Running back Samkon Gado, released Tuesday by the Houston Texans, told FOX 26 Sports Wednesday he has been claimed on waivers by the Miami Dolphins.
"It means a lot," Gado said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "In our profession what a player wants to know the most is, does he have value to a team. So being picked up on waivers rather than becoming a free agent is a big deal."
Though he's happy with being picked up, Gado still regrets leaving the Texans.
"I have mixed emotions because everything happened so fast," Gado said. "This is very difficult. I really felt I could have helped the team and coach (Gary) Kubiak. I really bought into his vision."
Gado has been through this sort of thing before. Last year he was waived by Green Bay and joined the Texans with the season already in progress.
"I think in some sense it does help you handle the emotions but it doesn't take away from the sting," Gado said. "I built relationships here and it doesn't make it easy to let go."
The Dolphins will play the New York Giants in London Sunday in the first regular-season NFL game played overseas, but Gado will not be with them.
"I will not be able to join the team because they are leaving for London tomorrow and I haven't had time to get my visa," Gado said. "I will be joining the team on Monday."
So Gado gets a brief vacation from the rigors of the NFL.
"My body will welcome it," Gado said.

He looked good in Green Bay but then they traded him for Morency and he fell down the running back chart to 3rd with the Texans.
