Byron Scott Fired

I wouldn't mind taking a look at him as our next head coach. Just saying.

Why?

His team quit on him last year. If a coach can't motivate his team to play, then why have him around?

We quit on Rick Carlisle.

There's basically a 5-year rule when it comes to coaches. Generally they can only keep players excited about their system and whatnot for 5 years, tops, unless you are Phil Jackson, Gregg Popovich, or Jerry Sloan.

I guess what I'm saying is, I'd love to have Scott after Obie's years are up. Byron Scott was with the Hornets for the allotted time, it's nowhere near his fault.

Defensive track record:

00-01 Nets (First year): 22 defensively
01-02 Nets: 5th defensvely
02-03 Nets: 1st defensively

04-05 Hornets: 10th defensively
05-06 Hornets: 12 defensively
06-07 Hornets: 10th defensively
07-08: Hornets 5th defensively
08-09: Hornets 5th defensively

As for his team quitting on him, a new voice is needed every four or five year, but make no mistake about it, Scott would be my coach to hire. Defense wins championships, and Scott's team's always seem to be among the best.

The fact that he's a former Pacer also only adds to his appeal.

He's a very qualified candidate but there has always been an X factor about him I don't like. Maybe it's his lack of winning championships, or my hatred of the nets, I dunno.

I like Job because he seems to get pissed when we lose but when we fire him I'd swallow some crow in my social group and embrace Byron if we hired him.

Like people said he's a defensive coach that got fired, defensive and offensive minds get fired constantly for one simple reason, they have little to no concept as to the other side of the ball.

You mention Jerry Sloan, Phil Jackson, and Gregg Popovich. All great head coaches and great minds in their own way, but they understand BOTH offense and defense.

Strict offense only takes you so far, so does strict defense, but both are what wins championships and building winners do.

I think the warriors fans would be doing whatever they could to fire nelsons ass so they could hire Scott. What a shake up he could make to that team! They could actually hold a team under 100 pts for once

Yeah. He would probably scrub Chris Cohens toilet with a toothbrush for a month to get another 3 years, :D

Look at all successful sports franchises and one of the constants is continuity. The Pacers need to see how this year goes with O'Brien. If this team gets to the playoffs and wins 45 to 50 games you don't fix something that is working. In the long run teams are better served if players know they need to figure out how to please the guy they are playing for.

When we switched out Thomas for Carlisle we were upgrading significantly. I don't see the same level of upgrade going from O'Brien to Scott.

Return to Indiana Pacers
