Good move. He completely lost the team this season...

I don't understand why teams fire coaches so easily. The coach needs to grow with the team and develop the system.

I think Lawrence Frank gets the boot in a few more games (losses). Even given their difficult circumstances, it's hard to see him sticking around much longer if the Nets fall to 0-9 or 0-10.

It was 9 games out of an 82 game season, I agree he lost the team for the first 9 games though

I don't think Byron Scott is the best coach but I also don't think he's the worst either. I thought he did the best he could with the team that he was given to coach. LEt's face it.....that team wayyyyyy overachieved the last two or 3 years. They should have never gotten as fas as they did but kudos to them....they did. However the made the GM fat in the head that he had a championship caliber team.....NOT. They sign Posey and the team's true colors came out. They weren't good enough.

then the GM tries to trade Chandler before trade deadline only for it to come back and bite him in the @ss. Then they trade him for Omeka (who's gonna be hurt 25+ games this season, like every year he's been in the league) and the team just imploded. You can tell Paul doesn't think the team can hang with the rest of the league.......but that's not his or Scott's fault.....that stupid management decisions.

Agreed, I always hate it when teams do this so early in a season...who's the say some of the players shouldn't be changed??
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Celtic Esquire wrote:Scott has to be one of the worst coaches ever in the NBA. I can't imagine how bad of a coach you must be when you can't win in NJ with three very good players (Kidd, Wince Carter and Jefferson).

Byron Scott never coached Wince in NJ. Scott was fired in NJ under the similar circumstances he is being fired under right now. Back to back 50 win seasons and finals appearances, team struggled in the first half, he was replaced by his assistant Lawrence Frank who helped sandbag him as a bad x and o guy. Of course the Nets never won 50 games in a season again even with Vince Carter, never made it out of the second round and haven't made the playoffs in 2 years.

I don't know whether or not Scott is a good coach but I know that Tim Floyd isn't and this is either a team getting ready to do the unthinkable, trading away a top 5 player in his prime, or a GM about to get wacked so he might as well wack the coach first and see if he can save himself. If Avery Johnson isn't on line one I would start cranking up the were is CP3 going to land threads.

Couple of things:

First of all, Emeka has played 82 games a year for the past two years -- so your 25+ missed games prediction is nonsense.

And second, I don't know too many people who don't think that NO got the better end of the Okafor/Chandler deal, and that includes Larry Brown. Considering NO nearly traded Chandler for next to nothing the previous year, the fact that they could get a young solid big who's a walking double-double tells me they made a hell of a deal this time around.

You know what you got me.....He did miss a ton of the games before the last two seasons. Not sure why i thought he didn't play the all the games the last two seasons. Shows how much i think he's a non-factor in games when he plays the C's, the only time I see the Bobcats play.

I never said NO or Charlotte got the better end of that deal. My point is that the team chemistry with the players on and off the court seemed stronger with Chandler. Is it me or they just play better with Chandler.....can't quite figure it out but they looked a lot better in games when Chandler was on that team. Probably just me....either way....It was way too early to fire Scott....

ESPN reports that Scott is one a few on a potential list to replace Jackson. Among them, Scott, Rambis and Shaw.
