Iverson in Green?

Post#1 » by Octolor » Thu Nov 19, 2009 4:26 am

There are rumors that he may end up a Celtic.

According to Comcast Sports Tonight "many players (in the NBA) are afraid of Iverson coming to Boston."

Donny Marshall said it could put the Celtics over the top and that AI's contribution would be "ten times more than Stephon Marbury."

I think it would be unbelievable to watch.

And as Marshall said, coming off the bench for the Celtics is a lot different than starting in Memphis.

Personally, I don't think he can be the "good soldier" like Marbury was.

At the vet min, I wouldn't be against it. I think he is a punk. but, I also think he can help us off the bench. If he is willing to except a bench role, Then I wouldn't mind it. The guy is perfect as a sixth man.

But, I doubt it happens. Sounds like an idea rather than an actual rumor.

This is an idea and not a rumor. I don't see AI coming here. Plus the Celtics roster s full.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

I know he has a kangaroo loose in the top paddock.....but I like the idea....Doc is a verterans coach....he has a shot at a title here....he would get some decent minutes....he had solid vets about him that he would have to at least respect the game of

I like the idea!

This is bound to happen. I just hope AI accepts his role and helps the Celtics get banner 18.

Just in case the rest of the league didnt hate us enough already...lol

on paper... its perfect, he would do wonders with the second unit moving between the 2 guard spots with marquis... we have veterans and a players coach to keep him in line and he gets a shot at a title

unfortunately, as someone above said i just dont trust the guy to play the good soldier like marbury managed to (even if the level of play was 10 times better)... you woulda thought he could just shut up and play in memphis... pretend to mentor the kids and maybe land on a contender next season

he lasted 3 games...

3!

he would really only get 20 minutes a game here and we would end up with the same issue memphis had, a pouting AI trying to get his.. and probably a pissed off lockerroom

have to say no to AI, even as one of my favourite players in recent years, i assume the concensus would be about the same

I say why not, its a low risk (signed for vet min, could be cut anytime) high reward (plays great and helps us win a ring). I didn't like his attitude in Memphis, but wasn't he a better option for them winning, so why keep him on the bench? I have always thought of him as a whinny, thuggish, selfish player but if he can help us win, I'm all for it.

This would honestly be a steal no matter what you say, FOR THE RIGHT PRICE.

I would proudly, again, call myself a Celtics fan no matter what people say about me if this happens :)

Agreed. He's a loser and a cancer...**** him, don't bring him here...unless you want to torpedo the team this early in the season!

I think thr right deal might be able to be made. A deal with him and Doc where he gets X minutes and perhaps the deal that he can stay in if the second unit is doing well. I think if we got him, giving him big minutes would be a good idea, save Ray and PP a bit.

Nah, I think he's going to the Knicks, where he can have all the shots he wants in D'Antoni's offense.

The "just shoot the ball dammit" offensive system of the Knicks is perfect for Iverson. Also, the no interest in winning in order to win the draft lottery is perfect for him to pad his stats.

Unless someone has other information, Ainge showed no interest in Iverson in the off-season. Now that Iverson has pulled another brain fart from the standpoint of being a team player, I really don't see any interest being shown to him at this point.

I just don't understand what is going on with him. I like AI and always have, he is not Starbury or anything of that vingtage at all, if you think that you don't know basketball. But I just don't get where he is at right now.

Is this a situation were AI is only going to be happy and effective with the chance to be the man and score 30, if it is then he either has to go overseas or hang it up, I can even respect but it that means it is over. Now on the other side everyone not just AI was totally pissed about how the situation in DET was handled, they don't seem to be mad at each other but mad at the coach and he got canned because he probably told everyone what they wanted to hear and then did none of it. Then there is this Memphis situation were they were willing to give him some money which is what everyone wants in the off season. I don't pretend to know what was happening there but he was actually playing pretty well in short mins. My guess is he went in to it with the idea he was going to kill it for a half season in Memphis and either help them make the playoffs or get dealt to a contender that way he could get paid and take a shot to win a championship. Then he realized that no matter how he played he was just a side show and it wasn't about winning games he was going to play his 20 off the bench and help the Grizz not embarrass themselves and sell some tickets. All he could hope for was to get waived in time to catch on with a playoff team in that case just give them the money back and get waived now.

I love AI but in the end there is no I in team and there is a big one in Iverson and I just don't see how it will work in Boston or maybe anywhere else anymore.

Nothing to lose by signing him. If it doesn't work, you just get rid of him like Memphis did.

I got to admit I would be for it. AI can still play from what I have seen. You can't pass on a talent like that.. He would of course anchor the second unit and IMHO likely play in clutch situations over Rondo as AI can hit a free throw..

As for the personality issues - don't underestimate Doc Rivers. Doc could convince AI to be a team player as that would further his legacy more then another big scoring year. Doc as a former african american PG with a very smooth and outgoing personality is easily the best in the league at this kind of thing.
