OT: AL Gold Glove winners announced

Mauer
Texeira
Polanco
Jeter (for some reason)
Evan Longoria
Adam Jones
Torii Hunter
Ichiro Suzuki
Mark Buerhle

The idea that Jeter has four of these awards now is absurd. The voters do realize that you don't hit with a fielder's glove right?

I can think of 5-6 more deserving SS's right off the top of my head.

The Gold Glove, year in and year out, is the worst voted on award in baseball. Simply awful.

And far too many of the older writers/voters look at just error totals... If they even look that deep.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Torii Hunter winning in CF is just ridiculous...not only did he miss a bunch of games, he graded out at or below average. Franklin Gutierrez played 400 more innings in center and UZR had him saving 27.1 runs/150 games (best at any position, by a large margin), but because he isn't a big name he really didn't stand a chance.

Hater's right, of course. The Gold Glove has become somewhat of a joke, and it's a tragedy. Defense is honestly my favorite part of the game to watch and it's too bad that they can't sort this out to a level of basic respectability.

You can't pin this one on the writers. I have a suspicion they would do a mildly better job, for instance perhaps not voting a DH as a Gold Glove 1B. This one is the coaches and managers.
