btw, parker moved up to 42 in espn's new rankings, which very obviously were compiled before he committed to maryland. :) also, tross at 39 from 25, stoglin at 88 from 71.

I am looking forward to watching the Terps almost as-much as I look forward to watching the Wiz this fall

mzaretsk wrote:jones is a face up pf so parker's commitment doesn't really help to obtain terrence's signature. imo, we never stood a chance with him...neither leslie. harris has already declared that md is not high on his list - not sure what gary's home visit is going to accomplish. but i have no insider info...just looking to make sense of the situation. i'd focus on graham, hippo and kirk and get at least one of these guys to commit.

in any case, this is a great great commit. congrats to all terps!!! stoglin and ross starting with parker off the bench will be devastating.

From what I read on Scout.com, Gary is making a big effort at Harris. I'd be very happy with Harris or Jones - it'd be nice to have a skilled PF. Hippo's a nice fall-back option - sounds like a taller Boom Osby type.

Nice article on the in-coming MD bigs. Best MD team since the NCAA champs led by JD.

I went to the game tonight, I loved what I saw from the freshman bigs. Also, Sean Mosley is the real deal, he's improved a lot since last year. He just looks so much more comfortable in every aspect of the game.

This is the most excited I've been for Terps basketball since the Dixon/Baxter/Blake team in 2002.

All I know is that if you give Gary Williams something (ANYTHING) to work with, he'll get them to play to their full potential.

 Exactly, best Terp team since the champs.

Before the Maryland men's basketball team hosted Charleston Southern at Comcast Center on Friday night, Coach Gary Williams informed Jordan Williams that he was about to become the first freshman forward to start a season opener at Maryland since Joe Smith in 1993.

The younger Williams's response: "Who's Joe Smith?"

I know MD hasn't played any powerful team yet (though Fairfield's not that bad), but the Terps look so much better than they did at this point last year. The 2 frosh bigs look like they are ready for prime time. The backcourt depth is sick, and they can full-court press 40 minutes a game. Grevis still makes a ton of mistakes, but they no longer need him to carry them. And while they need to work on their halfcourt offense, everyone on the team is a scoring threat - making them real hard to defend. If Gregory comes back, that makes their defense that much tougher, and they are going to be an ACC force this season. I know it's early, but I was so impressed by the balance of the team and how advanced the frosh are, that I can see them getting into the top 10 before the season's out.

Can Mosely D up or what? If he was an inch or 2 taller and could hit jump shots with any consistency, he'd be an All American.

i dont' know what it is about his shooting, he was good in hs, his ft% is respectable and his form looks good but shots are just not dropping. in either case, he is quickly working his way into my all time favorite terps. if you notice, mostly good things happen when he's on the court - rebounds in traffic, putbacks, contests shots, passes, steals...the whole package. if he's able to continue improving during the year like he did last season, i wouldn't be surprised if he received some honorable mentions as a sophomore.

Remember Dudley Bradley - back in the day - "the Secretary of Defense". He also came from Baltimore before transgressing to UNC. He even played some in the NBA. Bradley was a little taller, but Mosely reminds me of him.

worst possible week for us - ross didn't sign and harris to tenn. gary never seems to get the top talent; good thing he gets the most out of players like pankey.

As long as he gets multiple top 50 players, I'm happy. I wouldn't worry too much about Ross. Isn't Stu Vetter his coach? He always advises his players to wait before signing. Has Harris made his announcement? I thought he scheduled it for 6:00 tonight.

If you're wondering why MD doesn't get the best talents, this is why Maryland didn't keep Gus Gilchrest:

I hope they throw the book at those folks at South Florida.
