Grizzly Draft Blunders
Effective NOW, I am calling for the GM and Coaches Job.
Heisley needs to hire a brilliant young GM. Stop recyling GM's. I am in favor of canning Hollins, and bringing in Scott or a another coach that can mentor and push this team.
2009 DRAFT MISSES
We draft Thabeet, but we have 3 Centers on the Roster.
We need backcourt help, but we could have had:
Tyreke Evans
Brandon Jennings
Johnny Flynn
2008 DRAFT MISSES
We got Mayo, I will leave this one alone.
Wait, we blew it by drafting Donte Green and moving the pick for Arthur.
Misses
Mario Chalmers
CDR
2007 DRAFT MISSES
Mike Conley gets drafted at #4.
Misses
Thaddeus Young
Rodney Stuckey
2006 DRAFT MISSES
We drafted Gay at #8. Good Pick.
We drafted lowry at #24.
Misses
Paul Millsap
2005 DRAFT
#19 Hakim Warrick
Misses
David Lee
Monta Ellis
Potential Lineup:
Tyreke Evans or brandon Jennings/Rodney Stuckey
OJ Mayo/ Monta Ellis/Sam Young
Rudy Gay/ CDR/Demare Carroll
Zach Randolph/Paul Millsap
Marc Gasol/ Steven Hunter/ Hadaddi

Re: Grizzly Draft Blunders
I agree. What has Arthur done that warrants that remark?
As far as the topic of draft blunders, every fan of every team can in hindsight point out lots of players that went after their teams selections that turned out to be better.
But for sure the drafting of Thabeet was a poor decision and just about everyone in this forum said it beforehand.
I do think that Arthur wasn't a bad pick though considering where he was taken. He was projected higher, and the Grizzlies did need a power forward.
Stuckey was under the radar, coming from a small eastern Washington State college. Detroit simple lucked out. Conley had a much more high profile playing with Oden on the big stage against the best competition.
And as far as some of these lower picks mentioned, well that happens every year. Monta Ellis is an example. Who knew? Some teams such as the Spurs have an unbelievable track record of finding the "hidden gems" later on in the draft. It's just the way it goes. But making the most of your top 10 picks is where a good GM comes into play.
But then again I don't believe the Bucks actually believed Brandon Jennings would turn out to be this good and simple lucked out.

Re: Grizzly Draft Blunders
Looking back, I thought DA was going to be a steal. He had a chance at the lottery had it not been for the rumors about his kidney or whatever.
He isn't as polished as I thought he was coming out of KU. Once he adds some muscle and gets use to the nuances of the NBA he'll be a reliable PF. Just got to give him some time because the potential is there for him to be like Antonio McDyess (not prime McDyess, but current McDyess).

Re: Grizzly Draft Blunders
Darrell Arthur has more muscle than anyone perhaps ever played for Grizzlies and the main reason he is out right now is because he is psycho with the weights and injured himself with them. SO I don't think he needs any more muscle to be better. he just needs more skill and learn the NBA game. Physically he is one of the top already.

Re: Grizzly Draft Blunders
Two more blunders the Grizz did in the toilet was back in 2002 and 2003
2002
Drew Gooden
Robert Archibald
Who were available in first round
Caron Butler- the Grizz needed a SF at the time.
Amare Stoudimire
second round
Carlos Boozer
Dan Gadzuric
2003
Marcus Banks
Kendrick Perkins
Grizz simply pull their pants down and let the Celts go at them doggystyle and let them with Dahntay Jones and Troy Bell.

Re: Grizzly Draft Blunders
im agree on scott hiring. about the last draft picks... well, since the singing og gasol and battier on 2001. i think the grizz have only get the right pick with mayo and gay. The other players tho they may have done good, are not at the level they were expected to be. Anyway, it is not fair to make a team with all the player the grizz have skipped. it could be done with most of the teams that are not in that Playoffs level.

Don't forget Nene in 02...he would have been perfect next to Pau. Perfect I say.
What I don't get is why West tried to make Gooden a SF! I remember him starting next to Wright and Pau and thinking WTH hahaha. He went 8-8 his first game but yeah that was a bad gamble.

Re: Grizzly Draft Blunders
I hated West for not getting someone other than Gooden in that case. At the time, my preference was Caron Butler b/c we needed another SF at the time who was more versitile than Shane. Not to take anything away from Shane for who he is on the court. Mainly the reason why West passed on Butler was b/c of his juvie records as a kid from what I heard at the time. Nene, I kinda left off the list b/c his first two to three seasons have been riddled with injuries and in a way still suspect like the issue with cancer from last season or B4 I think.
As for Gooden, he should had never been a Grizzly. Sure he netted us Mike Miller eight months later after he was drafted by the Grizzlies Still Drew should had never been a Grizzly. Then the whole idea of playing him as a SF was completely asinine. The Grizz organization needed an 18 wheeler parked up their a**holes for that dumb move.

Seriously, Memphis had good picks lately except for Thabeet. Sayiing that picking a good player was stupid because 1 of the 80 players that comes after him turned out to become a better player, is just plain stupid.

Re: Grizzly Draft Blunders
I don't agree with some of the misses because those players just weren't considered at that spot with the info at that time. Tyreke is the only one that should be considered a miss for us this draft so far. And he would have been at SG, not PG.
I can agree with CDR and was disappointed they didn't take him.
I don't consider Thaddeus and Stuckey as misses, but I would consider Noah as a miss.

The funny thing about Gooden is that the season after the Magic traded for him, they too tried to make a SF out of him w/just as much success as the Grizz.

Re: Grizzly Draft Blunders
I hated that Gooden went to the Magic. At the time, I wanted Stro to be traded there to play alongside T-Mac. Maybe Stro would've been more efficient towards playing the game. Atleast he would help improve the Magic's rebounding and block numbers somewhat around that time(pre-D-12 era).
Thankfully Gooden was traded from the Magic since all he did was just play within his role. His effectiveness to me produced a little impact, but only enough to gain more TKOs' than KOs'.
