If he did this it would be really impressive because the skill sets are so different. The typical 2-sport athlete plays football and baseball (Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders). Charlie Ward is probably the closest comparison when he played FSU football before being drafted by the Knicks. Baby did sound a little cocky with the "when I'm an all-star" comment but he also pointed to KG and Rasheed being much better players than him so maybe it was taken out of context. To say the least, he's been doing some thinking.

I disagree with you that the skill sets are SO differet, what make baseball and football similar?? There hasn't been any pro football / basketball players is because the schedule conflict. Many basketball players do play football in high school.

OK, name some similarities between basketball and football...

Require good hands and good footwork. Speed, agility, strength and leaping ability. Pretty much all the general measures for athleticism. In fact the athletic skill sets are closer between basketball and football than they are between any other major sport. Baseball requires a very specialized skill (pitching ability and hitting a baseball) that doesn't translate to other sports. Same with hockey and the ability to skate on ice. The list of players that were exceptional at both football and basketball is pretty lengthy

Charlie Ward - Heisman winning QB that played point guard for the Knicks
Randy Moss - 2x Mr. Basketball in West Virginia, Perennial Pro Bowl WR
Allen Iverson
Julius Peppers
Tony Gonzales
Antonio Gates
LeBron James

and those are just off the top of my head.

The biggest reason you don't see guys play both sports is overlapping schedules and that the money is so high that most contracts would have stipulations prohibiting playing both sports at the same time.

Bad-Tomma, do yourself a favor and just block myinsatiableone and burno sundov. both of them are totally irrational haters who bring next to nothing to the conversation besides statements of their opinions with little fact to back it up. it will make your realgm expierence much more enjoyable if you block the haters who run their mouths and make no contribution to discussion.

^right, ban me because YOU disagree with me...let me guess, you must support the fairness doctrine and net neutrality, too, right? bad_thoma and I are actually having a discussion, albeit a heated one. If you don't like, STFU and ignore it...

As for bad_thoma, I can grant you he plays with heart on the floor. I even said I thought he was great in KG's absence last season, especially in the playoffs. And yes, he did (finally) come into camp in shape this season. But I guess I still don't see how that's enough to warrant all of the love and attention he gets. And there are still glaring weaknesses in his game, most notably his lack of lift, which is not something he can ever change.

Also, I commend him 100% for standing up for his girl, I even said that in a thread a week ago. But he put himself in a stupid situation in the first place, right before the season was kicking off after signing a new big ($$wise for him) contract...not a smart choice at all...and then to come out with these silly comments when he's supposed to be rehabbing? Again, not a smart choice...

So what happens if the offensive line say Booo.. Big baby starts crying.. come one Cry Baby will not get anywhere in the NFL.. He is fit where he is taking mid range jumpers and getting beaten on the boards..

Guy who hates contact on the boards cant play NFL where bodies collide all the time..

Well if you count tennis as a major sport then no. Football wants speed, agility, footwork, leaping ability and such. But it doesn't select for height the way that tennis or basketball does. I say Del Potro win the US Open this year and at 6'6" he moves well like a Kobe Bryant. The simliarities in body type are very clear.

Football selects for power at several positions over height. There is nothing wrong with a running back that's short low to the ground and fast. But its not so great for a basketball player. For a lineman you pretty much want someone as powerful as possible - weight not withstanding. Guys built like say Vince Wilfork are too fat for the NBA.. That being said positions like QB, wide reciever and tight end have alot of cross over skill wise with the NBA. So basically your correct.

That's a lot further than I need to go with anyone currently posting, the only person I ever had blocked is still in my signature and happily it wasn't just me, he ended up getting banhammered.

As for myinsatiableone, I understand that you don't like BBD or his game or whatever and you have every right to like or dislike whoever you want. What makes me frustrated is that I see people becoming agenda driven with a dislike of a player and jump on every chance to tear them down a little more. And sorry for calling you a half-a-tard.

For what its worth......the amount of skill-less players required in the NFL to fill a team.....I could get a gig with a team.....seriously....body armour??? Come on!!!! BBD would make it easy.......If he wants a mans game....I suggest he try AFL.....ask Sir Charles...he saw a game this year with Russell Crowe.....and described it as the tuffest team sport in the world.....

sowwy....just a sat morning rant....

No worries, man, we were just having a heated discussion, is all! 8-)

But I think BBD is the most polarizing player the C's have had since Antoine!!

Listening to Wyc Grousbeck on the Hill-Man Morning Show on WAAF and when they said "what do you think of Glen Davis saying once he becomes an NBA All-Star, he's wants to play in the NBA," Wyc said "well I guess we won't have to worry about that"
