This team has no offensive plays for Rondo!
The Celtics have plays designed for Ray, KG, Pierce and even Perkins.
But there are NO plays designed for Rondo to score. Thats intentional. Rondo is the facilitator for those guys to get good shots. His gives his teammates the ball, at the proper time so they can shoot it.
There are some who say Rondo should take it upon himself to attack the rim outside of the Celtics offense. He should IGNORE THE OFFENSE DESIGNED BY DOC and decide for himself what plays to run.
These same people criticized Rondo for being difficult to coach and stubborn, and not listening to the big 3. Rondo has repeatedly been criticized for "going rogue" by Doc, Ainge and "quietly" by teammates. Doc has told Rondo on numerous occasions his teammates don't like playing with because he does his own thing and is too stubborn to listen to Doc and the "big 3".
So now he has his contract. He listens to what Doc and the Big 3 want him to do. Feed the ball to the Big 3 and stand at the 3 point line.
If the Celtics want Rondo to go to the hoop more in the offense, the solution is simple. Design some plays for him to do that. Some of the high pick and rolls like Nash gets would work well.
Until then don't criticize Rondo. Its Doc's offense, not Rondo's.

Reason is.... duh duh duh.
Rondo is 6feet and can't shoot any shot in the NBA or a free throw.
You want to make a play that gets THAT a shot in the NBA?

Rondo is one of the best in the NBA at driving to the hoop.
Would you agree on that? If you do, you should also agree that some plays designed to help him do that would help the team. There are no plays designed for Rondo to go to the hoop. Its all improvising by Rondo.
FYI, he is also shooting his jumpers at about 40%. Thats a "workable" number.

Tell me about it. Rondo this..Rondo that...Rondo can't shoot to save his **** life..he gets fast break lay-ups, or baseline drives and lay ins..nobody is going to run a play for someone who shoots 38% FT's!!!!!!!Our offense is bad enough as it is..we start running plays for Rondo, than we might as well start running plays for Giddens and Scalabrine..

How about attack the rim like he always does? The Hawks dare him shoot last night.
10 FT's attempts in 10 games are **** pathetic (And shoot like 30%) no matter how you look at it.

Re: This team has no offensive plays for Rondo!
The reason no plays are called for Rondo is because Rondo can't shoot well enough.... it's not brain surgery. Look at the other options. Why would Doc call on him. He already blows plays at the end of each quarter as the clock winds down. Man o man.

Plays for Rondo:
-Lane's open, drive.
-Lane's not open, pass.
He doesn't have the diversity in his game (a jump shot) to command plays.
Also, this.

Re: This team has no offensive plays for Rondo!
Look Rondo is my favorite but running plays for him not a chance he has to be within 7 feet of the basket to score. He needs to do that more on weaker guards. He dessn't push win there is a big in the lane cause he can't shoot ft worth a poo so that also limits him... I'm not saying he can't score i'm saying he doesn't try enough. He's avging 8.4 shots per game I say it should be around 12 to 14. Even if it is lay ups. And when he gets fouled make 50% that is way better than 38%.
And please don't run no iso's or plays for rondo they will just put him on the line if he misses his dunks or lay ups.
Dude is a stud but a low scoring stud it's hard to see him avg more than 16 a game ever in his career.
I hope i'm wrong and he won't stop being my favorite player but i'm not going to super boost his stats or type things that don't exist.
He has increased his all star chances by chris paul and devon harris getting hurt though and derrick rose off to a slow start.

The Celtics take 75 shots per game. About 2/3 of those or 50 shots are with the starters in. So you want Rondo to "free lance" for between 24% and 28% of the teams shots, that the team takes while he is on the floor?
Currently shot attempts by starting 5 plus Wallace.
Pierce - 12
KG - 12
Ray - 12
Wallace 9
Rondo 8
Perkins 7
Wouldn't it make some sense for the Celtics to have some plays for Rondo if you wanted him to take 24% to 28% of the shots when he is on the floor?

Driving to the hoop doesn't matter if your too thin to create contact, if you can't shoot free thows, and you're prone to getting your shot blocked.
Rondo had a great post season and played way over his head. But it's likely he's the same guy who will miss his circus shots if he drives though a non open lane or if he goes to the line he'll miss the free thow 50%
So yes Rondo is fast, and can get to the hoop. But that isn't helping us score IF a play is designed for him to do that against a defense. Only if he's open does Rondo driving to score make sense.

Also 40% in what, 1 shot per game? That a statistic on a immaterial amount of shots.
One that suggests he's an inefficient shooter at that. Unless those were 3 point shots.

Are you seriously telling us you don't think this team runs pick and roll with Rondo? What the **** are you smoking? What are the "plays" you want to see? Him coming off picks for jumpers? Posting him up? What the **** is wrong with you?

I don't agree, with what you have said.
But for a moment, lets assume you are right. He can't score on drives to the hoop, can't shoot jumpers and can't hit free throws. Then why is he being criticized for not going to the hoop more?
Everyone should be happy when he gives the ball to Ray or KG or Pierce and stands on the 3 point line. He is running Doc's offense.
Wouldn't it a least be smart to at least use Rondo's play making abilities? We don't even use that with our current offense.
In the game against the Hawks, Rondo ran Doc's offense PERFECTLY, it just didn't have the result we wanted.

Last season for the full season, he shot 38%. Thats a full season. I'm hoping he improves from that this season.

The perfect play to take advantage of Rondo's driving ability would be the high pick and roll, that Phoenix runs for Nash. It totally disrupts opponents set defenses. Rondo could drive the hoop or pick apart opponents defenses with his passing.
and No, I don't see pick and rolls run for Rondo. They are run create a switch and mismatch and Rondo gives the ball back to the person who sets the pick, so they can go one on one. KG does it, and Pierce does it.
There are no plays designed for Rondo to drive the hoop.

I want all there shots to go up. And be like a top ten offensive team that we should be. And no he can roam and see when d's are sagging he can be a slasher and score 12 a game. Setting a play for him it's not needed to set anything for him when he doesn't have much to work with outside of him attacking the rim more than 8.4 times a game. Just do it more..

Rondo can't shoot. His slashing is meh....sometimes he just throw it up there and it rims out. One of these dayz the opposing team is gonna hack-a-rondo us.

Rondo's shooting from "near" the basket
2009 79% (this year)
2008 62%
2007 59%
2006 52%
He can shoot near the hoop. Do you see a pattern?
