Cats might be players in 2010 FA?

Post#1 » by ohara » Wed Nov 4, 2009 2:31 am

I was reading a Chad Ford Insider article at ESPN. Cannot link the Insider articles, sorry. But it was about the potential FA class of 2010. Everyone focusing on Wade, King James and Kobe (if he opts out). But he mentioned that TC could go for an early termination also if he has a good year with Charlotte since there wont be many FA centers. Now, if you look at the contracts we have this season, we are stuck with a lot and cannot make any quality moves. But if TC does opt out, then with TC, Raja and Raymond all being FA's next year, we could free up over $22 mil off the payroll. Now we may go after 1 or all 3 of those guys, but that is still a lot of money. We could actually have money to go after someone. Just found it interesting.

I cannot imagine Chandler risking 12.6m.

Maybe LB can make him hate his life?

I'm pretty sure even if you hate your life, you don't take a +50% pay cut, which is probably what he'd be in line for.

We're not going to have any cap space until 2011, when Chandler, Vlad, and Nazr come off the books.

The only expirings will be Felton, Bell, Murray, Graham (and Derrick Brown's next year is not fully guaranteed, but that's irrelevant, he is on cheap contract and we will almost certainly keep him regardless). We make bring some of these guys back (Graham?) but some them will be probably gone for good.

You're thinking of the difference between the luxury tax and our player salary...not the cap. At best if TC opted out (which he won't) we'd be somewhere between 5-7 under, which isn't enough for a top tier FA. We could add another MLE type deal but only one; if you're under the cap you don't get the MLE.

I just checked out shamsports.com salary index.

But I don't know if those numbers are correct.

In shamsports Nazr and Vlad has an early termination too.

I don't see Vlad exercising it, cause he play so bad.

Nazr did not like his situation in Charlotte ... so I think he can easily be gone, especially with so many teams with money in 2010. He can easily find a suitor for 7 million.

If Vlad will be playing much much much much better. Than I think he can also leave us. I pray for it every day! :D
But I don't see this happening, I only wish for it to happen. I think Vlad will suck bad the whole season, and won't excersie his option.

I do not see Chandler giving up that much money. I do not think anybody will pay him up to this amount ever again.

this is a pipe dream for multiple reasons.

#1. Even if we had more money than any other NBA team none of those FA's would sign here to leave their current situations. Lebron is going to NY/NJ or staying in Cleveland. Wade will probably stay in Miami, Carmello will probably stay or go to whichever NY team doesn't get Lebron, and Bosh is the only guy I picture bailing.

#2. We have some of the worst contracts in the league, but luckily they expire after next season. No freaking way in hell any of those guys opts out early. It's hard enough now for a GOOD player to get a good contract let alone some of these scrubs. TC, Nazr, Raja, Vlady, etc. will all be teamless or playing for a fraction of their existing deals. I'm not even convinced Nazr would land on another team and I imagine TC would be 5m MAX

The ONLY way for us to get a player of star caliber is to draft them or trade for them. Hopefully if we're gonna suck this bad we either make a trade quickly (ANYONE AND EVERYONE SHOULD BE EXPENDABLE) or we end up with a top 3 pick and let LB choose the guy while MJ golfs.

This is just so amazing right here. Nazr would lucky to get a 3 year contract worth $7 mil total, let alone $7 mil in one year.

  Don't worry... TC will stay at 12.6 mil 8 boards 8 rebounds 28 mpg and also BOB will not sell the team..... so look for a complete blowup/rebuild of the team unless we look like we are goint to the playoffs....Bob already trying to apply for Tarp funds to pay TC and GW salaries this year. Also by the trade deadline if we are out of contention then LB will be trading several players... If he doesn't like what Bobs Budget will allow him to trade for,he will opt out and retire at the end of this season.. THE BOBCATS DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE BIG SPENDERS NEXT YEAR.. Our best hope is that DJ, Henderson and Brown become starters next season and we trade GW for a young scoring/Rebounding 4 like Lemarcus Aldridge,or Jeff Green,or even veteran Mohmet Okur to work in the paint with TC.. After watching TC he has the defensive and offensive rebounding skills , but needs another athletic big with him that scores
and then his numbers will get even better.

Sadly, Charlotte doesnt have a trading chip on their entire roster talented enough to get them a player like lamarcus aldridge. Green may be possible with some combonation of players but it would cost charlotte big. Okur could probably be had but he hardly qualifies as being young anymore.

Wallace, and DJ and Bell's expiring are really the only desirable trade pieces they have.

Diaw's value is very low right now. He's out of shape and has several seasons at 9 mil per year left on his deal. No team in the league would touch Nazr and Diop's contract with a 10 foot pole.

Hendo and Brown's value could probably be ameliorated with some court time but they are the type of young/cheap players Charlotte should be stockpiling.

Ajinca porbably wouldnt command much more than an early second rounder.

If the front office does eventually come to terms with how mediocre this team is and makes the right decision to blow everything up, they'd be well advised to emulate the Thunder and parlay the few valuable pieces we do have into future first round picks and young prospects who are flying under the radar.

 :( :-? :-? :-? :-? Speaking of the OKC Thunder, I wonder if after Dec 22nd when the Bobcats contract trade restriction is lifted off Raymond, if they would entertian Ethan Thomas, Westbrook and Green for Felton, Wallace , Derrick Brown and future protected first. They then add a 5 year veteran point along with a 7 year veteran who can play 2,3,or4 and a young 3/4 and also get another first round pick? We get the 3/4 forward in Jeff Green, Westbrook at point to split time or pair with DJ and Thomas whose contract expires end of season trade checker 5269912.
We solve the Felton contract delima and our power forward starter, move Diaw to 3 and make a run at the eastern conference playoffs while at the same time have Thomas large contract expiring to give us room in 2010. Since Thomas is a center we may be able to trade Diop to a contender for an other expiring veteran contract after January 1st. Think about it.
