Blatche and Minutes

Post#1 » by thebossman » Sat Nov 14, 2009 1:26 am

Hey guys,

I was wondering what do you think Blatche's minutes will look like once jamison gets back.
Do you think he will be around the 20+ range or more like 10-20 range?

Thanks for your help.

Between 25 and 30 I would say... 20 at PF, the rest at C... Maybe he'll get more minutes at PF if Jamison slides over to SF for a couple minutes...

Nate, I thought it was you for a sec...

I know, right?

Blatche has our second best player so far this season and is worlds better than Jamison defensively. That beings said, Jamison will definitely play starters minutes. Figure on about 32 minutes per, with at least some of that being at SF. But it could be a lot if Flip ends up using Miller exclusively in the backcourt because the other option are so bad.

Add all that up and there's no reason for Blatche to play less than 20 mpg, with the potential for more depending on how much Flip uses Jamison as a 3. (I don't see Blatche getting any minutes in the middle since Haywood is playing well and Flip likes Oberto.)

Naw, Flip isn't an idiot. He knows damn well that Blatche is better than Oberto. I figure Blatche and Jamison will split the PF minutes with each getting about 24. Jamison will get another 10 minutes at SF, Blatche will get 6-8 minutes at C.

bossman, that's avatar theft! Hell, you didn't even have the decency to host the image yourself. You're stealing it directly from my photobucket archive.

 Nate has rocked that avatar for years, now a Canadian has stolen it. Have you no decency bossman? :)

Blatche's placement into the rotation is well-deserved, I hope that Orberto minutes are reduced. Blatche is one of the best values in the NBA today when you look at his salary.

I still think your wrong about this Nate. I think Flip really likes Foye & Miller so I dont see AJ taking any minutes at the 3 unless he totally cuts out DS which Im not against. Still, I think for the 1, 2, 3 spots it will still be a 5 man rotation of Gil, MM, Caron, Foye, and DS taking all those minutes. I think AJ will get like 33 all at the 4 except a few spot minutes at the 3 every once and awhile due to us playing huge teams. I think Wood will still get close to 30. I think Blatche will get like 20 and Oberto 13 with all those numbers varying by 2min each way each game

I don't think Blatches minutes will change when Jamison gets back. Blatche has earned his PT. Other players time will be adjusted such as; Oberto, Haywood, Butler, and Young.

Not sure about the others you mentioned, but Oberto's minutes will definitely decline. But here's another question - will Blatche have the same effectiveness if he's asked to play C? He'll be going against bigger players and will need to be closer to the basket. How will that affect his game, especially the fouls?

I think Blatche could fair well against back up bigs. Realistically though, how many teams other than the Cavs and Magic have legit seven foot true centers as back-ups? Most of them are like Blatche: tall enough and long enough to adequately play center, but more of a true PF. I wouldn't be shocked if the big rotation were to go as follows:

SF Butler 35, Miller 6, Jamison 7
PF Jamison 28 Blatche 20
C Haywood 32 Blatche 8, Oberto 8
