Is Artest Really Heavier Than Gasol, LO, MBenga & Powell?

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Mon Nov 9, 2009 12:23 pm

According to the Lakers website Artest is a beast at 6-7, 260 pounds.

He is in shape and heavier than the 7 footers. Heavier than Gasol, MBenga, Powell, LO and more.
Lots of muscle. Crazy if true. According to Gary Veti its true.

Artest is thick and strong. Is this a good weight for Artest or should he get some slim fast??? Let your opinion be heard! 8-)

Maybe the majority of his weight is in his jock strap, ever think of that?

I'd like to see him get lighter and quicker. Much like Ariza, sigh....

In the 7 games so far I havent yet seen his weight affecting him on defense, He has the knack to stay in front , do all the work before the entry pass, and box out..

Offensively he seems a bit slow on dribble penetration, thats where a lighter Artest may be a asset, that said his role on the Lakers team is more of an outside shooter and he is doing well right now...

He doesn't look fat, but he probably doesn't need to be that heavy, either. He'd see a huge bump in speed/quickness if he lost 10 or 20 pounds.

It helped Artest play big w/ Gasol & Bynum out but Artest needs to lose 20 pounds before the play-offs and get quick (unless all the extra eating helps keep Artest sane).

Artest is 6-7 and 260 and Kobe is 6-6 and 205. Kobe says that at age 31 the extra 15 pounds he lost has made him feel like a younger player. Artest is 29 and needs to lose a little weight to get that first step back. Artest can be a top 10 talent in the league.

Can you imagine having 3 top 10 talents in the league and also having LO & Bynum... its just mind boggling.

Mamba you reaching way way too far on this.............Artest is fine where he is. Just because he's 260 doesn't mean he's too heavy. If you really analyzed his game you'd know his game isn't built on speed or agility, it's built on using brute force and strength to over power his opponents.

Don't freak out about it.

We need a big Artest to stay with Pierce though.

True Ty, but it's not like Pierce has blazing speed either. Think about the offensive end where we'd have the advantage, Ron in the post makes teams like the Celtics or Cavs drop down to help double. This throws their defenses out of whack if the rotations are late.

Lately I've been on this weird wow I didn't know that kick. I was checking stats and a few #s jumped out at me.

like I had no idea Artest was so heavy
how Channing Frye (the center is shooting 50% from 3 point land and taking up to 9 attempts a game

I really think the only chink in the Lakers armor is fast pgs & injury. I love talking sports and I love new topics.

Peace
