Anyone unhappy we don't have Posey?

Post#1 » by Wolves2011 » Sat Nov 14, 2009 12:47 am

Danny made the right call on Posey.

He's averaging 18 minutes and 4 PPG. There are 3 years left on his contract at $6 M to $7 M.

If Ainge had signed Posey, we'd be crusifying him now.

Last year if KG didnt get hurt we might have regreted not signing him but at this point we have the combo of Sheed and Daniels for basicly the same money and that combo is better.

Ainge didn't give Posey the extra year. He was worried about giving Posey a long term deal. In the 2nd year of the contract we can already see a diminution of performance.

Marquise Daniels is one of the only guys that takes the ball to the hoop. Him and Pierce. So absolutely no, Posey would just be another 3 pt shooter on this team. Which is exactly what we don't need.

Ah... so Daniels and Pierce are the only ones who drive to the hoop?

FYI, 70% of Pierces shots are jumpers. 59% of Daniels shots are jumpers.

Two players have fewer. I'll give you a hit, they are both in the starting 5 and not part of the Big 3,

Perk doesn't drive to the hoop.

And everytime Rondo goes to the hoop he passes it back out and makes someone else finish the play.

Only Pierce and Daniels have the game and make the effort to take it to the hoop and finish.

Rondo and Ray occasionally do.

As for subing Quis and Posey. You can't do that. We probuly wouldn't have gone after Sheed if we had Posey today. We wouldn't need the range. We may have Varejo off the bench. Or god forbid Powe was healthy then we'd sign a backup PG instead of a big. Too many variables.

But I say we should trade Scal and TA for Posey at the deadline. With Sheldon emerging and Baby returning we'll have the depth at bigs for it. And every piece counts... also Rondo,KG, Posey, Sheed.... if the other team doesn't get beat; they'll cry from the instigators we have on our team.

Perk doesn't drive to the hoop but he does' have an inside game. Surely you saw what I meant. He isn't chucking more long jumpers like half of our team.

Rondo CAN finish at the rim. He hits his driving lay ups about 70% of the time and the tear drops about 60%. Rondo's mandate, from Doc is to find shots for the big 3. Thats what he's doing.

You want Posey back? you want three more years of 4 PPG for $6.5 million?

from pete mickeals (fr knick) blog at hoopshype

Celts all the way

The Boston Celtics are going to win the NBA. Period. They play consistent defense. But they have to find that player who comes in and changes the game like James Posey did. Maybe they have it in Marquis Daniels, I don’t know. When they won the championship, Posey had to guard Kobe and he made open three-pointers too. He’s an intangible guy, like Sergi Vidal when I played in Vitoria. Posey did the same when he won the title with the Miami Heat. Playing D, rebounding, making open threes and guarding the best player. Guarding Kobe Bryant is difficult enough in one game. Being able to do that throughout the Finals was unbelievable. When he won the title against the Mavs, he guarded guys like Dirk Nowitzki. You know, Posey is 6-foot-7! He did the dirty job. Once some guy gets that role on a winning team, they are gonna be unstoppable. I know Posey personally. He’s a great guy and he deserved the contract he got with the Hornets.

We would have had Posey for 3 more years, if we met the Hornets offer, as many advocated

. Ainge was most concerned about the 4th year. Its actually earlier than I would have thought. I would have expected Posey to be good in the first 2 years of the deal.

He was good for 1 year.....

It would have been nice for the Celtics' bench to have retained Posey. However, it's just one of those situations where a player gets a big contract from another team after winning a championship. It happens in football (Larry Brown got a huge contract from the Raiders after winning a championship with the Cowboys) and basketball.

Yep, I'm still unhappy, because I love Posey too much as a roleplayer. He was the perfect forward off the bench for our team. I absolutely hate NO for handing out the four years (which means, that I understood the decision to offer only three years and let him go for good).

edit: The Hornets are dysfunctional right now. I wouldn't read too much into Posey's stats for this season. He'd be good for us. Overpayed but still good.
