Canman, doesn't take James Naismith to see that KG and Ray are not the players that they were two years ago.

That's just the way it is when you are on the wrong side of 30.

i'm not saying posey sucked, he was a solid bench player. obviously losing Posey and trying to replace him with a gimpy and inconsistent tony allen failed miserably. but it's not because posey was so vital, it's just because he got replaced by essentially nobody. i'd easily take marquis over posey, let alone sheed. and marquis imo is a better defender too, just because of his versatility; Posey just couldn't defend quicker SGs.

+1

This Posey being a great defender thing has been blown way out of proportion. He was a solid man defender and a very good positional defender. During the play-offs Posey had a few good stints covering Kobe, but was routinely dismantled by Lebron. He did well against Kobe because 1 Kobe was settling for jumpers, and 2 Kobe isn't the fastest 2guard with ball in his hands, these days. What was great about Posey was that he always knew where to be, he hustled, and was really clutch. If we resigned Posey we might be feeling the same way about him as the Hornets do now. The same type of issues he had in Miami before we signed him, which is why we got him so cheap.

Posey was a heck of a pickup for us - and he played great in the playoffs.. One of the more clutch performances I have ever seen. That translated into a huge contract for the guy. Everyone wins - well except for the team dumb enough to offer the huge contract.

I appreciated what Posey did for the team, and I felt it needed to be replaced if Boston was going to seriously contend again. With Rasheed, the clutch shooting and veteran championship/playoff experience is there. On top of that, he is one of the better interior defenders in the NBA even at this stage in his career. To me, that's huge. Marquis isn't a better defender than Posey, but he's pretty solid, and he's very athletic which helps on both ends. What Daniels does most importantly that Posey did for Boston is it lets Pierce and/or Allen rest more while not losing a competent player on the floor. TA wasn't healthy enough or too inconsistent to fill this role, Daniels is a good fit in this respect. I think the team has replaced what it lost in Posey, certainly enough to make another serious run at the title. I feel a healthy roster wins it this year.

And for what it's worth, Glen Davis should be better than the 2007 Glen Davis when he gets back out there.

^^^ I do appreciate someone addressing the point of the thread instead of just responding to the title.
