Thompson and consequently internalized it that he was no longer wanted.

Thompson probably got sick of all the me first attitude with Favre, and knew what he had in Rodgers. TT wasn't about to kiss a$$ to get him back, but he didn't do anytihng to help get Favre back.

The whole things sucks because I personally can't even look back on the last 16 years or whatever with good memories because all i can see now is the guy who we were all married to for so long cheating on us with our best friend or biggest enemy, whichever you think is worse. He wanted to stab TT in the back (or front), but ended up stabbing all the Packer fans in the back.

1.) Favre had been pleading for TT to hire Mariucci. TT hired McCarthy, that's where it started.

2.) Randy Moss. Favre clearly was lobbying to get Moss. It wasn't the executive board, it wasn't Thompson, it was McCarthy who didn't want Moss. They actually let Favre sit in on a meeting regarding Moss. Once Favre left the room, McCarthy basically said, no way, no how. So it didn't happen.

Those are basically the two main reasons. Ever since those two things went down, Favre wanted out.

What I don't know is what McCArthy and Favre spoke about at length the day Favre came back to Green Bay in the off season when he was traded to the Jets. My guess is he was pleading to McCarthy to release him outright so he could go straight to Minnesota. The 2nd thing I would assume they spoke about is, if they wouldn't release him, let him come back and let A-Rodge sit out one more year. Hence why Favre asked A-Rodge directly to give him one more year.
