........................................................................................................................................................................Game Notes

Washington (2-1) thought it was on the verge of being an annual contender in the Eastern Conference after losing a hard-fought six-game series to the Cavaliers (2-2) in the first round of the 2006 NBA playoffs. Instead, injuries to Butler and Arenas hampered the Wizards the next two seasons, which both ended with opening-round exits against Cleveland.

Arenas has averaged 28.0 points in his first three games after missing all but two games of the 2008-09 season due to knee injuries, but this time the team's other two All-Stars have been hurt. Antawn Jamison won't play for at least two more weeks after suffering a shoulder injury while trying to contest a shot from Cleveland's Zydrunas Ilgauskas in the preseason, and Butler missed Saturday's home opener against New Jersey with a bruised left knee suffered Friday.

"I've said it before that Delonte is one of those guys that doesn't need to do anything," said LeBron James, who was held to 14 points in 37 minutes. "He can sit out for two weeks and he comes back in and he's right in the flow. I've said it before, he is just that type of guy."

West's return also coincided with the best game of Mo Williams' first week. Limited to 16.0 points per game on 35.1 percent shooting in Cleveland's first three games, Williams was 9 of 14 and scored 24 on Saturday.

The Wizards split four meetings with the Cavaliers last season, with each team protecting home court twice. Arenas had 11 points and 10 assists in a 109-101 win at the Verizon Center on April 2, one of the two games he played. James has averaged 28.4 points in leading the Cavaliers to 10 wins in their last 11 home games against Washington, including the postseason.

Nice job with the game thread. Looking forward to this one for obvious reasons.

Should be a good test for us given how well WAS has played this year.

That is a great FAIR analysis of the teams. Hope the Wizards win and good health to both teams.

+1

Funny thing about DeShawn Stevenson is that most Wizard fans wanted him gone last season. I bet 50% of all the ideas involve trading DeShawn. However, he's really popular when the Wizards play the Cavs for obvious reasons to Wizard fans.

Good early test for both teams.

New drama for Wizards is that Foye and Miller weren't in on all the hate and drama. Flip is from Cleveland. Lebron and Miller are, apparently, pretty tight. Miller wears Lebron shoes. (?)

Any how, I love this stuff, win or lose. :)

For the recent bandwagoners, this rivalry got nasty on this board during the playoff series when they played. Please play nice, because some of the Wizards fans are actually real fun to interact with.

It still looks funny to see Shaq in a Cavs uni.
This has all the makings of a 2nd round playoff preview IMO.

So I heard Washington was planning on giving you guys a beat down. 2-3. Any truth to this myth?

Their football team is better than Cleveland's, so it's hard to rip all of DC. I find Brendan Haywood delusionally amusing and eminently flameworthy.

Looking forward to seeing the intact Wizards before half their rotation gets hurt and misses 3 months.

I actually love DC. Great area, a little overpopulated these days but a great place to be. People like to call NY the best city but I much prefer DC. So I have nothing against the area and really don't dislike the team except Stephenson. It's the fans I find obnoxious (Donk notwithstanding).

So lets talk basketball no exceptions

First, let me give some props. The Cavs are the "Big Kids on the Block". You one of the measuring sticks that other teams get up for so that they can see if they can run with the big dogs.

Unfortunately, for the last few years we have been hurt and shorthanded. Even though we have been without Arenas for the last two years we have played strong against you. Now that maybe because of extra motivation playing you and a lack of motivation of you playing us.

You all should be grateful that Lebron has stayed healthy. Lebron is the X factor. Without him the Cavs are an ordinary. With him you are a top 3 team. We feel the same way about Arenas. Befor he got hurt he was our X factor, though maybe not quite as good, he was something special and practically unstoppable. Arenas is still not totally back yet but an Arenas that is 80% of his former self still makes him the 2nd best player on the court when the Wiz and Cavs play.

Also, just so you know, most Wiz fans don't think that Stevenson should be shooting his mouth off. Not unless he can back it up, and he hasn't shown that yet. There is no reason to make the big dog mad befor the fight by saying things that only get him psyched up.

D. West is a local DC boy so you all can't be all that bad.
