We are still a week or so away from the Suns having to make this decision, but with Robin Lopez returning to practice on Friday for his first full-contact workout since fracturing his foot during training camp, the Suns will soon have to decide whether it’s worth keeping Jarron Collins around.
ValleyoftheSuns’ Michael Schwartz and Tyler Lockman debate what the Suns should do with their veteran center once Lopez proves his health.

Keep Collins and drop Griffin. This is really a no brainer.

Drop Griffin, maybe Tucker too, but keep Collins. We need as many bigs as we can have.

I'd keep tucker simply because he's had a great attitude not playing much and he's tried to improve but just can't. griffin is useless, horrible player, no future, waste of a second round pick, and occupies one spot on the team.
Bye taylor.
Keep Collins easily.
The suns can't be stupid enough to cut collins and keep griffin right?...
right??
WAIT THEY WOULDN'T DO THAT **** WOULD THEY lol

Don't you guys get Kerr's plan? Griffin is here to attract his bro when he enters free agency! Gosh, it's like I'm surrounded by morons...

Yes. Yes. Yes.
As all of you have said, Suns should keep Collins and waive Griffin. No brainer.
In fact, I'd go as far to say Jarron Collins should be the PRIMARY backup big man off the bench for the center slot. He should mentor and teach Robin Lopez - who should be a practice buddy for the big men while using another year to learn and develop.
Jarron Collins is a rare product. He is an 8-year veteran of the Jerry Sloan hard-nosed school of discipline, sportsmanship, and hard work. Extremely rare of find guys like this anymore (e.g. Jarron, Battier, Hill, Millsap are probably the only ones).
Yes to Collins. Lopez is 12th man. Taylor should be waived. Period.

I think it is more complex then that, though.
They will prob waive Collins - sadly - and keep Taylor because it saves Sarver MUCH more money. Taylor makes almost nothing next to Jarron. Saving around $500,00 to $800,000 is a lot of money in this economy for the owner.

Re: Pro/Con: Should the Suns keep Collins?
Sunsman44 is right, Brother Griffin's contract is much less than the veteran minimum even if it were to be guaranteed. However I was under the impression that he was signed so we would make the roster minimum and cut him before his contract becomes guaranteed and hoping a big would be dropped.
I don't see why we shouldn't keep Collins though, he may not be KT or anything but the guys a smart veteran big, we need him.

I vote for Collins to stay. He has played well and made his minutes count. He even helped win the Houston game.
Tucker should be the first to go because he has shown that he is not NBA material.
Tucker can have a nice career in Europe

BUT WHAT ARE THE PROS/CONS!?
...no I don't have any to post right now. It's too late and I'm too tired to put that much thought into this post.

Re: Pro/Con: Should the Suns keep Collins?
Jarron Collins
Pros-
High Basketball IQ
Decent Shooting Touch (Close)
Big Frame
Smart Six Fouls
Cons-
Losing Minutes for Lopez
Lightens Sarver's Wallet (Though, this could be a Pro)

Re: Pro/Con: Should the Suns keep Collins?
He is valuable in the sense that he is a veteran with good basketball background/IQ and pretty solid post D.
I say we keep him basically as an insurance big. I'd like to see all his minutes go to RoLo, but Lopez is still a question mark as far as injury-riskiness and his level of play in general.
Collins could be a good playoff piece as well.
