The Verizon Crowd At The Nets Game

Post#1 » by dlts20 » Tue Nov 3, 2009 5:26 pm

IDK for sure if this goes somewhere else so feel free to merge.

Ive talked alot on numerous Wiz sites about our crowd and pretty much everyone agrees that the Verizon Center is like a morgue. Even when Gil was healthy and we had one of the most exciting players & teams, we would have a very boring arena. Its always quitet and seems like a drag. The playoffs are great and its like night & day but I would always wonder why it cant be similar during the regular season. Ofcourse it wouldnt be like the playoffs but it doesnt have to be so stale either. The only few times it does get loud is when we play teams like the Lakers but most of the cheering is for the Lakers & Kobe.

So now fast forward this year to our home opener. I didnt have high hopes as we were playing a bad team on a weekend, and on Holloween. In the past Ive always felt bad for our new guys because I always felt they would be extremely dissapointed when they find out how dull our home crowd is and I was thinking the same thing about our 3 new guys and coaching stuff this year. For the Nets game I thought only half the crowd at best would show and it would be super boring & quiet. However much to my surprise, the place seemed more crowded then I could remember seeing for a Wiz game, espicaly against a bum team, and it was loud & exciting throughout. Keep in mind that I didnt go to the game but you could see on TV that it was just totally different than the past. Im hoping it wasnt just a 1 time thing for the opener but even if people planned it to be a one time thing, I think the performance of our team and how exciting it is will make people want to come back.

I always wondered how the Wiz games could be so night & day from the Caps. The Nets game wasnt a Caps game but it was like a Caps game when you compare it to what normal Wiz games are like and it has a chance to only get better if we are good and are playing good teams. The amazing thing is that when we were healthy, we always had a good home record even with a dull dead crowd. If the crowd stays packed and loud like it was in game 1 then we will have a beast HCA with all the talent we have becuase you know guys play better at home anyways, espically the young cats. I just had to make a thread about it because I was really impressed and hope it stays that way or gets better. I think people seeing it on TV or being there in the opener will again make the Wiz games the place to be and for the 1st time in a long time, it will be exciting

I also think Comcast or whoever does not mic the arena well. I've been to some live games in recent years and the place is louder than what it would appear on TV. Check out a game on ESPN and TNT vs. a game on Comcast, and the sound is completely different.I think it has something to do with production, but yeah, the place can get loud. I remember going to a Laker game while Kwame was with the Lakers, and it was a playoff atmosphere. Pretty intense. Kwame got booed every time he touched the ball.

I watch it on TV and it's like I'm watching tennis or something.

So what you're saying is we should all get off our lazy butts and go to the arena to see home games?
Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

OMG, no you did not just say that. I swear I just had a whole paragraph about that exact same thing in the opening thread but I decided to take it out because it was too long. I was also talking about how different stations sound different and how we have to have the lowest audio of all the teams or NBA Networks. I was talking about how we were playing the Bulls and I was watching the game on TNT and one time on the Bulls Network and then I turned it to Comcast and it sounded way lower and made the game sound much more boring. I said that I wish we could have the Bulls or TNT audio for all of our games because it would make it sound that much better. Then when talking about the Nets game and how loud the crowd was I said that IDK if all the loudness was just from the crowd or did Comcast finally get a better audio system. Maybe a little of both

Again, its not just that. Even when the crowd is big its still dead silent compared to other arenas. The Nets game was different though and I hope it stays that way. Every time I go to the game its solid but can be very boring and it needs to change

It's because the Wiz and Caps show promise. The Skins suck, so DC needs something positive. Maybe that's it.

Well I'm usually very excited for the Wizards, but I am moreso this year b/c of the combo of Gil coming back (and our team make up all together) and the fact that I'm not as siked for football cus the Skins suck.

I've been to Verizon and it's been crazy loud. Back in 06-07, I was at a game (I think against the Bobcats) and it was a close game. Gil had 30 something. The place was crazy!

I don't know about all of you but It's because the Wiz and Caps show promise. The Skins suck, so DC needs something positive. Maybe that's it.

I weet niet hoe julllie er over denken maar het is omdat the Tovenaars and Hoofdletters (foute vertaling, lol) vooruitgang te bieden hebben. The Huiden suck, dus DC heeft iets positiefs nodig. Misschien is dat het.

That is as well as the hat can show promise. The leather will smoke, therefore it affirms that something will be needed to be done. Perhaps that's all it is.

I've been to the last 5 or 6 season openers, and season openers always have a little more electricity about them--even when you're playing a bum team like the NJN. However, I do think there's a lot more excitement--and optimism-- regarding the Zards this year. And some of that was obvious on opening night.

New coach, new and improved talent and the return of Agent Zero. It's hard not to get a little excited.

And let's not be too critical of how "loud" (or not) the Verizon Center crowd is...at least we don't pump in artificial crowd noise like the Nets and some other teams.
