If run and gun wasnt established before gentry took the reigns, then he would in the coach of the year convo. the only way he is in it now is if he gets our defensive rankings into the top 10 and offense in top5

Reinsdorf acted like a douche to him and questioned his coaching style right in front of him. If the Bulls weren't quick to respond to him, he might get fired.

Reinsdorf- I said the only thing that could go wrong is if we didn't play defense, What an idiotic thing to say. Other thing is that Reinsdorf is a cheapskate and an a-hole of an owner, a lot worse than ours, who at least didn't break up Jordan, Pippen and Jackson to prove that they won the championships and not their core.

Kerrsed wrote:I believe Gentry learned alot working for D'antoni. He took the basic D'antoni mold and improved it for what our team needed. We needed a more reliable bench. We needed to keep some guys around the basket to pick up some rebounds instead of just having everyone streaking the court (The D'antoni way). Its a modified way of what we used to play and its working awesomely!
I dont think D'antoni is overated. We could have won with his system (except for a few dirty refs). NY will be a good team again. His system will work there once he gets an appropriate roster. People forget that he is still dealing with the Isiah Curse. Give it time and he will shine!

+1 on all. Mike is the Father, Gentry is the son. I'm not religious but I like the analogy. I've used it before when talking about the Nash/Amare/Marion relationship....Nash was the Father, Amare the Son, and Marion the Holy Spirit

Agreed. Brown is overrated as a coach. I think a child could run the Cavs the way Brown does. But imagine what the Cavs could do with a coach of a high caliber like Phil Jackson or Popavich.
Anyways, Coach DA had too many flaws. His lack of trust for the bench was the main killer, and it goes hand in hand with giving the starters too many minutes, especially come playoff time. If DA was still coach and we had the exact same roster, I bet we'd only run a six man rotation leaving Dudley, Amundson, Dragic out of the rotation. Gahhh, how horrible it would be if he was still coach. SMH.

I wonder if Mike will get fired though if they don't get a win soon. How sad man...he's the architect of what we've been and where we're going, but the Knicks roster, save for Gallo, just completely blows. Not his fault!

It is his fault for overplaying idiots like Jeffries, Harrington and Duhon, for saying stupid things like "Jordan Hill is behind defensively", for not playing our #8 draft pick, for not playing Darko, etc.

Who else should he play though? Is Douglas better than Duhon? As far as Harrington goes, D'Antoni needs shooters on the floor, and No Sharrington is one of the few on your roster. I don't get why he plays Jeffries instead of Darko though, I'll give you that. Re: Jordan Hill, there's no way D'Antoni was going to play a rookie. He had a tight rotation here, and young guys never got the minutes we felt they deserved. Yeah, he has his flaws(which is why we're saying Gentry improved on what he built for us here) but he's still a tremendous coach. I really hope LeBron joins your team next season because Knicks fans deserve better, and D'Antoni deserves better(IMO).

It's just not right for the Knicks to suck like this.
But .... Eddy Curry is waiting in the wings, apparently under 300 lbs.

Look, I don't want to call you out or anything, but you obviously haven't seen a Knick game in a long time - I don't blame you, any sane person would rather watch Antique Roadshow than Knicks.
Yes, Douglas is better than Duhon. And if he's not, at least he's sober on the court.
No Sharrington a.k.a. Free Candy as we call him is no shoter. He might think he is, but he's not. He kills every ball movement we have when he comes off the bench. His FG percentage is atrocious and when he's not scoring, he doesn't do anything.
Our only shooter is Gallinari, but for some reason, teammates refuse to pass him the ball, especially Duhon. There's really no excuse for him to take only 7 shots when Harrington takes 14 and makes just 4.
Jordan Hill needs to get playing time if they want their 2010 plan to work. FA's need to know what kind of players might they play with. And he needs to shut all the Marbury ballwashers up who are now whining that we didn't get Jennings.
But there's something else about D'Antoni. He just seems to have given up. Your team is playing horribly and is getting blown out by Bucks and you're standing there and joking with the referees. How can that happen?

It's true, I haven't watched a single Knicks game this season, just highlights. I was a pretty avid watcher last season though, and while Harrington's terrible shot selection and poor percentages don't make him the "shooter" I claimed him to be(my bad), I maintain that he's an offensively talented player, and D'Antoni needs guys like that. Harrington was a key part of the "We Believe" team in Golden State, so I think he can succeed in certain situations.
I haven't seen Douglas play, and I'm not too high on Duhon, so it makes sense to me that Douglas should play over Duhon as you maintain. Same with Hill, but I don't think D'Antoni will give him even a small percentage of minutes this season. That kind of speaks to how stubborn he is.
As far as D'Antoni giving up...from what I gather from reading your board, it seems as though the players have given up on him. In turn, I can see him getting frustrated and shutting down as you claim. It's a sad situation all around, and I really, really like Mike.

Well, we here on the PHX board know all about rookies getting no time or development under Mike. It's a real fault of his as a coach. There are many great things about Mike and a few not so great. Just be thankful he's not also your GM ...
I've watched the Knicks both last year and this year and it really is a shame. There is some talent there - though how either Mike or Walsh believed Duhon was a starting point guard is beyond me. But Lee, Gallinari, Chandler, - three solid guys. I have a hate-on for Nate so I can't really say much about him that's not suspect. Toney was a great pick.
My perception of Al H is maybe coloured by his play on the Warriors. I think Hughes can still be useful for you -
Why the hell is Darko DNP-CD?
The whole thing seems like a massive tank job and I wonder if Mike just can't handle it?

Dantoni was a great coach for our system - I won't diss him now he's gone. We have Lou Dudley etc
playing great roles and d off the bench - dantoni never had that
that said, I can't help but wonder what amares defense would be like if he had a coach who pushed him on it during his formative years

Even if D'Antoni had Lou and Dudley, he'd never play them so he'd never know what he had.
It's sad because NY is in a lose-lose situation. They can't win because they don't have good players because they are saving money for Lebron, but they won't get Lebron because they aren't winning and because they don't have good players. Not to mention every time they lose, it's a win for Utah since they have their first round pick.
