Who to draft

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Sun Oct 28, 2007 8:12 pm

Now that our season is over it is time to talk about the upcoming draft.
Angelo is an idiot and will probably pick defense in the 1st round but we need to draft a QB/RB.

My wishlist:
QB
1. Matt Ryan Boston College
Image
2. Andre Woodson Kentucky
Image
3. Brian Brohm Louisville
Image
4. Colt Brennan Hawaii
Image
5. Dennis Dixon Oregon
Image
6. John David Booty USC
Image

RB
1. Mike Hart Michigan
Image
2. Darren McFadden Arkansas
Image
3. Steve Slaton West Virgina
Image
4. Jacob Hester LSU
Image
5. Ray Rice Rutgers

Matt Ryan is going to be a star in the NFL but he is probably going to go early in the draft

Who's to say the Bears won't be picking early in the draft?

I wish the NFL could trade offensive coordinators.

I fixed up this thread a little bit.
These rankings are from what I have seen this year watching college football.

draft a RB. we can't stick with what we have right now. unless we can nab michael turner out of S.D. via F.A., and perhaps trade a few pieces to move up in the draft to get a QB. Someone anyone has to be a sure upgrade at QB than what we got. i just dont want to wait another 20+ years for another super bowl appearance or 10+ years for another playoff appearance.

draft somebody who throws a lot of interceptions and give him 2 years. then at the end of 2 years, repeat.

We're set at cornerback... set at linebacker if Briggs returns... set at defensive line, could use a little depth at DT... set at tight end... set at the special teams positions, and that just might be it.

We need a quarterback. We need safety help. We need a running back. We need an offensive line. We could use better WRs although that might not be a glaring hole.

Also could use an OC.

Other than that we have a pretty solid offense

If we can just get a QB that starts for just 5 years and has average/above average seasons, he'd probably become the Bears all time leading passer.

Likewise, if we can get a WR to have 5 good seasons he'd be our all time leading reciever.

Tebow can't come out.

Matt Ryan or Woodson or Brian Brohm.

We basically need to have an offensive fire sale. Grossman - gone, Benson - gone, Moose - gone, Berrian - I'm not sure yet.

Our problem can't be completely fixed in the draft. The Bears need to spend big in free agency. I like Michael Turner - throw money at him. QB wise the only keeper in FA is Romo - and I'm sure the Cowboys will keep him.

Bryant Johnson in Arizona is a promising WR and might be worth a look.

The biggest improvements need to come with our aging line. The Colts have a couple guys we may be able to pry away with good money.

Bottom line is that with our core, we can't wait on rookies to develop. We need to add some good veterans to the mix.

Honestly guys, I want a QB and then a real good WR. Then wait one or two years for Noel Devine to come out and nab him.

Something like
Mario Manningham
Matt Ryan
Noel Devine

would be pretty sick.

Yeah, I'm willing to get Cedric Benson/Adrian Peterson/Adam Archuletta/Mike Brown/Dusty Dvoreack(sp?)/ one more year to get it striaght but if they don't break out/keep injury free then we need to make some moves.

Nothings wrong with Peterson. He had a fumble in week 1 but has produced whenever he can.

This couldn't have said it any better. We really can't wait on a QB to develop when, IMO, the Defense is still pretty good (when healthy). If we get a rookie QB and throw him into the fire, what makes you think he'll get it going right out of the gate? I rather put together a package that's suitable for a proven vet to upgrade the QB position, and draft a RB (or get one via F.A. by opening up the wallets), retool the safeties and offensive line via the draft. Right now, I don't see much changing regarding the NFC. Its still going to be a weaker conference. We can probably repeat 2006 in 2008, with the difference of looking better offensively if we get a proven QB. Otherwise, I can see us be a 0.500 with a rookie QB. Maybe I'm just impatient.

Exactly how much money do we have to spend on a first round qb, veteran o-line, resigning briggs, and michael turner. Can Urlacher restructure his deal already, he looks like a big goof playing MLB for us.

We've still got the core of a good team here but we need to make some touch ups:

- Sign RB Michael Turner.
- Sign a good offensive linemen to play anywhere but C.
- Continue to develop Devin Hester as a WR alongside Berrian.
- Draft S Kenny Phillips in the first round.

...then we might be able to get back in the hunt.

If those were the only two offseason moves, I would be extremely happy. Turner would be our #1 back, and he is an Illinois native. Phillips is one fine player. He would definitely strengthen our secondary.

Turner has averaged 6 yards per carry in his career backing up the best RB in the NFL, but is anyone else scared he might falter as a #1 back? I don't know, with our luck I kinda wouldn't be surprised.

I'd love that move, though. Make it happen.
