Two Point Guards on the Floor Together

Post#1 » by Biff Cooper » Sun Nov 22, 2009 1:00 am

Drafting Flynn and Rubio together and Kahn's following statements about them playing together has made me notice other NBA teams that play PGs together at least occassionally. Here are some of them.

Portland - Miller, Blake, (and Roy)
Dallas - Kidd, Barea / Beaubois, (and Terry)
Milwaukee - Ridnour, Jennings
Charlotte - Augustine, Felton
Houston - Brooks, Lowry
Indiana - Ford, Watson
Phoenix - Nash, Barbosa
Toronto - Calderon, Jack

Doc Rivers had the quote the other day about small point guards being more successful in the league because of the hand checking rule change. I don't remember seeing as many teams play PGs together in the past this often. Could the handchecking rule changes also be making it more beneficial to have multiple point guards playing together on the floor?

Yes, 2 PGs together can be beneficial. The only drawback for MN is that they need to be in the right system for it to work, and the Triangle is not that system. I know they don't use it every play, but Rambis isn't gonna want two PGs on the court with the possibility of being horrible when they do have to run it.

I'm not a huge fan of running 2 undersized guards, luckily rubio is probably gonna be 6'6"? when all is said and done.

Meh? Get back to me in a few years?

When all is said and done, Flynn may very well be traded. If Rubio is the superstar PG that we hope he can be, Jonny's either going to come off the bench ala Bobby Jackson or else he's going to be on another team.

But there is no way Kahn is going to come out and say that now.

Trade Flynn and Hollins for Marc Gasol or Thabeet.
