Suns Defense - One Writer's Opinion

I think he's pretty much nailed it. The Suns, barring a massive overhaul of personnel and coaching staff, will never be a great defensive squad. thserkin has been the most eloquent and persuasive on just how "improved" they really are - this writer doesn't disagree. he just thinks that we've maybe hit a place where we're, finally, just good enough defensively that we can get crucial stops. And therein lies the difference.
I thought we might want to bat that around a bit ....

I remember when I used to want the Suns to play defense and become a grind it out team...I guess I'm just used to the way they play now where I enjoy run-n-gun more than teams playing defense and grinding it out.

Even though I'm not a big fan of Nash I hope the Suns could get another PG like him that runs a team with the run-n-fun style in the post Nash era. Also a coach that let's his team do it (since Gentry will be over 60), would probably have to look outside the league for that though.

Yeah the Suns showed me how boring playing defense is, I don't want to see any defense I want this team to keep running!

biggest piece of trash article i have ever read! You could feel the racism and hate oooozing out of it! The writer should be ashamed!

So based on his opinion you have to be a mean person to do good in basketball!

WOW just wow!

Not to mention I can't respect an opinion writer that has TWO favorite teams. Philly and LA? Could they be more different?

The first article is quite good, but I love that most people are giving the team no credit at all and not recognising that they have taken steps forward in defence. Hopefully the team can keep proving everybody wrong.

Ah yes, that second one - Bleacher Report seems to have a high percentage of this kind of crap. I guess they have a hard time getting content. This piece doesn't' deserve discussion, IMO.

The Suns are definitely better than they were last year, and yeah, they're back to the point where they are sufficiently competent on defense that they can win close games. They don't have the individual defenders that they had in 05 and 06, and that's the big difference between the team's D then and now, but they're doing OK. From what I've seen, I'm starting to get a feel for this team as a 53-win club that can lose a deep series in the second round.

If we get to the 2nd round I'll be happy. If we get to the WCF, I'll be ecstatic. If we get to The Finals, I'll weep. If we win The Finals, I'll go streaking.

I'd be pleased with a second-round loss as well. Reaching the semis is an achievement. In the case of my hometown team, it's the best we've ever managed, for example, so it's definitely nothing to sneeze at. This team doesn't strike me as a contender and I do believe there are several superior teams in the West that will prevent them from making the WCFs barring some event of significance that opens the way.

But hopefully, they finish more in the 3rd to 6th range, which gives them a shot at a competitive first round series and then a chance to maybe go after the 2nd seed instead of the 1st seed (if they finish 3rd or 6th and win the series, they go to the winner of the 2nd/7th matchup).
