Re: Perkins said Rondo said this about Chris Paul
I think anyone of Rondo's detractors had a valid point (skepticism) prior to the 2007-2008 season. However, once Rondo (and Perkins) proved that the Boston Celtics starting five wasn't merely Pierce, Garnett and Ray. They presumingly gained a new form of respect from some of those in the national media at least. But I believe that the flaws that still exist in Rondo's game, contribute to the negative perception of him which deny him from being talked about as being among the top starting point guards in the league. All players in the league have moments of questionable behavior on the court or toward one another, I'll say. Even Duncan... But, until Rondo becomes a more efficient shooter, free throw shooter and more aggressive offensively among other things. I believe he'll continue to draw criticism from those in the national and local media and among national fans even if some of those criticisms are undeserving.

Stockton is the guy you want to look at if you want to try to paint Rondo as an all-time great. Not a "great" scorer but averaged 13ppg for his career - with big years being around 14 or 15 points. He was known as an excellent defender (made the all defense team a half dozen times or so) and averaged like 10 assists for his career.
Those kind of numbers get you to the all-star game as a non-scorer. Rondo's current 6 points and 11 assists aren't going to do it.. Especially when you consider Stockton was a good outside shooter and free throw shooter when he had the opportunity.
Guys like Stockton are "old school" - as most modern PGs are better scorers. But you can see Rondo has a long way to go to reach this kind of lofty status. Personally I don't think its going to happen but would be happy if I was wrong.
Rondo's young enough to experience big growth but I don't think he has the same work ethic as the superstars of the sport. Almost all of them (especially stockton) are renown for their almost insane work ethic.

He's damn good, but he won't even sniff a title in the NBA...no way he's a future HOFer...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

What does that have to do with:
..no way he's a future HOFer...
Plenty of Players who haven't won titles have made it to the Hall of Fame. Paul has as good as chance as anyone currently in the NBA drafted in the same draft class or later than himself to make it to the Hall of Fame

If he can't take..he needs not to be in this league....to freakin bad.

WE ARE CELTIC NATION

That has yet to be seen. Paul is only 24 and has twice been in the top 5 for MVP award share. Something Nash didn't do until he was 30. Paul could realistically be on the 1st or 2nd all-NBA team for the next ten years. Not saying he's definitely getting into the Hall-of-Fame but he has a great start and to say no way is a very bold statement. Just the same as me saying he's definitely going to make it. They're both equally bold

Re: Perkins said Rondo said this about Chris Paul
Come on.. Paul will cruise to the hall of fame, who are you kidding? He's got an Olympic Gold Medal, he's been All-NBA first or second team and and all-star two straight years, he broke a 22-year old record for most consecutive games with a steal.
He's 24.. He's going to be an all-star for probably the next ten years. He is as much of a lock for the hall as any young player going right now. He's been considered the best PG in the league for the past two years.

I agree, CP3 is more of a lock to the HoF than both Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.
Both Paul and Ray needed that championship ring to ensure their HoF ticket. CP3, if he has a sustained and durable career, won't need a single title to get him into the Hall.

Classic.
This is the part that really got me. i'm pretty sure that the players have ALL kinds of things to say about one another behind the scenes, but that stuff doesn't get out. Perk, though, has the unfortunately tendency to let uncomfortable stuff slip out of his pie hole during interviews. Remember the playoffs against the Bulls where he seemingly couldn't stop talking **** to the media? I wanted Ainge to put a gag order on him

Re: Perkins said Rondo said this about Chris Paul
Well, Perkins and Rondo are tight. Not saying he's Rondo's mouthpiece, but some people have those friends that like to talk out loud sometimes. You see it all the time if you read online. I mean you don't always hear a star player say otherwise, but there's always this friend or relative that believes he [star player] will have this be his decision. Really? So, why are you the one proclaiming it and not his agent or publicist, or what have you.
Still, if you're Rondo, you need to keep your personal comments to yourself or wait until you're away from basketball and at home. Or you should tell your teammate to keep what you'd said about so-and-so to yourself. But then, certain players just don't care. Why else would you openly criticize another NBA player (like T. Parker did of Rondo) to the media knowing that those comments would get out for everyone to read.
I digress, I disagree with this writer's opinion. If Paul is so great, and not in need of the talent that Rondo has in teammates. Why can't he seem to accomplish what LeBron did in 2006-2007 and that's reach the NBA Finals with a decent supporting cast. Because that 2007-2008 New Orleans roster was comparable to the Cleveland 2006-2007 roster. You could argue that the Hornets that season were much deeper. But yet, Paul is so great that he... "wouldn’t need that staggering array of talent surrounding Rondo to win titles of his own."
I mean even Zeke had the talent around him at the height of Detroit's championship runs. Ditto with Billups.
And I like how the writer tries to paint Rondo as a villain. Yeah, like Paul isn't a douche bag with his personality. I hate reading an article that is clearly biased. Why is he talking smack against Rondo? You're supposed to keep your piece objective. Do any of us really know what words exchanged between he and Paul. No. So why does this writer speak as if he does...? I don't feel sorry for Paul at all. Because elite players don't always deserve the benefit of the doubt. You're supposed to be an elite player, the best point guard on the planet according to the writer. And you're one of the league's highest paid players. If you want to win, take it up with your general manager and ownership. Don't get all frustrated all of a sudden and envious of players in better situations. Get yourself in a better situation (or create a better situation where you're at) as oppose to developing a bad attitude and griping to anyone who'll listen to you.

As they traded technical fouls at the Boston Garden, as emotions escalated, sources said Rondo declared that Paul wished he could be him, suggesting that his frustration dripped with envy. On the way to the locker room, Hornets coach Byron Scott heard Paul insist that Rondo “is gonna respect me as a man,” and soon Paul started on his way down the corridor to tell the Celtics point guard himself.
The NBA is investigating the Rondo matter, CBS Sportsline reported, but it’s doubtful anything punitive will come of it. After the game Sunday night, Celtics guard Ray Allen walked into the Hornets’ locker room, witnesses said, and all but expressed his embarrassment for Rondo’s increasingly tired act.
Still, those words from Rondo had to hit Chris Paul like a freight train – You’ll never win a ring – because so much of success in this sport is born out of circumstance and good fortune. Rondo stumbled into the Big 3 in Boston for a championship, and Paul ended up with the Celtics’ leftover sixth man, James Posey, who can barely function on the floor this season.
Chris Paul is the planet’s best point guard and wouldn’t need that staggering array of talent surrounding Rondo to win titles of his own.

That's because while winning a ring helps your chances, it isn't going to derail him from making it to the Hall of Fame. The HoF is also largely based on individual accolades as well.
If Chris Paul can consistently get into All-NBA Teams, All- NBA Defensive teams, rack up the All-Star appearances, go up the ranks in PTS, AST, STL etc and maybe win an MVP somewhere down the line, he is pretty much a lock for the Hall of Fame. At this rate, I can say pretty confidently that he WILL achieve those things in the coming years (MVP might be a tough one though). Oh and don't forget he has Bronze and Gold medals with team USA to boot.

I rather enjoy the irony in your post. You speak about objectivity and yet the post wreaks with your bias towards Rondo. I agree that Paul himself has been a hot head the past, but I've read several other articles corroborating those alleged statements by Rondo, so I doubt that this is all a figment of some writer's imagination trying to paint Rondo as a villain.

I don't see what's wrong with being envious of your peers who have made it further (and been given better opportunity to do so). The Hornet's haven't really been known to put out and the guy is just committed to winning. Your last statement about get yourself in a better situation or create a better one is preachy to say the least, and easier said than done.
