Pipe Dreams

Post#1 » by vincecarter4pres » Thu Nov 5, 2009 5:22 am

So let's say we land the #1 overall pick and John Wall is the clear cut #1.
Now let's say we strike out on the big FA's.
Now lets say a certain somebody asked to be traded.
What do we do you ask?

Trade John Wall/Courtney Lee/Yi/Najera for Chris Paul and Peja.
Trade Devin Harris for a top 5 pick and draft Turner or go Monroe, Favors, Ed Davis, etc.
Sign David Lee or Boozer, or sign Rudy Gay if we draft a big man, or sign Scola or Haslem and save more money for 2011 FA.

Leave us with a lineup like:
PG Chris Paul
SG Terrence Williams
SF Evan Turner
PF Lee or Boozer or Scola or Haslem
C Brook Lopez

or

PG Chris Paul
SG Terrence Williams
SF Rudy Gay
PF Greg Monroe or Derrick Favors or Ed Davis
C Brook Lopez

Fill out the bench with CDR, the Dallas pick and our second and a few small FA signings.

People maybe right, Devin and Lee and picks might not be enough for Paul, but if he asks out, a Derrick Rose level or better prospect plus Lee and Yi would likely be too much to pass up from NOH if he was indeed on the block, especially when we absorb Peja, or Posey and Mo Pete.

Then again, there are offers like Westbrook and Green or Harden, or Love plus Flynn or Rubio.

But all hypothetically speaking, would you do the deal or just build behind Wall?

Another question, would you sign anyone besides a stop gap PF, or would you save almost double max for 2011? Figure even signing a David Lee type you could theoretically have max even with him.

Would you take a more complete team lead by CP3 over Lebron or Wade?

Again, this is all pipe dreams, but what if?

If we're going in the pipe dream scenario here....

I'd do whatever it takes to replace Peja with MoPete or Posey (even if it includes giving an extra pick or 2 to get it done). This way instead of signing a Gay or Lee level FA you are still in the realm of getting a MAX guy in 2010. Since you still have the Dallas and Golden State picks, I'd have to think something can be worked out in that regard.

Nothing against the idea of 2011, but with the exception of Melo, are there any FAs out there on the level of Bosh, Amare or Joe Johnson (let alone LeBron and Wade)?

Evan Turner is a stud. Not enough people pay attention to that kid. He will fly under the radar, then be taken top 10 this year and everyone would be like "how can you take him so high?" Then after is outperforms most of the other guys in the draft, everyone will be like "I hope he knocks up my daughter so I get to hang with Evan on holidays!"

I think Wall's nickname should be Wall-E. Because the game comes so easy to him :=D

I don't like Rudy Gay, and quite honestly, I'd rather have nobody and save the money for 2011 than have him on the team.

But the John Wall trade for CP3 sounds nice.
