OT: Jennings a slightly taller Telfair?

Post#1 » by Zeitgeister » Mon Nov 16, 2009 2:42 am

Now, I'm not picking on anyone in this thread, as even I didn't think Jennings would be as good as he has been. He had great athleticism but didn't show much in Europe or the workouts prior to the draft. How ridiculous does this comparison look now? I know a few people thought Jennings was essentially the same as what we had with Telfair at the time.

LOL Telfair is a joke.

Man I wish Rubio was here now, setting the league on fire just like Jennings...

Man it seems like we have a lot of fans who hate Jennings. Rev I respect your opinion, I happen to disagree with your Jennings assessments, but I think you started an anti-Jennings theme on this board.

well, I think you may be undervaluing how good Telfair even is. I'd say he's one of the better playmakers in the league, he can do damn near anything he wants on the basketballcourt, I can't think of too many defenders who can stay in front of him. He just suffers from the inability to finish at the rim and he's a crazy streaky shooter. He will have a place in the league till he retires, but that's why he's going to be just a backup PG for the next 15 years.

I was definitely one of the most vocal advocates for drafting Jennings pre draft, and I really don't see what's wrong with using Telfair as a comparison. After all, as far as I remember, Telfair was always used as a worst case scenario comparison.

I knew he was talented, but I agree with Zeitgeister's post. I thought he had Telfair written all over him at draft time. He's really making me eat my words, but I really did not expect that much out of him.

The Telfair comparison was silly to begin with. Jennings was a better athlete and more skilled. When he made it through his Eurotrip under those circumstances you knew he was going to be a player.

The fact is people didn't bother to put the work in and simply said "Telfair" because he was a smallish flashy point guard. This route was particularly appealing for those who didn't like Jennings to begin with as Telfair has not panned out.

I still think Jennings is a flash in the pan. He does look good right now, but he has no leash. He also has less of a learning curve coming from europe to the NBA. I still do not believe he is the superstar many think he is. My biggest concern was and is still his attitude. He just simply reminds me of marbury too much.

He is shooting/scoring much better then I would have ever thought. Props to the coaching staff for properly using their young pg ( a shot at Coach k?)

What was Marbury doing last season? What is he doing this season?
What was Jennings doing last season? What is he doing this season?

Marbury managed to find the worst out of a good situation and caused himself and this franchise incredible harm. I find it absolutely baffling that someone who (presumably) watched as all of this unfolded could actually compare Jennings to Marbury, particularly after what transpired last season.

I don't know, he does have that Starbury feel about him. Either way, this says good things about Rubio's potential when he finally gets here.

I find it humorous that being compared to Marbury would be considered a bad thing for a PG taken at #10. Marbury might have gone bonkers here in recent years, but it doesn't change the fact that he was a very good if not great PG for the better part of a decade.

And obviously anybody who compared Brandon Jennings to Sebastian Telfair ought to be more than a little embarrassed right now. Jennings is on an entirely different level as a talent and an overall player. To make such a strong comparison you need to watch a guy play first, and given how little he played/how different the game is over there/how young he was, nobody really watched Jennings play any meaningful basketball last year.

An irresponsible comparison at best, laughable at worst.

He went bonkers in his second year.

Nice personal insults. I bet your scouting mind is so sharp that you do this as a profession? Never got a prospect wrong? Like to pre-judge prospects 10 games into the season? Good times.

Mmmmmmm. The "I told you so" thread. It's like we're on the Knicks board.

Are you trying to imply that the only type of person who could criticize your scouting ability is a professional scout?

Never got a prospect wrong?

Have I ever written off such a freakish talent without having all my bases covered in terms of watching him play?

Never. Not even once.

Like to pre-judge prospects 10 games into the season? Good times.

Says the guy who is pissed off because he is getting called out on completely prejudging a prospect before he played a single game...

Getting pissed off at the personal call-out. Most of us who have been fans long enough have missed a prospect now and again. The bassy comparison was clearly not just my own. Sure Jennings is scoring well, but it was his attitude that worried me and it still does. Kid is not normal in the head.

How do you "pre-judge" someone when they're already in the NBA? That makes no sense. Furthermore why are you complaining about "pre-judging" when you claim that:

Jennings is a flash in the pan
Jennings will not be the superstar people expect
Jennings reminds you of Marbury

btw...

(worse case---Telfair)

And the best case is Parker, another horrible comp. Unless you're pushing for an argument from authority fallacy I don't see what what your point could be.

Your posts read like a child throwing a fit because they don't know what else to do.

Wow. Good to know. Sorry to offend you. A child throwing a fit? because I disagree with a call-out thread 10 games into a season?
