Over here, over there, Overbay...trade rumours
Rumor of a 3 way possible deal: Bradley to Toronto, Castillo to Cubs and Overbay to Mets according to MLBTR?

First, the deal has already pretty much been shot down. Second, it is from Fox Sport's version of Richard Griffin, so of course it was shot down. And third, this is a crappy, crappy deal for us.

Yup. The last thing we need is a petulant, extremely overpaid corner outfielder.

**** your asterisk.

Extremely overpaid? Hardly. He's going to be making about 20mill over the next two seasons right? That's very reasonable. Wells is extremely overpaid. Gary Matthews is extremely overpaid. Milton Bradley has had his ups and downs and he's got a temper, but he's a great hitter. He put up .321/.436/.563 in Texas in '08. The Jays' lineup could certainly use that kind of a bat.

This trade makes no sense for the Jays who by the sounds of it are going into "rebuild" mode.

They sure could use that kind of bat. Too bad Milton Bradley isn't. There is a reason the Cubs are trying desperately to dump him.
He's hit that well once, and anywhere close to that well 2 more times in an 8 year career. It's far more likely that at 32 that he is an .820 OPS guy who plays DH or **** RF, leaving us with the worst OF defense in the majors. Plus he's **** crazy.
And it's $21 million. Or $14 million more than Overbay, who likely provides slightly more value. But I suppose you are right, he probably isn't extremely overpaid. Just normally overpaid.

Plus, he's missed over 40% of his teams' games over the past five seasons. But until he gets injured/throws something, extremely overpaid is a bit of an exaggeration.
On the subject of Bradley throwing things, DJF has a nice roundup of his greatest hits over the years, which I'll lift wholesale:
2004: In February, The Game is sentenced to 3 days in jail for allegedly driving away from the police after being stopped for speeding. In March, he's pulled out of a Spring Training game by Cleveland manager Eric Wedge for failing to exhibit the same need for speed while running the base paths. He gets traded to Los Angeles. In June, Bradley gets ejected at home plate after words with the umpire. He goes ape **** and has to be restrained by manager Jim Tracy, until finally, he lays his helmet, bat, and gloves in the batter’s box and calmly exits the field. Seconds later, Bradley emerges from the dugout with a bag of baseballs, empties it onto the grass and begins launching dozens into the outfield. Later in the season, he'll break a bottle that was thrown at him and threaten fans at Dodger Stadium with it.
2005: Milton Bradley calls teammate Jeff Kent a racist, and The Game is sent to Oakland for Andre Ethier . . . good call.
2007: Bradley, now a Padre, is restrained by his manager Bud Black during an intense argument with an umpire. Their legs somehow tangle, and Bradley spins to the ground, tearing his ACL.
2008: Bradley chases down a Royals’ TV commentator after a game because the commentator said something negative about his behavior. He is stopped by his manager, but he later breaks down in tears in the clubhouse.
2009: Now with the Cubs, The Game is suspended from the team in September for the duration of the season after blaming fans for the team’s failure to win a World Series. If only J.P. Ricciardi were still around.

**** your asterisk.

Man, I knew I was swearing when talking about how crazy Bradley is, because dude can only appropriately be described as **** crazy, but didn't realize I swore another time in my last post. I think I've been reading too much DJF this season.

And now, rumors of Overbay to Seattle. No names mentioned about who is coming back.
Can we make a Lyle Overbay trade rumors thread?

Heh, this is now it.
I'd be a little surprised if Seattle was doing more than using Overbay as leverage...Griffey is largely limited to DH at this point, so there really isn't room for him unless negotiations with Branyan break down. There has been talk that they're looking for a 1B/DH in addition to Branyan, though, but why another lefty?

**** your asterisk.

Re: Over here, over there, Overbay...trade rumours
So I'm looking over Seattle's roster and the one player who seems to be a realistic fit is Jack Wilson. Aside from the fact that he looks like he's been working in a coal mine for 30 years, he stands out because he's on a similar contract but would be a better fit than Overbay. A couple of years ago JP shot down rumours of acquiring him, but maybe Anthopolous thinks differently. If Scutaro isn't brought back Wilson could be a viable bridge for a couple of years until the team can find a long term replacement, and his bat, while pretty bad, would still be significantly better than that of Johnny Mac. I'm not saying that I'd necessarily love this deal, but it seems to be pretty fair in terms of salary and player value.

Wait, who listens to me?
I don't know that Griffey is and everyday player even at DH, but given that all three guys are lefties, it does seem likely that this is at most laying groundwork in case Branyan signs elsewhere.
And while I wouldn't hate a Jack Wilson-Overbay swap, I don't think the Mariners have any interest in that. The only other SS on their roster is the terrible other Wilson, and if they have a hotshot SS prospect about to come up, I can't find anything about it. Basically, the only way it would make sense to me is if they use the money they save on Branyan to sign Scutaro. Which would be a pretty awesome outcome, but I'm not holding my breath on it.

Very likely...I've read a couple stories over the past two days that suggest he would be quite pleased to go, as well. It sounds as if he and Cito did not get along in the slightest.

It's always pretty much speculation, but I've read that too. Seems quite likely that he was a big part of the player mutiny. Which is really fair enough.
