Reason why Brook is taking jumpshots

Post#1 » by crazykidd2k6 » Thu Nov 19, 2009 4:58 am

With some of his best outside shooters in street clothes, Lawrence Frank has sent Brook Lopez out to the perimeter. Now, the question is he going too far too often? Lopez would like to get closer but his coach would like to have him spread the floor. “We were having a hard time scoring, so the thing is you just want a balance between paint shots and jumpers,” Frank said.

He should be sealing his man within 6 feet of the goal...

Wow, and I thought Brook was just settling due to frustration or something.

Heh, I figured Frank was probably sticking him out on the perimeter in order to clear up the post a bit but meh hasn't been all that effective considering he's been missing most of them!

I really don't understand this logic at all... Who is he spreading the ball to if Lopez is outside? Trenton Hassell? Is it to Get rid the Bigs downlow? cuz that would never going to happen just because they will still rotate in for help. And if the bigs rotate in it will be hard to swing out to give it to Lopez. Also Lopez don't make 90% of his shots outside so its still bad.

I thought that was obvious when Carter said after the Orlando game that Brook was "playing the four." He might be guarding the five, but don't kid yourself, he's been playing the four for a few games now.

Brook does have mean jumper though. He´s a great FT shooter for a big though, and he would benefit more getting to the line, and by doing that he needs to be in the low post! Cmon Frank!

I prefer the slogan: Let Lawrence Leave...it sounds better.

Lopez has been moved out for multiple reasons, all having to do with his teamates:

A high screen and roll starts higher now with Alston instead of Harris.

CDR, T Willliams and Hassel can't shoot the 3 and the team can't do a traditional post up because the defense will simply sag off the shooters (this is what was happening to Lopez before the offensive adjustment).

No one on this team knows how to throw an entry pass to Brook in the post.

I don't have a problem with Brook playing further out with the players we have now. He has the jumper for it. He is only missing shots because he is obviously tired and he's fading instead of going straight up. Unless Lee, Simmons, Hayes and Dooling all return and start shooting the 3 we need to make a trade for a 3pt specialist or risk hindering Brook's development.
