Let me guess.... You've never played soccer in your life except for when you were picked last on the playground in your top ten Elementary School tournament. And "quit" soccer to play baseball which is sooooo much more exciting. Lets go watch a "shut out" that is just awesome..... right?

Or

Lets watch an NBA game that ends 101 to 101 .... tie game!! it's going in overtime, boring. who is foul out?, who is injured and can't play any more? How many yellow errrr technicals have been called? Or who has played the entire 48 minutes, how are they going to play now, can we take advantage of the weakness? Yea this is boring.... right.

or...

Shut UP! You sound stupid, and are proving it.

I'm stoked. Utah has had a real lack of big wins for as dedicated a sports town as Salt Lake really is.

Over the past 40 years the best things to happen are an ABA championship, a strange College Football Championship, a couple of cool BCS football wins, and two failed finals appearances.

It's about freaking time these things start to come together. Maybe this kind of thing will add some belief to the rest of the fans in the state and it can carry over to the NBA. I wish I could go to the next Jazz game because you know the entire soccer team will be brought out onto the floor.

Ya I dunno what is wrong with the haters out there, this is huge for Utah no matter how you put it. What a great game, I rarely watch soccer but I watched that entire game. I haven't kept up with RLS or really ever cared about them but I was freaking out watching that shootout. Great win for RLS and Utah, I am actually considering going to the airport @2 to welcome the team back home.

If nothing else, you gotta love sticking it to the MVP of the MLS along with David skunk-head Beckham. Oh ya...it's an LA team too....who doesn't love upsetting/beating any LA teams?

Maybe this will finally break the championship curse that has been over Utah for so long now?...Jazz win the NBA championship this year as the 6th seed, upset Boston in the finals in one of the greatest 7 game finals in NBA history.....

Not sure what Real "stands for" it's just a knock off of names European soccer teams have used I believe.

I agree stupid name, why can't they use a name that recognizes Salt Lake, or Utah, like,...Lakers hahaha.

Real in spanish means Royal, teams with Real in their name means a king gave them that title. Salt Lake doesnt have a king :lol:

Real = Royal, Regal

I'm guessing most RSL fans DO know what it stands for, both in the Spanish sense and as a nod to Real Madrid. RSL also has a lot of hispanic supporters in the Salt Lake area, and I'm guessing for them the term "Real" doesn't seem odd at all (aside from the fact that we have no allegiance to the King of Spain).

I didn't like the name when they announced it, but it's much less jarring to the uninitiated than something like "Utah Jazz."

Personally I was hoping for something like Wasatch FC, but no one outside of Utah would know where that team was from.

Ok, call me stupid :) but what does the FC stand for? I've been trying to figure that out for a while too. FC Dallas.... Toronto FC....?

I like Wasatch, Something like the Wasatch Abominable Snowman would've been a cool mascot/name.

FC = Football Club

Also: most football clubs around the world don't have nicknames or mascots as part of their name. They tend to acquire those nicknames/mascots as the years go by, but they don't start out official.

For example, Arsenal F.C. has the nickname "The Gunners" for reasons that should be obvious.

I just call them RSL. The Real thing is pretty dumb, but they got some friendlies with one of the biggest clubs in the world out of it.

Return to Utah Jazz
