Does this make some degree of sense?
IF we can get a good deal for Ray Allen at the deadline and IF AI is still available would it make any sense to make the trade and get AI? Could
Rondo
AI
Pierce
KG
Perk
and whomever we get in a trade win a title?
Its hard to speculate on potential Ray trades as we don't know what we could get and in my opinion Ray brings a ton to the table. So the deal would have to be a very good one, one that gives us someone good for the long term.
With AI now available it seems that it is something that needs considering.
I would think the above line up would be problematic though. AI and Rondo is a short guard combo and neither have a great outside shot. But if we got someone at say a Bosh type skill level and age, it might be worth considering.

(its funny to do that right)
The other AI thing on my mind is, how bad would it be to sign him, let him start and bring Ray off the bench? It'd be a big slap in the face to Ray and it might hurt his chances of resigning here or giving a discount but we would be increasing our talent by a lot and a team with KG, PP, RA, AI, Sheed as well as Rondo and Perk is a ton of talent.
I fully expect the board reaction to be a resounding NO to the 2 above preposals. I think deep down I think its a NO from me too unless we get a GREAT deal.
The last question I have, is if Ray, Rondo or PP go down with injury does bringing AI than make sense?

I've said it once and I'll say it again, AI should NEVER become a Celtic! He's a cancer on every team he joins. Besides, I don't think he would solve any of the issues we are having right now.

Re: Does this make some degree of sense?
I can think of a couple of issues with this... First our starting unit loses its best perimeter shooter and replaces it with another slasher / mid-range shooter. Sure, he's great at it, but Pierce and KG are both primarily mid-range players. This would really create spacing issues on offense. Second, he's too small to guard most shooting guards that we would face in the playoffs and important games (Wade, Kobe, Vince Carter, or even Anthony Parker). Third, any team you put AI on (whether he's PG or SG) he becomes the primary ball handler. By adding AI, Rondo loses the majority of his worth. He can't score off the catch, only the dribble or rebound. It's pretty clear (forget what his agent says) that AI will not be willing to accept a "role." He wants a team to accept him. Finally, the transition of Ray Allen to the bench means that the bench squad is even more perimeter oriented than it already is. The stretching of the defense is great, but the amount of threes we've been taking reminds me of the Jim O'Brien days. I don't believe that a three-point shooting team can win in today's NBA climate.

Re: Does this make some degree of sense?
The only problem I see with trading Ray is we are playing for another championship and trading him would dent that chance more than helping it. Ray is still a key component to another championship run.
As for AI, I wouldn't mind seeing him picked up. Either House or Giddens would have to go for this to happen. Before I did this I would wait to see what TA is going to give this team when he is healthy. We need energy in the second unit and TA is just the type guy to produce this.

There is no way Danny gives up House, one of only 4 true shooters on the team.
Iverson would get Lester Hudson's Active 12 roster spot.
A true sized SF who can shoot would get Giddens Active 12 spot.
House will still be in the rotation, even if Iverson and a SF that could shoot came on board.
Which is one reason Iverson might not come. He'd not only be behind Rajon,
but on many days, House as well.

Re: Does this make some degree of sense?
If we're going to straight up replace Ray Allen in a trade, it better be for some kind of younger version of himself (as a scorer, not necessarily a shooter). I'd be very weary of adding even one more declining, aging player to this team. As LanFill just said, can you imagine how badly we'd get beat defensively with Iverson at the 2 for 20-30 minutes a game if he plays next to Rondo (and I cringe to see how those two would coexist)? What happens when he has to guard Vince, Joe Johnson or any other scoring SG between 6'4" - 6"8"?
AI is as bad a fit for this team as there is out there. I'd rather go get Monta Ellis, and I'm not sure I'd even want him with his knucklehead attitude.

Re: Does this make some degree of sense?
PLEASE people. STOP with the AI talk. People think Marbury is a lockerroom problem and a cancer, well AI is the king of that. I hope NO ONE picks him up. His selfish butt doesn't need to be near a NBA team until he realizes he's not the 35 shot per game Iverson anymore. He'd be a great spark off the bench for a team with a weak bench, but he doesn't realize that.

what makes sense if he is healthy is trading ray Allen for Tmac. Now that would be great Having another guy that could create and finish own shot. Right now paul pierce is the only guy who can do that.

Re: Does this make some degree of sense?
I just don't see it, sure AI is talented and has some left but he's not a good locker room guy.
And nobody is picking him up right now because his ego is huge and he's a stat stuffer for sure but I'm willing to stand pat even @ 10-4 and a lil under athletic/older I'm not overly concerned I know a trade is coming and it will be a damn good one. AI signing is a high risk move, maybe baring an injury sure thats something to consider but we have none so not now(or I hope ever).

I'd be more inclined to make him next seasons MLE target

Re: Does this make some degree of sense?
I will admit that this team does not look sharp right now, but bringing in AI or benching Ray are two of the dumbest things I have heard. AI has already shown that he cannot handle a role as a second or third option on a team. He will whine and create problems anywhere he goes. I dont buy the fact that he had some kind of personal issue. The issue was that he wasnt going to start anytime soon for that team. As for Ray, I truly believe that when we need him to hit threes, he will hit them. He will go through cold spells like he is right now, but I still trust him. This team is struggling, but its a long season people, Be Patient!!!

Re: Does this make some degree of sense?
I'm all for trading Ray but I'm not down with the Iverson addition. I don't think any contender will touch AI. We should absolutely look at every possible trade for Ray. Danny should have already informed every GM in the league that he is open for any and all discussions.

Re: Does this make some degree of sense?
I don't see Iverson as an upgrade over RA, in fact I see him as a significant downgrade, so I really don't get the point of this. If the Celtics are at the point of abandoning winning championships (which I think is premature), then trade RA for his replacement, and play his replacement. There is no point in bringing in Iverson in that abandon the championships approach, you may as well start playing the young players more.
