The problem with just allowing the group to expire, is actually a deeper salary cap issue R2G. The Celts, regardless, will be over the cap this offseason. That means only having the MLE to add a vet FA. But the problem is compounded by needing to use a healthy portion of the MLE if the team wants to re-sign Daniels.

Now would I prefer to add Shane Battier? Damn right I would. But how realistic is that?

The only way to keep Daniels and ADD another rotation quality veteran, Ainge is going to need to slot some of those expiring contracts this season in a deal for approximate MLE money, thus allowing him to increase the purchasing power of the MLE.

The problem with Nocioni is his contract will not have great value until the 2011 offseason.

Darrendaye,

I am confused.

Noch's contract expires much later than 2011, it won't have much use in terms of dealing an expiring etc until....well...quite a while...something like 2014 or so.

Noch's contract is interesting as his salary actually slowly diminishes every year of the contract.

Team option for the '12-'13 season so he essentially expires in summer 2012.

Isn't this whole topic pointless now that this trade had been shot down?
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

Just to clear up some stuff in an effort to get people to stop going on uninformed rants.

Boston has about 64 mil in salary committed for next season including Rondo at about 9 mil on his extension and Pierce with a 21 mil option and 7 players undercontract. The salary cap is expected to be just under 54 mil with a tax at about 65 mil. So Boston is paying the only question is how much.

Nocioni has this year at 7.5 mil that is wash with the 7 mil that will be sent out. He then has two more years at 6.85 mil and 6.65 mil and a TEAM option of 7.5 mil. So basically when you try to decide whether Boston should go for Nocioni the real issue is whether or not you can do better in FA than two years 13.5 mil, knowing you would also likely lose Daniels if you don't have the MLE to bring him back with as was pointed out.

Sacramento wants to do the 3 way deal because they don't have the roster spots and by moving Nocioni and Thomas they can save 3 mil by moving Nocioni alone they will struggle to clear 1 mil.
I don't see the hurry from Boston's end I think that there might be something more valuable down the line. But I would expect that this gets revisited.
