Rams vs. Seahawks
This will be the equivalent of a kick in the nuts if we don't win this game. To let two winless teams come into our house back-to-back and get their first win would clearly reveal that this team does not possess the "right stuff" necessary of a contender.
Alexander usually runs well against the Rams. If he doesn't today, it will surely swell the ranks of those who say his best days are behind him as a back. Tim Ruskell was at the UW/Oregon game yesterday, and it seems pretty clear that he was there to check out Oregon's Jonathan Stewart first and foremost. It's been my contention that the drafting of a running back may well be the Seahawk's top priority in next year's draft, especially if one of the top 3 backs falls to us in the first round. Stewart is one of the top 3 backs at present, IMO.
As for today's game, it's about getting the offense going. It seems that our defense plays much better when the offense allows them to play more aggressively; but the offense has been having so much trouble getting on track early in games. The offense has also been dreadfully lacking in a balanced attack of late, the ability to keep opposing defenses on their heels unable to focus upon shutting down one aspect of our offensive attack.
Anyway....I'm not overly excited about this game, more see this game as a game that we have to take care of business, get a win, rather than a game which will get us out of our funk and headed back in the right direction.
This is a game that has little upside potential if we win, but enormous downside potential if we lose.

We have a problem, Seahawks' fans. Our offense sucks now. Think about it:
1) We're playing an 0-7 team
2) We're playing at home with a loud crowd
3) The Rams had negative passing yardage till the final minute of the half
4) We're getting a career game out of Daryl Tapp
5) We're constantly getting good field position
6) The Rams are making mistake after mistake
AND WE'RE ONLY UP 10-3 AT THE HALF!

Just got back from the game...
The defense looked great, while St. Louis offensive line was garbage and Bulger seemed content to sit in the pocket until somebody put him on his butt. This is the team of team that our defense is built to play.
Hass was off. Again.
If SA went out for the season, and Morris and Weaver were forced to split the runs, this team might just be better off. The crowd cheered SA went he simply fell forward...Morris and Weaver hit the hole hard, and he needs to do the same.
The talk on KIRO after the game was about how much better the running game looked. I thought it still looked like crap for the most part, but looked good when Morris and Weaver were in. I can't blame the line for not opening up holes and running lanes when other RBs seem to find them. SA's just running into his blockers, or getting confused and trying to loop around to the other side of the field. He doesn't have the quickness or the cutback ability to get away with that type of stuff any more.
Best moment of the game was convincing my friend's son that he needed a hotdog, so the kid pestered his dad until he went up to get him a hot dog...and missed Burleson's kickoff return TD. Good stuff.

Thanks for the live gamecap. Seems like you had a good time.

It seems that SA has to become a different type of runner now, and he appears to be unwilling to do so. He needs to become more of a power runner. The way he ran before isn't cutting it for a variety of reasons.
Anyway....

He really does. I don't know if it's the injury to his foot still bothering him, or whether he's finally showing signs of aging, but what he's always done isn't working anymore and I have serious doubts it ever will.
But asking Alexander to take a hit and be physical is like asking Julian Peterson to not have giant muscled arms.

I think most projections have Stewart as the second or third RB taken in the draft. I've seen one that has him going to the Hawks.
So, Stewart and Morris as the RB's, eh. I guess I'll be okay with that, as long as Joey Harrington isn't the QB.

Barring that some super blue chip player doesn't fall to us at another position, would you grab Stewart with our #1 pick? Aren't Rice and Stewart ranked 2nd and 3rd amongst backs, providing they all come out? From what I've read so far (and these things can change fast), after the Arkansas back gets picked, many prognosticators have either Sewart or Rice falling to us, much like Alexander did the year we drafted him.
Stewart, Morris, and Weaver would make a nice backfield for some years to come, one would think. The way Alexander has been running of late, if we got a top back in the draft, I might consider letting him go a year sooner than I had previously thought it sane to. I'm still waffling on such an idea.
How much do we take off the CAP by releasing Alexander in the off-season? How much of his bonus counts against the CAP? I'm a little short on my CAPology as it applies to the NFL.

From what I've heard, McFadden is a clear-cut #1 RB in this draft. After that, Stewart is a possibility, as is Felix Jones (overshadowed by McFadden at Arkansas), Tashard Choice from GT, Rice, Steve Slaton, Ryan Torain or Mike Hart. Who emerges as the #2 RB in the first round and who winds up as a third round pick will probably have to be sorted out at the combine. But, yes, Stewart does look like a nice possibility at this point. If he's gone, I kind of like Hart, though maybe not in the first round.
EDIT: well, I've read a little more and suddenly people are now calling Stewart a top-tier, blue-chip prospect who's bound for a top-10 pick. Like if McFadden is #1A in the class, then Stewart is #1B. Of course, they said some of those things about Shaun Alexander. It all depends on how many teams need to draft RBs, I guess (and whether some dumb GMs will draft this year's equivalent of Ron Dayne and Thomas Jones with higher picks).
