Teague needs more minutes

Post#1 » by azuresou1 » Thu Nov 19, 2009 3:37 pm

His minutes are approaching Acie-territory. Now, I have no issue with him not playing much against Portland, which was a close game, and in which we were trailing for most the game, or against Boston, but comeon.

1:34 against the Knicks?
Only 14:51 against the Hornets which we blew out?
Only 2:32 yesterday against the Heat, where the game was pretty much over with 8-9 minutes left?

Sure, he hasn't been great recently, but rookies need the experience.

Woody is more concerned about locking down these wins first and foremost at the moment... I cannot say I disagree with his logic right now and it is working. Give it some time, he will get worked in little by little. I think we have a tendency to look at other rookies and say Teague could be doing that, but those other rookie point guards that are doing so well don't have 2 really good guards ahead of them on the depth chart.

I think with a little patience, we will gradually see more and more as he gets more comfortable and as Woody gets more comfortable with him in there. He shows flashes, but for the most part right now he is a mess when he's in there. At 10-2 I'm not complaining about anything right now.

No reason to play him with everyone in front of him playing so well. He was the 19th pick of the draft so he isn't someone we must hand out minutes to. If Craw goes through a bad stretch (and that's bound to happen at some point), he will get his chance.

He just has not shown enought to deserve more time on the court. He struggles on D , doesn't have much confidence to shoot from the perimeter, so he's pretty much looking to drive to the basket. His ball handling skills have to improve as well. If you pay attention, even when he's in the game, Crawford is the one with ball. Now, he's got potential, way better than Law in my opinion. He's just a rookie afraid to risk and screw things up. In the long run, I think we'll be alright with him though.
GO HAWKS.

teague shouldnt play a minute unless team is up or down .....he a joke of a pg plays like a chicken without a head.....this team has a chance to do special things they dont need rookie mistakes to get in the way......guy just gets the ball and goes full steam to the basket and usally doesnt even finish

LOL Crawford fan hard on Teague. But it's kind of true. I don't understand why he doesn't finish at the rim, when that's all he did at Wake Forest was go at the rim strong with highlight dunks.

A lot of you are missing the point. We haven't significantly cut Joe's minutes AND it's the exact same thing we did with Acie, and then we bitched that he wasn't getting any better.

Teague is playing less because Crawford is playing more. If it is up to me, I ma playing Crawford more than Teague because he is better.

i have no problem in taking away minutes from Bibby, but it is hard to argue with Woody due to the recent success

Mike Woodson is not adept at developing young talent. Marvin, AL and the Joshes got PT because there was NOONE else.

Woodson will always favor vets over rookies, and it will continue to do us a disservice in the LONG RUN.

He has a growing list of guards that have failed to improve under his tutelage. And the evidence is growing that he is not interested in doing so.

There has to be a plan in place to develop our only draft pick since 2007; otherwise we should have drafted a more seasoned, mature player (Eric Maynor, Darren Collison, Toney Douglas). Or just traded the pick altogether.

We can't draft undeveloped, raw talent if we don't have a long term plan in place to prepare them to contribute in the future.

I think that Teague does have talent to be solid pg in the NBA. He could also bring a dimension that the Hawks lack - an explosive guard that can break down the defense.

If you play him decent minutes though, it'll cost a few wins. But making him ride the pine means the Hawks lose in the long run. Teague's spirit and confidence will eventually break down and it'll be another wasted Hawks draft pick.

1. the team in 11-2. why the heck would you screw with anything now? you wouldnt unless you were (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

2. its not like teague was a lottery pick that the hawks just have to play. in fact he was just the sorry consolation prize because Minny decided to use all 12 of their picks on pg's, and he was the **** left over.

3. he has been garbage while he has been in this year.
