Lets Say Pekovic gives us an ultimatium (trade Love or Al)

Post#1 » by revprodeji » Fri Nov 20, 2009 12:24 am

Pekovic is good. Damn good. He is also a young asset.

lets say he agrees to play, but only if he is promised the starting spot. He is worried about Love/Al.

What simple trade would you do this year (before draft) moving either Love or Al and making way for Pekovic?

I think we should trade Pekovic's rights then. seriously, why would we want him at this cost when he basically already have what he could bring to the table? yes he is a brute force in Europe but I'm not sure if he can do the same stuff in the NBA.

also, since when is it acceptable that a player who's not even on our team yet can force the FO to trade one of our two best players? if he really wanted to play in the NBA he should either STFU or quietly ask Kahn to trade his rights to a team that could use him.

that is supposing that he'd really ask Kahn to trade one of Love and Jefferson.

Trade Al for a big defensive center/stud wing who can shoot. Pekovic doesn't seem like a great rebounder to me, but he's a beast in the low post. He's not a great defender either is he?

I imagine we would then trade Pekovic to the highest bidder.

Depends on what you can get for Al vs what you get for Pekovic, or Love for that matter.

Trade Pekovic.

[Note: I'm like Kirk I won't play in no win scenarios....lol]

but seriously, I wouldn't trade Jefferson or Love to play Pekovic, but based on last years production, I'd have to keep Al.

Jefferson was by far our best player last season.

Jefferson was better than Love at PF and Center...Jefferson's adjust plus minus was 13 points higher than Love.

comparing Jefferson and Love:

He was also better at Center than PF

In 2008-9 Jefferson:

'Offensive PER at Center: 26.3
Defensive PER at Center: 19.2

His PER value at center: plus 7.1

It was lower at PF

Offensive PER at PF: 17.9
Defensive PER at PF: 13.5

His PER value at PF: plus 4.5

888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888

Love in 2008-9:

Offensive PER at Center: 22.6
Defensive PER at Center: 19.5

His PER value at center: plus 3.0

It was lower at PF

Offensive PER at PF: 17.6
Defensive PER at PF: 19.1

His PER value at PF: minus 1.6

000000000000000000000000

Jefferson adjusted plus minus in 2008-9: plus 5.04

Love adjusted plus minus in 2008-9: [minus 7.63]

I believe both Jefferson and Love are still getting better. If it came to an ultimatum from Pekovic, I'd trade him and if that didn't work, I'd let him stay in Europe. I think both Al and Love will be much much better than Pekovic.

Love was what, 19? And a rookie? Jefferson is what, a 5 year vet? I'm not sure comparing them statistically head to head is the best barometer for who to keep long term.

I would argue -- what Love did as a rookie is most impressive. Also consider who the better fit is for our offense going forward (passing, shooting, decision making skills).

Love would also be a better fit next to Pekovic or Al, than Pekovic would be to Al.

Not trading Love. No way, no how. I'd be looking to trade Al independent of Pek, but I'd be looking to trade Pek independent of this hypothetical demand too. Everyone not named Jonny or Kevin has the potential to go.

If the decision came down to keeping Love or Jefferson, I think it's pretty safe to say we'd keep Love. Jefferson should bring more back(hopefully Granger or Iggy), and Love fits the system better.

I'm on John Wall denial mode right now, so I'm hoping for Evan Turner. By that I mean I don't think there's any chance that Stern will allow the #1 pick, thus a sure fire star, to go to Minnesota.

Joel Przybilla opts out and we target him and Ronnie Brewer in free agency.

C - Pekovic/Przybilla
PF - Love/Hollins
SF - Iggy/CBrewer
SG - Turner/RBrewer/Ellington
PG - Flynn/Sessions/(Rubio)

No chance Indy trades Granger for Jefferson, though, unless Big Al starts blowing things up, besides his knee, of course. Iggy is probably a more fair value, but with Brand and Speights, I can't see them being interested in Jefferson. So honestly, no friggin clue on how that works just yet. But we should be able to get Ronnie Brewer and Przybilla with our cap space.

Maybe something around Jefferson/Gomes for Iguodola/Speights? Saves Philly a few bucks if they cut Gomes right away. They can go with a three man rotation of Brand/Jefferson/Dalembert in the 4/5. Yeah, ok that would need Minnesota tossing in picks. :-)

How about a slight modification to one that's been tossed around? Jefferson/Rubio/Gomes for Granger/Hibbert/Dunleavy. Assuming Dunleavy comes back and shows he has a little talent still, without blowing up?

Then maybe a sign and trade with the Blazers or Jazz to get the above mentioned Ronnie Brewer and Joel Przybilla, using Hollins. Both teams will need an active back-up C.

C - Hibbert/Przybilla
PF - Pekovic/Love
SF - Granger/CBrewer/Dunleavy
SG - Turner/RBrewer
PG - Flynn/Sessions

Rambling, I don't know.

Love is 20, Al is 24. Al's production per minute played has been about the same from his rookie year till now (only shot attempts have increased)

0000000000000000000000000000000000000

Jefferson's per 36 minutes stats

Stat pts reb

2005 16.3 10.7 (shot 53%)
2006 15.7 10.1
2007 17.2 11.7
2008 21.3 11.2
2009 22.7 10.7

His career FG% has been right around 50% every year, so years when he scored more, he had more shots.

His defense has improved, but his offense was always there.

88888888888888888888888888

Love's per 36 minute stats

2009 15.8 12.9 (but only shot 46%)

888888888888888888888888888888

To be clear I want to keep Jefferson and Love. I think both will be allstars.

Pekovic can "pound sand". As far as I'm concerning he's trade bait.

If Pekovic is really a comprible talent to Love or Jefferson and we can sign him for MLE or slightly more, then I'd do a deal involving Love and James Harden. I'd probably do an Al or Love deal to get Iguadola or Granger as well, but the Harden deal seems more realistic.

Pekovic is a top European center, who has average athleticism quickness/jumping (compared to the US pro game), limited passing, limited defender and has a mid-range shot. He does have offensive skills near the hoop, and good hands, but if Al is a 10 in the low post and the average NBA center is a 6 Pekovic might be a 7.

He basically has a big, strong, tough body and works hard - on offense and defense - close to the hoop. He has value as a back up center for a team that doesn't need athleticism like we do. He might be able to start for a team, but not a championship caliber team.

I think the Sixers would accept Iggy for Al. Dalembert will be gone and Brand is declining.

Speaking of Dalembert, they would prolly make us take in his ugly contract:

Min gives: Al
Cardinal
Blount
Gomes

Phi gives: Iggy
Dalembert
Kapono

Maybe have Philly throw in a future pick.........

...Hopefully we could just do a straight up Al for Iggy trade.

I'd trade Pekovic.

I don't think Pek will pan out to be as good as Al, but there is more hype there so we could possibly get more value. And I don't mean overall value, I mean marginal value (I think, Econ isn't my forte).

We might be able to land a higher pick or a decent backup 6th man/starter/role player for Pek.
With Al the absolute best we could to is "almost all star" who probably isn't anything more than a 2nd fiddle on a contender at best.

I just think Pek has that "what if" factor that makes him more exciting, thus netting us higher marginal value for him.

Another thought, what if Derrick Favors is the 2nd best player in the draft and we get the 2nd pick, do we take him?

I believe he can play SF but im sure he's better at PF kinda like a Josh Smith

I think the issue is what position he will defend. I do not think he is athletic enough to defend the 3 like Smith is. But I am not an expert here.
