OT: Byron Scott got fired...

Post#1 » by campybatman » Thu Nov 12, 2009 6:38 pm

Wow. All he needs to do now is wait patiently for Phil Jackson to retire, and see if the Lakers would've an interest in hiring him.

Sources said the Hornets made the decision to dismiss Scott following New Orleans' 124-104 loss in Phoenix on Wednesday night and will formally announce the move later Thursday.

It was not immediately known who will replace Scott.

Byron Scott is in the final year of his contract with the Hornets.

Scott grew up in Inglewood and played for the Lakers during his playing days.

"Obviously, I love this place. (The Lakers were) my team. I still tell people I bleed purple and gold, no matter what. And I always will," Scott said while the Hornets were playing in Los Angeles.

Scott added that it's "crazy to speculate" that he could coach the Lakers in the future.

I use to hate B Scott for beating us in those Nets/Celtics playoff series. However on another thread I post on one of the posters actually has a kidney donated directly from B Scott so I respect him now. That Hornets team looks awful though...

That's the truth. Interestingly, his firing came 2 days after his "Laker for Life" schpiel. Maybe those comments in addition to the team's bad start was too much for the owner. Unless the Hornets bring in a coach that Chris Paul really likes I'm predicting he'll ask for a trade sometime in the next year.

Chris Pauls reminds me a lot of Paul Pierce with the early playoff success then looking miserable on a horrible team. Itll be interesting to see what happens next...

Scott has to be one of the worst coaches ever in the NBA. I can't imagine how bad of a coach you must be when you can't win in NJ with three very good players (Kidd, Wince Carter and Jefferson).

Everyone keeps harping on how bad New Orlean's roster is, but I disagree and think it's not bad at all. They have the best PG in the game in CP3, an All-Star PF in West and a former #1 pick in Okafor who is putting up decent numbers this year.

If Scott gets hired AGAIN, then I'll truly believe that someone like Bill Simmons can run an NBA team better than current NBA GMs.

I expected it. Though, I thought Lawrence Frank would get the boot sooner.

It's no coincidence that David West, who no one knew anything about til Paul came around, became an "all-star" right around the same time as Paul's emergence as a star PG in this league. Emeka's stats really aren't any better than last years really. And there are no wings on that team to write home about. I don't think it's Byron Scott's fault. He is a good enough coach. It's just a terrible atmosphere there.

I would love to see Mike Brown and Jay Triano follow. Those guys are far worse than Byron Scott could ever be.

Seriously? Those squads had the worst frontcourts I've ever seen in 25 years of watching the NBA. What are you, Skip Bayless saying their big 3 is better and they'll contend??

Scott's always had pretty good success on the whole, with relatively limited talent; of course Jason Kidd and, later, Chris Paul are the main reasons for that.

When you top big guard is Mo Peterson and not the MoPete of his prime it is going to be tough to win. Add to that their best small forward is Julian Wright and you are in deep trouble. Great foundation in Paul/West/Okafor but until the get a SG and SF it's not happening.

And to me it is
1. Chris Paul who gave up on the team with all the comments he made after the rondo thing
2. the organization killed their chemistry by trading players for pennies.

To me he is one of the good young coaches (Doc, McMillan,..) and David West isn't an All-Star, I don't care what anyone says (15PPG and 6Reb with no defense isn't something special).

Lame duck coach. That thing just doesn't work. I'm glad Doc got the one-year-extension before 2007/2008.

Maybe we can sign him to back up Rondo?

Less stupid than other ideas people have floated.

I wonder how it would be if he was the offense coach for the Cs. Doc would just direct people.
