Would we want Gomes or Brewer if he was available?
Some on the wolves board (including me) think Gomes will be traded at the trading deadline to open more cap space. Gomes is signed for multiple years, but only $1 million of his salary each year is guaranteed. [But the team must "renounce him" by June 30th 2010, to limit the financial commitment.
Would we be willing to give up "expirings" to get him?
Another guy who could share the same fate is Brewer - Brewer is signed for this year and next year.

The wolves GM wants to clear $20 million of cap space for next summer. He needs to give up $8 million of contracts for "expirings".
So its not a question of talent, but say scal and tony, about $4 M of expirings.
Same for Brewer, by the way, his salary is about $4 million. He would add alot of athleticism and high energy, but he can't shoot worth a ****. But with our offense, maybe thats a good thing.

I'd like either actually, if just for expirings.

Brewer would be the better target for sure
He could turn into an amazing defender here, and would be a good piece to add to Rondo and Perk long term

I love Gomes, so I want him. He's like Nocioni, but on a much better contract.

How do you beat a team of Rondo, Perk and Brewer? Easy - just put 5 guys in the paint.

Wolve's fans were talking about dealing Sessions for expirings as well. I'd be thrilled if we could deal Scal, TA, Giddens and a pick for Gomes and Sessions. Sessions would be a great backup to Rondo, he's not a great shooter (especially from three) but he can run the offense which frees up Daniels to play his game. Gomes would give us a great backup at small forward.
PG Rondo/Sessions/House
SG Allen/Daniels/House
SF Pierce/Gomes/Daniels
PF KG/Baby or Williams/Baby or Williams
C Perk/Sheed/Williams
That's an amazing team.

Sessions and Ryan? Man, count me in on that as well. That would give us the backup point guard we have been begging for, and would bring in a quality player to help out at the 3 spot, who is a fan favorite and a team player (who can also hit the three ball). Do a deal like that, and we are the best team in basketball, hands down. Nobody else is even close.
Getting Sessions would be like geting a "Rondo-lite", to replicate a lot of the things that Rondo does, when he isn't actually in the game. It would provide a much greater deal of continuity to our offense and defense. You could actually run a point guard oriented offense for 48 minutes. I think that he is a on a reasonable contract too. It sure would be nice to not have to worry about our point guard situation for a while, with double barrell studs at that spot. Ramon can even play some time at the 2 spot.
Ryan gives us a guy who can swing between the 3 and spots off of the bench and knock down a three. He's a bad fit as a starter, but a GREAT fit a bench player because of his versatility. You want your starters to be REALLY good at their main positions. A bench player who is decent a MULTIPLE positions helps to build a short, manageable playoff rotation. Ryan would be on a 9 man rotation without much of an issue. Such a deal would be a MAJOR coup for us.

Re: Would we want Gomes or Brewer if he was available?
Ramon Sessions $3,670,667 $3,964,320 $4,257,973 $4,551,626(PO)
Ryan Gomes $3,867,500 $4,235,000 $4,602,500 $4,970,000(PO)
brian, jr, and tony for those works in the trade checker but session can't be traded until dec.
and I don't think they would take that.
however I think they would bite on glenn davis tony allen brian scalabrine for sessions and gomes and nathan jawai and that works in trade checker..
lots to consider.

I doubt that MINN wants to move Sessions as it is they are holding him back. But the other two is much more likely and frankly I would take them both and figure it out along the way. I say both or either.

only expiring contracts would work. Thats the point to clear cap space for next summer.
so no glenn davis.
I also strongly doubt Sessions is dealt. I think its Gomes almost guaranteed and brewer. Since before pre-season both the GM and coach have said they - Gomes and Brewer - had "something to prove" if they wanted to stay with the team. They haven't proved it yet.
The GM, Kahn has also said that he wants to but about $8 million more from his salary cap next season. It all fits together.

Re: Would we want Gomes or Brewer if he was available?
Brewer is a walking disaster offensively, misses open shots/can't create for himself/turnover machine. STAY AWAY. His defense is nice and all, but not nearly good enough to warrant how awful an offensive player he is. Watching a season of the Wolves force feeding him minutes made me want to die. Remember how much you all hated watching Gerald Green on defense? Multiply that by 10 and that's Brewer on offense.
Gomes would certainly be a nice add if he could be had on the cheap, though I'm not sure he really gives the Celts anything we really need...couldn't hurt to have around though.

Re: Would we want Gomes or Brewer if he was available?
Brewer is a decent defender who could be a great defender. He is very high energy and 3rd in the league in steals. Very disruptive on defense lots of defections.
The flaw in his game is shooting and also driving and finishing. His offense is "unfinished". Might he learn some day, maybe but by the draft deadline my patience would have run out if things haven't improved.
I want to see the wolves trade him, because the biggest need on the wolves is shooting and by getting an expiring contract it positions the wolves to get a top player in free agency.
But for a team that has shooting, but is "old" and "needs energy", he could be a very good fit.
He would help on defense. If we could get by with a player on the 2nd unit who wouldn't shoot much but would be disruptive to opponents, he could be a fit.

Re: Would we want Gomes or Brewer if he was available?
I'd take Sessions. I don't really see the Rondo comparison except for the fact Sessions doesn't shoot the three ball well. Gomes would help some but honestly he plays the same position as our best player so his impact is mitigated..
