Friendly Fire:Support Your Team...Or else?

Post#1 » by MilBucksBackOnTop06 » Wed Nov 18, 2009 6:49 am

I mean no harm...or disrespect. And I am not a troll. I admire your team and how your organization has build what you have here....but hear me out.

Guess what, you fans just leave your team the heck alone and get your butts out of this forum and go down to see this team! LOL. You don't need any trades! You are set!

I would die for a team like this here in Milwaukee! In fact, the Hawks because they originally were in Milwaukee as the Milwaukee Hawks with Bob Petitt I have a great fondness for.
It is my adopted second favorite team in the NBA. I read coach Woodson's plea for fans to come out and support your team and I could not believe it1
Get out there and go to some games! I would love to move to Atlanta and cheer that team on and my Bucks! You don't know what you have...
My team here just drafted Brandon jennings and we are stoked to finally be turning the corner to where your team is now! They have to beg fans to come now. But with BJ3 it won't be long until we fill our joint on a regular basis, but you all have no excuse.
Our Bucks are outdrawing your Hawks, and you have a whip here in Atlanta compared to our team here. In fact, I get ridiculed in my forum for hyping the Hawks all the time. But not any more.
I reported in your great forum earlier, you have a darkhorse title team here and have rebounded well after not drafting CP3 when you should have!
I got nothing to gain coming in here, but it is shame not getting down to see those two teams who could be battling in an NBA finals in a year (Blazers/Hawks) if the NBA was not so Super Star big market happy.
Actually if you all don't wake up, the NBA may see to it that a NBA Finals is never in Atlanta if you guys can't even come out and support your darn team that is good enough to get there!
The NBA is a business. They are in it to make money. And if you don't come out to see games even with a good team like you have....they can 'arrange' for your team to not host an NBA Finals.
Believe me, I know...I remember 2001 when were ripped off in game 7 vs the Sixers and should have won that series in 5 games!
You better recognize...

If I would live in Atlanta, I’m sure that I would hold a season ticket. Here in Hungary I have to wake up at 3am to watch a Hawks game, or most of the time I don’t go to sleep until the game is over, because it starts at 1am. And guess what, I still watch every Hawks game … or at least 70 games out of 82. This season is my first NBA League pass season, so it’s a little bit easier, because I can watch the game, the other day.

So come on guys, If you have an opportunity to go out and support this amazing team, do it! Do it also for us, for the Hawks fans around the world.

Great post...I usually catch 2-3 games every year and Phillips Arena is always off the chain....This year I should get to 5-6 games.

I live in Virginia right now, so not much opportunity to go see a game... hopefully will get to see one sometime this season.

The Hawks are 19th in the league in attendance, the Bucks 25th.

Glad to see were 9th but as evidence with this site our fanbase is just as rabid as any. Im a Raps fan but I love the Hawks team too, you guys are well built. Hope the fanbase hears Woodsons plea's. We were a lotto team and always packed the ACC, so I hope its the same for you too.

It's hard to get consistent fan base in Atlanta for reasons that have been discussed extensively on this board (transplant city, traffic, not a good sports town in general etc.). That being said,If they keep winning, the people will come.

Personally I go to about 7 or 8 games a year, and have attended the majority of the playoff games we have hosted over the past two seasons.

I buy season tickets and make it to between 30-35 regular season games a year (because of conflicts and travel I can't make them all). Haven't missed a post-season game. I've been a season ticket holder since we drafted Josh excluding my 1 year protest (cancelled my tickets) due to the drafting of Shelden Williams at #5.

Having said this I think people are overreacting to Monday's crowd for a 7pm start in the middle of a 4 game home stand. The game wasn't in the 13-game playoff teams ticket plan. It didn't benefit from Wednesday's discounted upper level tickets. It wasn't a Chik-Fil-A family night. It didn't have the bump that Fridays and Saturdays get from families bringing kids to the game. While Portland is a good young team that was on a hot streak that don't have a household name that's been marketed to the casual fans as a must see yet (Brandon Roy is good, but hasn't got the push to stardom that a late playoff run generates). And as I said it was the middle of a 4 game home stand meaning that for people on a tight budget it had to compete against other nights on the calendar more so than a single home date spaced out a little on the calendar. If you had limited funds (parking and concessions are pricey) would you bring the family out on a Monday to see the Hawks play Portland or on a Wednesday to play Dwayne Wade and the Heat?

Monday was set up to have a weaker than usual crowd and of course that's when people comment on it. Oh and that 7pm might work for some people, but if you aren't already downtown it doesn't do you any favors on getting to the game on time.

Not saying that we are normally a SRO house, but give it time and don't use that one game as the sole measure.

Atlanta has a large suburb population. I don't go to games because A. I don't have anybody to go with and B. I have no way to get down there. During the week I am in Athens I am not driving an hour and a half to see the team. On the weekends I would go, but Marta costs $4.50 for me to go down there and back. It just isn't worth it.

#1 - Atlanta is a TERRIBLE sports city. Always has been, always will be. We like college football, and we like stars. The Hawks have been my favorite local team since I was a kid, probably because 'Nique was so fantastic to watch every night. Unfortunately, we've never had anything close to the following we had in the Omni with 'Nique since he got traded. The playoff series against Boston 2 years ago was close, but that's the first time we've had a rabid crowd since the early 90's.

#2 - This city will start to back these guys if we keep it up. At least I hope they will. It's embarassing to show up for these games and half the arena is empty.

#3 - Tickets are just too damn expensive. I bought the 13 game package this year because the full season ticket package is just outrageously expensive.

#4 - They really need to push the start time back to 7:30 or 8:00. I'm still at work when most of these games start. Who watches tv or goes to games at 7:00 on a weeknight? Retirees and teenagers.
