Packers/Niners Pregame Discussion

The Packers at 5-4 will face the Niners at 4-5 at Lambeau.

Aaron Rodgers will be looking for revenge against his childhood team that passed him up as the number one overall pick.

I know the Niners haven't won at Lambeau in a long time (sometime in the 90's).

This game is a must win for the Niners, a loss here and their playoff hopes are gone.

The 49ers defense has been good, but are susceptible to screens, so expect MM to dial up some HB and WR screens. I expect another defensive game, unless this team stops with the idiotic penalties and awful offensive line play.

Last time we lost at home to the 49ers was the last time we played a home game against them w/o Favre.

If the defense plays like it did against Dallas the Niners will be lucky to cross midfield. If they play like they did against Tampa, Niners win.

Wednesday practice report:

Packers appear to be as healthy as they've been in some time as every player went through at least jogthroughs.

CB Charles Woodson (hip) and DE Cullen Jenkins (ankle) got what is almost regular rest for them on Wednesdays.

LB Clay Matthews stuck around after jogthroughs and went through some more drills although it appears he was limited.

LB Aaron Kampman, RT Mark Tauscher and TE Jermichael Finley all returned to practice.
Kampman appeared to be back at his starting position but Brad Jones rotated in as well.

Tauscher got first reps at RT, but T.J. Lang rotated in. It would make sense if there was some sort of rotation on Sunday. That was the plan against Tampa Bay before Tauscher got hurt.
Finley looked like he didn't skip a beat. He had a very limp but he still ran around and made athletic plays. Looked fine.

Jordy Nelson got a lot of work on returns with Tramon Williams.

WR Greg Jennings may still be bothered a bit by what ailed him on Sunday (knee contusion).

I don't understand why we're trying so hard to start Tauscher. His performance against Tampa Bay was the worst at right tackle since Barbre week 1. Lang has been our best run blocker at right tackle and as steady in pass protection as we've had at either tackle position all year. Not to mention he's our future at that position. I also hope we find ways to let Kampman stick his hand in the dirt and get Brad Jones on the field some more. Speaking of, how far off the radar has Jeremy Thompson fallen? He was the flavor of the week in training camp and it seems he wasn't even in consideration to play for Kampman...

Glad to hear Finley will be back. I wonder how much of Havner we'll see now that Finley is back. It probably still is Lee-Finley-Havner. My guess is that we'll only see Havner on special teams and passing plays with 2 TE's, otherwise perhaps a few plays here and there to rest the other two.

My friend from home called me this week, and says "We're going to the Packer game this weekend. Happy 21st. (which was back in July)" Big Surprise. It'll be the second game I've been to in my life. The first and only being the "We're going to take the ball and we're going to score." Hasselbeck fiasco. Hopefully Frank Gore scores two TD's in a 35-14 Packers win. That would be amazing.

Both QB's had a pretty good game. I briefly remember this one b/c the Packers were playing very well against what would be the soon to be back to back Super Bowl champs.

Hopefully Frank Gore scores two TD's in a 35-14 Packers win. That would be amazing.

I am not taking a shot at your Skones, but this is why I am really starting to sour on fantasy football. The team loyalty is really a thing of the past. I understand people still want their team to win, but I hate when people are like 'well I have Adrian Peterson on my fantasy team so I hope he gets a couple td's and 100+ yards, but the Packers still win.' Um no, I want my team to shut their a**es out. I mean I'm in fantasy and usually try to not start guys against the Pack, if I do, I could care less if they don't score. Like Romey says, if you win at fantasy football, you're really a loser b/c that means you're spending too much time on FANTASY football.

Yeah, this is my last year playing fantasy football.

Every time I go somewhere to watch a Packer game now, no one even talks about the game. They just go on and on about their fantasy team, pissing and moaning about how they are going to lose, how their players aren't playing well... It got extra annoying when they start to root for guys to score against the Packers in close games or for certain Packers not to score because it would hurt them.

I used to really like fantasy football, but it's just got to the point where it is annoying to listen to people talk about it.

I'm cheering for neither team.

If the Iggles win, then the Bears have pretty much been "officially eliminated" and I can watch them tank the rest of the way.

If the Bears win, well that helps our playoff prospects a bit. But with the Bears having another matchup with us, if they can keep the pace with us, I don't know if it is that big of a deal if they lose. Just talking through that made me not care that the Eagles might win because I'd like to have the Bears dead in the water when we see them in a few weeks. Don't want that added pressure that a win against us puts the Bears back in a playoff spot.

Notes

Mike McCarthy on Wells: "He had some symptoms in regards to a concussion that was reported to the medical staff yesterday. So we're obviously being smart with him."
McCarthy would not say when the concussion occurred.

Barbre sprained an ankle today in practice. Jolly's "back locked up on him yesterday." Jolly said it was minor and he'll be fine.

On new quarterback Mike Reilly: "Very athletic quarterback and did some good things in Pittsburgh during the preseason. So we'll have an opportunity to try to get him acclimated to the way we do things here. I'm glad he's here."

On Brohm choosing not to stay: "I had a chance to talk to Brian about it yesterday. He had an opportunity to stay here. I respect Brian. I thought Brian was improving. I just want to wish him the best, as he has moved on to Buffalo."
