OT: Cuban looking into Dodgers

Post#1 » by Danny Darko » Tue Nov 10, 2009 7:08 pm

I want to start this here and have Phil transfer to the Dodgers forum where it's most appropriate, but:

Cuban owning the Dodgers? He certainly could spend big, but I just hate the guy and would hate to see him own any LA team.

DALLAS -- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is interested in buying a controlling share of the Los Angeles Dodgers if "the right deal" falls in place.
The Dodgers aren't for sale, but that possibility looms as owner Frank McCourt's divorce with his estranged wife, Jamie, plays out.

"For the right deal, I'm always interested, but I'm not on a mission," Cuban said Tuesday. "I'll make an inquiry like I have in the other deals, then we'll see what happens. But, again, it's got to be the right deal. It's not like the Cubs situation."

Cuban's definition of "the right deal," as e-mailed to the Los Angeles Times: "I'm not a fan of debt-driven acquisitions. If a unique situation came up where I could contribute capital to buy out a majority shareholder and gain control, with existing shareholders or note holders staying in place, I would consider it."

Thoughts?

I like his deep pockets and passion, but he is such a Douche bag. If it means bringing in the right piesces to make another deep run than I'm all for it.

That's not funny... LA would eat anyone who tried to move them alive.

I don't want to see any Dallas Dorkovs featuring Matt Kemp.

I think that it would be great. He's got money to blow and he can bring in some of these big time free agents that management hasn't delivered on.

Yankees spend 200 million a year and it gets them one championship in 8-9 years. It is not all about the money. Money does not buy a ring in baseball. It helps. Keep Cuban out of California.

meh...I say no. and maybe yes, torn. Deep pockets but can't stand the guy sometimes. But we kind of are biased, I mean if he was a Laker fan, we would love the guy. He is just very passionate about his team and am sure he would show the same pride as a Dodger owner.

he would be a great owner i think since his managerial skills have gotten mavericks to where they're at now. But as a controlling share holder hrmmm.. At least he can't be running into the play field and even if he yell his head off.. the players probably can't hear it lol!

I am torn on this.

In Dallas, he seems to have too much influence on the coach and gm which I don't think is a good thing, neither is him sitting on or by the bench virtually every game.

But, he does have passion and he does want to win.

If he can keep his ass out of the dugout and let the GM and Coach do their jobs then I am all for it. I know he will spend to bring in some of the top free agents. We sure could use Roy Halladay next season.

To me, he's the kind of owner you hate if he owned another team you didn't root for. If he owns the team that you root for, he wants to win, and cares about the fans.
