Game Thread: Mavericks @ Spurs

Post#1 » by Nolan » Wed Nov 11, 2009 7:17 pm

When: 8:30 PM ET, November 11, 2009
Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

Starting Lineups:

Spurs:
PG George Hill
SG Keith Bogans
SF Richard Jefferson
PF Matt Bonner
C Tim Duncan

Mavericks:
PG Jason Kidd
SG Josh Howard
SF Shawn Marion
PF Dirk Nowitzki
C Erick Dampier

I'm being optimistic and throwing Duncan into the starting lineup because if we want to win we're gonna need, i'm also guessing that Pops is gonna go back to Bonner after his strong performance off the bench last game. Howard, Gooden and Ross are all day to day for the Mavericks but they'll all more than likely play.

If we want to win this one we're going to have to control the boards, something we've struggled to do so far this season. The Mavericks are good rebounding team with guys like Dampier, Kidd, Marion, Humphries and Singleton and we need to keep those guys off the glass. If we control the boards we can dictate the pace of the game.

We're definitely gonna need the energy of the home crowd tonight, especially with Tony Parker most likely not playing. Yes, we definitely need Timmy to play to beat Dallas. They had an impressive win last night over Houston but I hope they will struggle on the second night of a tough back-to-back. Josh Howard might be listed as day-to-day but he is fully recovered now and is the familiar threat, we have to watch out for him. I can't wait to see a good performance from Roger Mason, he's been very quiet this season so far. I hope Antonio McDyess shuts down Nowitzki and we outrun the tired Mavs.

I have a bet placed on this game and I put it on the Mavs.

We're too shorthanded even thou we're playing at home. Plus, we're coming off a game where everything went right offensively. I don't think we can repeat that offensive performance. Defensively, maybe we'll be better, but not good enough to cancel our offense.

With no Duncan and Parker, the Mavs got the advantage on nearly everything. Shooting, Scoring, Size, Quickness, Rebounding, Passing, Offense, Defense and just about an advantage on EVERY positional battle but SG where Manu is gonna be playing only 30-34 minutes.

It was pretty much the opposite of what happened in the Raptors game..Low scoring for both sides but I felt part of it had to do with the back-to-back on the road for Dallas and thus, San Antonio visibly showed more energy, hustle, effort on both ends of the floor..San Antonio wanted the W more and got it..I liked what I saw from Bogans tonight..He showed great hustle and energy on the defensive end putting the clamp down on Howard and made himself useful on the offensive end getting open for the kick out 3's..Blair was active on the boards once again and generally knew where to be on the court defensively..Overall nice win for the guys in silver and black albeit not in the prettiest fashion by any means..

Wow.. that's the best 10 bucks I've ever lost. I'm not sure I should be mad or happy... Didn't expect the Spurs to win tonight, but at the same time 10 bucks is not a small amount of money in Indonesia.

I'll add a bit more info about the game. Jefferson was basically all over the floor and scored a season-high 29 pts. He was active on the defensive end and attacked the rim fearlessly. He had a dunk similar to the one v. Portland. Matt Bonner also deserves praise for knocking down 3 triples (including a very important one in the 4th quarter with Dallas coming within 4 pts) and being very active on the boards and on defense. Antonio McDyess played excellent defense on Nowitzki for 3 quarters before Nowitzki getting the usual foul calls and going to the line like a hundred times. And, yes, Bogans had an exceptional 1st half, with all of his 13 pts coming in it, including 3 triples.

Next game is again at home v. OKC, then we all hope Timmy and Tony are back when we return the visit to Dallas!

GO SPURS GO!
