Official Game Thread: Chicago Bears vs SF 49ers 11/12/09

Post#1 » by SpinninHouse » Tue Nov 10, 2009 4:25 am

Coming off yet another crushing defeat from a far superior team, the Bears limp into San Fran to face the 49ers. Considering the worst running team in the NFL (the Cards) went absolutely ballistic against us, the thought of facing Gore doesn't seem too promising. I can only think of a couple teams worse than the Bears (Raiders, Rams, Browns, and Lions). This matchup will most likely be extremely ugly (possibly the ugliest yet). Gore will be entirely unstoppable and absolutely decapitate our defense. Can you imagine Hunter Hillenmeyer trying to tackle him?

49ers 56, Bears 21.

Gore 30 carries for 226 yards and 4 TD's.

Lovie's post game comments:

"You've got to give the 49ers credit. They ran the ball well today."

I actually think the Bears will win this one.

Pissed off Bears team+so-so passing offense that shouldn't burn our secondary=Bears win

Bears 24
49ers 14

The Bears will get eaten up by Gore, but their passing game isn't that good, so Bears have a chance. I think Cutler will have a good day but Forte needs to get going.

The over/under on Gore's rushing yards should be around 175.

The casual fan may not understand just how utterly awful the Cardinals were at running the ball prior to the Bears game. Per Biggs :
The fine folks at Football Outsiders revealed earlier today that the Cardinals, averaging 64.9 yards rushing per game entering the game at Soldier Field, were a new kind of bad when it came to running the football. Arizona drafted Beanie Wells in the first round from Ohio State to help prop up its running game, yet it entered the game with the worst statistical rushing game since the NFL-AFL merger. That was in 1970.

The Cardinals came to the right place, though, the spot you need to be if you're running game is in disarray. They nearly tripled their average with 182 yards on 31 attempts (5.9 average) as Wells (72 yards, 13 carries) and Tim Hightower (77 yards, 15 carries) busted off big runs.
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

We couldn't even stop the run toward the end of the game when the Cards were obviously just killing the clock.

In case you hadn't guessed I'm strongly strongly strongly predicting another loss here - we're either not good enough or have thrown in the towel or maybe a little bit of both.

It's very anti-Lovie but it's soon going to be time to get guys like Gilbert, Aromashodu, Iglesias, and Moore on the field to see what you've got in them. More Gaines Adams, too.
Turn down for what?

Vernon Davis is a moron

http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/49 ... nd%20Q%26A
The Chicago Bears might want to clear some space on the old locker-room cork board. One of their Thursday opponents, Vernon Davis, was asked about the Bears defensive front this morning, and he didn't exactly mince his words.

"I think we can destroy their front," said Davis, who is one of the 49ers' team captains. "The guys up front, I think we can destroy them. I don't see anything spectacular about their front line. Their linebackers, I think we can handle them pretty well. I like (Adewale) Ogunleye. I like the way he's playing up front. He's about the only player I like on their defensive line. I think he's doing a good job."

Davis also saw an opportunity to exploit the Bears secondary. "They've given up a lot of points," he said. "There's an opportunity for us, especially there in their secondary, for us to make plays. We just have to go out and do it. Enough talking, go do it. "

Davis later admitted that he also had respect for linebacker Lance Briggs, who nearly became a teammate of Davis' two years ago. "He can't check me," Davis said laughing. "... I think Lance is a good player. I totally respect Lance Briggs. He's a good player. He's been around before I came in this league and I respect his game. But we still have an opportunity. If he's matched up against me one-on-one, I'm going to try my best to beat him."

While the things he might be saying are true, why give a team extra motivation? What a moron.

With the way the bears have been playing, those words won't even motivate them.

not only are those words entirely accurate, but i fully expect them to materialize even more so than he predicted. he is absolutely right. we have NOBODY on our defensive line, our linebackers are a joke, and the secondary is an embarrassment. there is no evidence to support the fact that the bears will stop the 49ers in any capacity on thursday night.

like stated above, the over/under on gore's rushing yards should be 175 yards. game over by the end of the 1st quarter....

I love how Wale is the only guy on the line we're probably not going to bring back as well. We have Gaines to replace him and what has he shown so far?

Honestly I don't know enough about Gaines one way or another. But with his size/athleticism, I did hear someone mention that he'd be best suited as a hybrid LB like Shawn Merriman. but again, I'm not knowlegable enough about him to make a judgement call....

There are huge holes in the middle, because of those crappy ass blitzes.

And by Lovie's description, they blitz so often because they believe in that split second frame it will create 1 on 1 matchups somewhere, thus easier to pressure the QB, but so far, ummm no.

Another problem is that the Bears LB core are more coverage guys, than get to the QB guys. I don't think we've had a real good blitzing LB since Rosey Colvin, and I'm tired of trying to fit a round peg through a square hole. The coaching staff needs to bounce, but I doubt Lovie's going anywhere at least for a year.

It's another catch 22 game like the Browns game was. On one hand, if they beat them it's them winning against a so-so team with a bad QB. If they lose, it just proves how god awful they are.

I don't expect anything different than we've seen in the past couple games. The defense will get carved up by Alex Smith - who carves no one up. The offense will be mediocre and Cutler will throw a few touchdowns and a few picks.

I think I have to go with SF on this one, just because the Bears have shown me nothing to be hopeful about and we traditionally suck it up in SF, no matter who is playing for them.

Yeah, Lovie's idea of a blitz goes against everything that I think most people consider a blitz should be. A blitz should be to outnumber the opposition and have someone go in unabated. It shouldn't have to be used to go 1-on-1 or to make up for your line. But if that is what is getting us carved up over the middle, I saw f the blitz. Just play them straight up. :)

Will be at the NIU game again tonight mulling about the sidelines, but that game's at 5:00 so I should be able to make it back for the second half. Is any local station picking up the game? I know that's happened in years past with NFL Network games
