Are the Hornets blowing up their team? Trade possibilities?
Will the Hornets blow up their team and try to dump salary? There were even Chris Paul rumors over the summer because of their financial situation. They have a few guys that would be perfect fit for the Cavs. How about something like this:
Zydrunas Ilgauskas & Delonte West for David West & James Posey
This would be an absolute GRAND SLAM for the Cavs and it would give the Hornets a ton of financial relief. Plus we could throw in picks or something else to sweeten the deal. Heck, we could even sign & trade Wally as part of the deal to take back another contract like Mo Pete just to help them out more.

I am very curious to see the numbers that Hickson is putting up by the All-Star break. I would have a very hard time passing on West, but he would kill JJ's time.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Any trade involving West to Cleveland also involves JJ to New Orleans folks...

Re: Are the Hornets blowing up their team? Trade possibilities?
No offense to David West because he's a good player esp next to Paul but I personally am not in favor of trading JJ for West. Not to mention West is almost 30...and Powe should be coming back sometime around Feb. I would not trade Hickson unless he is packaged in a bigger deal for an elite player to be LeBron's 2nd banana. David West's mid range jump shot would be very nice on this team but I would pass if it includes giving up Hickson.

I believe most of you are younger than me, but this is the same city where most of the people didnt want to trade Jaret Wright for Pedro Martinez. Its apples and oranges, but I would take David West for JJ yesterday. We have a small window unless LBJ re-signs, and I want a title right now.

Are you really a Cavs fan? You are a little too rational to be a real Cavs fan.

Re: Are the Hornets blowing up their team? Trade possibilities?
It's a very small sample but JJ's stats/scoring for the past 5 games (since he's been in the starting lineup) are better than West. LeBron has worked very hard with JJ this summer. I can't imagine the Cavs would include him in a deal for David West who is 8 years older.

Well if we have to include JJ you guys throw in next year's number one. If we are being stupid on both sides about young potential.

Glue guy, energy guy. Not the same thing as David West would be, and for what its worth, it may be a bit expensive, but the first big off the bench on a legitimate contender is a prety big role to fill. You just dont find that guy during the season. So while Andy may be a bit expensive, he is doing exactly what they paid for him to do. I guess in your opinion it would have been better to sign a vet minimum guy as our first big off the bench to keep Lebron here.

Re: Are the Hornets blowing up their team? Trade possibilities?
I don't mean to dig this thread up since it's a week old, but I was thinking about the possibility of bringing in David West and there's no question that it would have to involve J.J. Hickson going the other way.
It is stunning to me how few Cavs fans are on board with this.
Do you really think that you can just fleece a two-time All-Star power forward in the prime of his career away for chump change like a 35-year old Z and a disgruntled shooting guard with serious psychological issues? I'm not slighting Delonte West here, but how are the Hornets sure they're getting something of value with him when they're moving DAVID West?
David West is everything we want J.J. Hickson to be: a 20-ppg scorer who gets about 7-8 boards a game. At least David West can box out. And to those of you who say he's "too old"...really? He just turned 29 in August, and he's only in his seventh NBA season. He's a similar style of player to Antawn Jamison, and AJ is balling out at age 33. David West will be a high level player until age 33 or 34, especially considering the fact that he doesn't have any lingering injury issues. He had right elbow synovitis and underwent arthroscopic surgery during 06-07 but has been a two-time All-Star since then.
Yes, if J.J. blows up in five years then it would hurt to know we could have had him, but David West is a sure thing and he's a sure thing RIGHT NOW. And he'll continue to be a sure thing barring injury for the next five years, after which point he'll be 33-years old and still able to put up numbers.
You do whatever it takes to get David West in here and pair him with LeBron, Shaq, and Mo Williams. I don't want to give up Delonte West but I wouldn't mind if they did to get David West. They might even buy out Z and just keep J.J. as the prize piece of their trade to move West.
We get David West, and we're on par with the Lakers. A frontcourt of Shaq and David West with Z, and Anderson Varejao coming off the bench (and soon Leon Powe) would be right there with Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, and Lamar Odom. West would enjoy career years here as well feeding off LeBron like he feeds off CP3 right now.

I don't think moving Z, Hickson and Delonte for West is a good idea. The Cavs are already short on bigs and giving up 2 for a pretty poor rebounding tweener forward is not a good idea. Especially if we are including Delonte which I think you minimize how much he does for this team.

Wow... that is a really tough call. The season is 25% over, and the Cavaliers are starting to play better. I think I'd want to hold off on that trade until mid-December at the earliest. And, if I did do the trade, I think that I would probably send Parker,Moon and Gibson along with the 2011 1st round draft pick.
We cannot lose Redz or Z. I know Redz has his problems, but when he is on, he is ON!!!! And "Z"....we cannot just dump a player who has given his entire career to our organization. If we won the ring this year and Z wasn't part of it, there would be a little sick feeling in my gut.

That is just awful for both teams involved. It kills Cleveland's backcourt and New Orleans could get better offers elsewhere.heathmalc wrote:TheOUTLAW wrote:I don't think moving Z, Hickson and Delonte for West is a good idea. Refusing to trade Delonte or Z or JJ or whatever other player is just plain dumb. This team, as is, is not good enough to win a ring. If they have to move one of the players mentioned earlier to get better, then so be it.
