Tinsley signing imminent?

Post#1 » by jefe » Sat Nov 14, 2009 7:52 pm

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/nov/14/griz-negotiating-former-pacers-point-guard-jamaal-/

The Grizzlies are in serious negotiations with free-agent Jamaal Tinsley and could sign the veteran guard today, an NBA source confirmed.
. . . .

The move would signal the Grizzlies have lost faith in former No. 4 overall pick Mike Conley. It might also mean the team has little faith that Allen Iverson will return from his leave of absence.

Say it ain't so, Ron Ron. The Grizz have lost faith in Conley? :o

Why can't they just sign a backup 2 like Rashad McCants and put Mayo at the 1 with Conley backing him up? Why are they (specifically Hollins) so adamant about OJ not being a point guard when they haven't even given him a real chance?

I still haven't forgotten Phoenix last year, and I think it's egregious that they won't even try to use Mayo at the position where he has the most upside, especially when Conley and freaking Jamaal Tinsley are playing said position instead.

its a good move. Hopefully, Tinsley can play and not be a distraction. Conley is playing 6 minutes more a game than Lowry is for the Rockets, but their #'s are almost identical. Lowry has less talent on the Rockets than the Grizz do.

Conley is only shooting 37.7% from the field, 38% from 3's is good, and a 1.5 Assist to turnover ration.

He is not the top tier PG he performed like the last part of the season last year.

Tinsley would just be a fill-in PG until the Draft next year.

We need to move Mayo to the PG and work on finding a SG............. this might be the time to trade Conley and bring back AI.

McCants, or hell Buckner....... we need someone on the wings to play D.

Mayo can always slide to the 2.

I have to agree. Mayo has said he wants to play the point, and worked with Chauncy Billups this past summer to develop his skills. Trade for a bigger, defensive minded shooting guard to insert between Mayo and Gay.

Tinsley? At one time he was a fairly good guard that was a pass first player who didn't score alot of points, but didn't flourish defensively. There's not much difference between his game and Conley's but Conley has a good attitude.

I can't imagine this rumor to be true.

Seems like leadership is an issue.

They are desperate to find a veteran presence/leadership.

Is Tinsley the answer?

I think Jacque Vaughn would have been a better choice. Don't know if Jacque was interested though.

The roster needs a scoring SG off the bench. They'll need that player to accept his role.

Iveson leaves.

OJ to play more point guard.

Tinsley and Willams available in case of injury.

Iverson not returning is the only reason this makes any kind of sense.

Tinsley at his prime was one of my least favorite.

I have come near the end of my tolerance of this franchise. :(

This franchise is riddled with incompetence.

Tinsley hasn't played in a year in a half. Unless he has been working out during his long time off from the NBA. He has some catching up to do. Also how effective he will be playing @ PG for the Grizzlies?

They're grasping at straws now. How desperate can they get?

I'm sorry guys but the moves this season(and offseason) are all against everything I wanted to see this team make. Bad draft, bad trades, bad free agent signings, no direction, no team identity, no good coaching systems, no good ownership.

I could easily sit here in Vancouver and gloat since I lost my team to your city. But I actually liked where this team sat before the draft. A fairly solid and promising core group of young talent, tons of cap space, and the #2 overall draft pick. To see how badly they mismanaged everything this offseason is sad.

I seem to be in the minority here but I actually like the signing. It signals that someone has finally realized that a playmaker is needed for these group of guys and hopefully Conley will be moved soon? This team does not get easy buckets via the point guard setting up guys unless Marcus Williams is in the game. The move was necessary.

Backcourt bench scoring is now and issue.

If Iverson retires perhaps they will sign someone to assist with that.

I don't think it's that bad a move. While Tinsley may be cancerous off the court, he couldn't possibly be any worse than Iverson. On court his game is based entirely on setting guys up. If he's got game left, he'll help harness the raw talent on the team.

Return to Memphis Grizzlies
